Nice price and as above update the newest version and you’ll run a 7700k just fine and the new 8700k will only work on a z370 board so 7700k is the best you’ll get on the z170 and z270 boards, mines running at 5GHz in my MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA Board.

Is the 7700k the fastest cpu that will work with this board

Yes, but see the comments about flashing your mobo above.

Isn't Intel releasing a new socket for its next gen?

Does this work with the 7700k? Same socket different chipset? 7th gen is listed on eBuyer, but I'm lost!

You have to flash the BIOS to get most Z170 boards to be compatible with Kaby Lake. Some suppliers might do it for you for free. Or you could do it yourself if you have a spare Skylake chip lying around.

This.
Some motherboards also have a dedicated USB port and button for flashing BIOS without the need for a CPU. I think its called USB BIOS flashback on Gigabyte boards and Qflash plus on ASUS boards. Unfortunately this board doesn't have that feature...
Or maybe you know someone with a Skylake chip that won't mind you borrowing it just to flash your bios?

This motherboard does have a flashback port on it...

You can flash many of the mobo's now without the Skylake chip. giagbyte Mobo for example allow for this

Oh nice, almost went for this when deciding on my new build a few months back, it it was this price I'd have gone for it. Really nice looking as well. That said, I have a window on the side of my case, it's facing a wall at the moment, because it felt weird having it on the other side (Been there too long :D) Nice spot

Running 16GB RAM on a Gigabyte Gaming 3 AMD B350 Mobo, with an Ryzen 7 1700 and a GTX 980Ti
It wasn't where I wanted to go motherboard wise, but I'd set a budget and I wanted to keep to it. I could have waited 6 months, but hey ho. I wasn't going to go with an AMD chip, but I was intrigued by the price points/performance, so went for it.
Really chuffed with how it's performing, although there were teething issues when OC'ing the RAM, but it's been patched up in Bios updates. I do a fair bit of creative bits and music production in my spare time (nothing big, just me batting away on a guitar / Keyboard) and my old set up was a tad tired.
Mixed it up for a change and went against what people were saying and am really pleased with it. Although I'm well aware there are better combos I could have gone with, but they were beyond my set budget at the time and I NEVER go over budget :innocent: I was going to go with an i7 & Maximus set up initially.
Funny/not funny story a week after keeping to said budget... The fridge broke

I'll go where the value/performance is usually, with the odd exception. But fancied a change and don't regret it at all. It's pretty nice, although I ALWAYS want a new GPU  Doesn't matter if I am running a 21:9 monitor at 100 FPS on my favourite game... I WANT MORE. Silly I know, my refresh rate is only 75Hz as well, ha

I've got a mini itx i5-6500 rig and a 980ti, borrowed 8gb ram from a mate for a while. Waiting for some ram deals
