Both the Heating and Heating/Hot Water Hive Thermostats are £143.98 at Screwfix on Deal of the Week! The price shows when added to the trolley! Also add two Hive bulbs with either bayonet or Edison Screw caps and get them FREE! You can get the two free bulbs with any of the 3 Hive thermostats but the Zone version (£99) is not included in the "Deal of the week". The Free bulbs offer continues until 7th Jan. Topcashback gives just over 1% cashback.
There appears to be a small glitch at the moment as it is not discounting the bulbs in the basket but I'm sure it'll be sorted by the morning. If it's still wrong quote the deal on the website!
An UPDATE on what is going on; for Plumbfix (and maybe Electrifix) users the unit is indeed £143.98 but doesn't discount the bulbs. However the thermostat listing state you can have FREE bulbs so I'd insist on them being supplied for free! For normal shoppers you just get the "free bulbs" and not the "Deal of the Week" discount. Sorry for any confusion. I was only stating what I could see!
Buy either 4632J, 5215J or 9625K Hive Active Heating Thermostat and get any 2 FREE Hive Active LED Light bulbs, either 8674R or 4959R. Discount applied when all items are added to trolley. Promotion valid until 07/01/18
If I'm reading it right, you can sign up for £9 or £10 a month, then cancel & pay a £150 early termination fee, making the cost £159 installed?
Of course, I could be reading it wrong.

I've just ordered the second zone thermostat ( now In stock on screw fix £99 with two bulbs) and plan to take that offer with British gas out for the primary thermostat. I've read the t&c and if you cancel after 14 days all you will loose is the hive live, which is only an ongoing warranty and discount on other products

Ok, I was kind of thinking about going for the offer than cancelling after 14 days, as it seemed the cheapest method of getting one.
I'm not really sure how it compares to Nest though. Planning on using it with Echo speakers mainly I think.

Hi hoping you might be able to give me some advice as I'm pretty clueless. My thermostat has recently packed up and will no longer control my heating ,meaning I'm now having to switch on and off at the wall if I want heating or hot water ,else it's always on and the place is as you can imagine,a sauna. Am I right in thinking I could take this deal and this will be everything I need to replace my knackered 10 year old thermostat?I've been in touch with a plumber whom said he would provide and install hive for 250 but this seems a.better deal?

Good news is my thermostat is miraculously working. Even better news is I've just rang British gas to enquire about this, and when I asked about cancellation fees you can cancel within 14 days and they charge 80. I asked does that mean technically I can take it out, cancel within 14 days and only pay 90? To which he replied, yes. Worth a punt??

In the t&c it states that if you cancel within 14 days :
You’ll no longer be able to control your Hive
Active Heating remotely and you’ll lose the
additional features and benefits of Hive Live.
But it will work as a conventional thermostat
which you’ll be able to control and programme
when you’re in your home.
But if you cancel after 14 days and pay 150 it will remain fully functional

Ahh he didn't tell me that bit !I don't know how they would be able.to monitor that though? Thought it sounded too good to be true!!

No I'm not either, possibly through the hub seeing as it's on the network. But then this could be replaced. Ordered mine from British gas earlier and they're coming out on Monday, alot quicker than i thought.

Either way,it still seems a good price even at keeping it for 2 years doesn't it?

I've now ordered from British Gas last night.
£9 for the first month, then cancel the contract (after 15 days) and pay the £150 cancellation charge.
Total cost £159 installed.
Hive remains fully functional, but I lose the 10% discount on future Hive products & ongoing warranty after 12 months.
Thanks for the input. Care to comment as to why it is crap?

Hive in my opinion is better for heating stuff and more popular which is important in terms of future supports. However Nest has a wider range of products if there are other things that you may want to consider in the future. Last thing you want is to have a bunch of hubs to manage like me - hub hoarding....including Hive
In my house SmartThings (Samsung) is the most important piece of smart kit as it integrates everything except my TP Link Power plug. If you need radiator thermostats, there are a few more options out there that are cheaper (like those z-wave based ones Danfloss/Decolo/POPP) and all controllable via SmartThings.
There is a huge community on SmartThings forum that have lots of experts willing to help and share experience with. They have free smartapps and handlers that you can use, mostly free, that makes things work on SmartThings app. Still learning here.
Both Hive and Nest do have supports on SmartThings so perhaps the question is how much smarten up you want to do going forward or is it a one off thing that you want to make smarter? If the latter perhaps just go with Hive.

You can if you're in the house, you can't turn them on/off via Alexa or if you're not at home though.

Are these any good? I've got a Nest v1 at the moment which all of a sudden keeps losing sight of the boiler unit. Moving away from Apple ecosystem so don't need anything to be homekit compatible. What are my options?

Not sure this is a Deal of the Week any more; yes the bulbs are free until 7/1/2018 but the price is £179.99. Also, wouldn't you need to buy a hub for the bulbs to work? That's another £80 ...
