Granted you can get this sort of spec for cheaper, but ASUS make good laptops and use good components.
I have this particular model, and the slim bezel makes it seem smaller than the 17.3 inch screen suggests.
The processor is an i5 6300hq, which in my experience has never been an issue. The dedicated graphics are the powerhouse here.
There are only a few left so be quick

Horses for courses, as already mentioned this would be great for gaming on the go, but if this is for home/stationary gaming save yourself some money and get a desktop.

This looks like the 17" version of my year old gaming laptop. I got the i7 and 16gb (instead of i5 and 8gb) but no SSD. I remember that there are some heat issues with the 17" laptop to be wary of but in terms of value for money, this costs less than my 15" for a comparable spec. I reckon that most games will run almost identically on the two machines.

Omg I totally agree with Ritchie here. This is a completely unbalanced CPU/GPU combo. Rather than this crap i5/GTX 1060 combo (LOL are u kidding me ASUS?!), I would rather invest in a laptop with a better CPU and could maybe compromise on the GPU a little bit. Since this is a 17.3 inch laptop I would look for one with a 16 core i9-7960x paired with a GT 730. Sure, the GT 730 isn't quite as powerful as this 1060 here, but the CPU is decent enough for some light video editing.
Like Ritchie, I do enjoy some casual bicep flexing from time to time, so it would be nice to at least come home from the gym to enjoy some downtime on my gaming laptop, and give my guns a little bit of a rest. In fact, the i9-7960x would be perfect for enhancing the contours on my arms using MS Paint (i'm not all brawn, you know.. I HAVE ADVANCED PAINT SKILLS).
The issue is, I do suffer from social anxiety, so I'm a little hesitant to purchase such a laptop on the highstreet (OMG I hate talking to people pls send help), so I'm hoping my boi Richie could lend me a hand. I heard once that "Roadman Ritchie" walked into Maplin and slammed the manager to the floor because he tried to sell him an i5. LOL, as if Ritchie would accept that crap in 2k17.
Come on Ritchie, help a brother out and get me a sick laptop deal.

No confirmation that the screen is IPS.Should have been listed in specs if it was. Deal breaker.

Should also add, Asus deem this spec worthy of their VR Ready sticker, not that I'd ever try.
It also has a G-sync screen.
Another good thing is I won't need the central heating on over winter when this is running - nice and toasty.

i5 6300 is perfectly fine for 1080p/60fps
It's a well reviewed laptop and has been selling by the bucket load. Decent price - although this particular spec was selling for £899 back in August on A.O.com (price inc the £100 cashback) It's probably the lowest priced 1060 laptop in the UK right now.
This is a great machine for 1080p gaming

quite a few gaming videos on youtube this is overwatch but several others by same author
i have a xeon e5620 (slightly worse cpu 5000 passmark) with an rx470 (similar gpu) and everything runs at 1080p max. The only game my GPU is bottlenecked by my CPU is GTA V but I still have graphics at highest settings for 30fps
If you would use a gaming laptop regularly eg play while travelling, this is pretty good.
I have personally bought a cheaper laptop and use a desktop but that's because I mainly play games at home

Always a compromise with laptops it seems. Decent-ish GPU, crap CPU.
All a waste imo.

How is that a crap CPU? You know an i5 is the sweet spot for gaming... You don't NEED an i7 you know? And also it's a 6th gen proper quad core HQ version...
Bloody good spec for this money really!

You think an i5 is a sweet spot for gaming and on top of that old tech? Man, get out of here, if you still think an i5 is the sweet spot for gaming in 2017, then you go ahead and waste your money on crap, I don't even care.

What an idiot...
What do you expect from a laptop at this price?
My desktop with its 4670k and GTX 1070 is still giving me Ultra @ 1080p on all the latest games and that's a 4th gen i5!
So seriously, wtf are you on about? This is a solid deal at this price and spec!

Totally agree. Heck, even 144Hz is awful. I don't think I will enjoy gaming until the standard refresh rate of monitors is at least measured in GHz.

Hey Mr Drama - you do realise people on here have tried and enjoyed 60fps gaming, and that your nonsense isn't impressing anyone, right?
Of course that's probably just my social anxiety speaking. If I were as comfortable in my rippling skin as you, I'd settle for nothing less than the 1000fps achieved by the human eye in real life.

I strongly disagree. That CPU is more than capable of pairing with a 1060. It's also a 6gb non max-q GPU.
For under a grand that's a solid deal. Don't quote me but doesn't this model also have IPS @ 75hz w/ gsync?
Depending what you want it for, this is a decent deal in my opinion.
