Brave new world and especially 1984 is happening today. BNW has us all in a world of consumption and distraction. (Just like this website)
1984s 1st 3rd of the book is rewriting history in favour of the winners. Were a population forgets its own history, while it's liberties are ground under foot
A population won't be concerned with its civil rights being take away. It won't look up from the screen long enough to even notice

1984, Brave New World, and Farenheight 451 are a sort of spiritual trilogy of a dystopian modern-day future with differing takes on the specifics.
All three regarded as among literature's best, so a 99p deal is as good a place to start as any if you're curious.
Edit: Slaughterhouse Five is also 99p, The Man In The High Castle is 99p, Contact is 99p.
