Wireless headphones.
Finally untangled.
After a simple one-tap setup, AirPods are automatically on and always connected. Using them is just as easy. They can sense when they're in your ears and pause when you take them out. And the AirPods experience is just as amazing whether you're listening to your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad or Mac.
Tap into Siri.
Talking to your favourite personal assistant is a cinch. Just double-tap either AirPod to activate Siri, without taking your iPhone out of your pocket.
What's a chip doing in there? A whole lot.
All the groundbreaking things AirPods can do are driven by the custom-designed Apple W1 chip. It produces extremely efficient wireless for a better connection and improved sound. And the W1 chip manages battery life so well, you can listen for 5 hours on a single charge. It's performance that's unheard of in a device this small.
Knows when you're talking.
A voice accelerometer recognises when you're speaking and works with a pair of beamforming microphones to filter out external noise and focus on the sound of your voice.
Knows when you're listening.
Optical sensors and motion accelerometers work with the W1 chip to automatically control the audio and engage the microphone, giving you the ability to use one or both AirPods. They also enable AirPods to play sound as soon as they're in your ears.
The power of 24 hour battery life.
AirPods deliver an industry-leading 5 hours of listening time on one charge. And they're made to keep up with you, thanks to a charging case that holds multiple additional charges for more than 24 hours of listening time. Need a quick charge? Just 15 minutes in the case gives you 3 hours of listening time. To check the battery, hold the AirPods next to your iPhone or ask Siri "How's the battery on my AirPods?"
Clearly superior sound.
It's great-sounding music, movies and more to your ears. AirPods provide rich, high-quality AAC audio. And when you want to be heard, dual beamforming microphones filter out background noise when you make calls or talk to Siri.
Automatic setup. Seamless switching.
AirPods connect automatically with all your Apple devices. They're simultaneously connected to your iPhone and Apple Watch, and sound switches instantly between the devices. Want to listen to your Mac or iPad? Just choose AirPods on those devices.

I really want a pair but i can't get the standard "wired" apple earpods to stay in my ears. Shame they aren't less glossy and have a bit more purchase on them to make them stay in.

I found this, especially when running... but searched on eBay, found small pieces of plastic magic that slip over the AirPod and have a little horn to tuck inside your ear; still very comfortable and don’t feel as if they’ll fall out at all

Can't argue with the price - very tempted by the saving...
People saying nothing comes close though - It is actually Apple's fault (Google are guilty of the same thing with their new Pixel Buds). The technology in these is wired to work with the iPhone and the iPhone is programmed to work well with them.
Apple needs to open up the spec on their W1 chip (the chip that enables the 'magic') or at least license it out. If they don't - there's no way anything will ever compete (which is a really bad thing for us consumers)...

Really nice piece of a hardware as long as they don't fall out of your ears (they do from one of mine...) and you are not after ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) system.
Now I'm after both of the above (and went for Sony MDR-1000X) so I gave mine to my gf, she's really happy about them.

They have been out for over a year, and nobody has come close to making a truly competing product, FACT.

The B&O E8 out this week compete pretty hard, I'd say.
ezzer72 to johnthehuman
10 Oct 17#12
Okay, they took a whole year to catch up though.
Also they are twice the price, the case holds half as much charge and I doubt they are as 'clever'.
johnthehuman to ezzer72
10 Oct 17#19
As clever? The E8 has decent sealing and Transparency Mode, which lets you hear "the outside" without taking them out.
It interacts with Siri and Google Assistant. What do the Airbuds do that is so advanced? Make you tea?
ezzer72 to johnthehuman
10 Oct 17#21
You forgot to mention the price and charge capacity with your comeback.
I'm talking about the way they automatically connect, pause the sound as soon as you remove from your ear etc.
That transparency mode sounds like typical marketing BS.
Highly unlikely you will be buying either anyway, but well done on your efforts.
johnthehuman to ezzer72
10 Oct 17#43
I've pre-ordered the E8's, they're due to arrive on Thursday  why is it unlikely I'd buy them? Hmm. Transparency mode just means they use the mics to let you hear external noise without removing them. Not BS, I'll use them quite a lot in the office.
Re: charging capacity, they both say the buds themselves get 4-5 hours on a charge, with the case adding two more charges on the E8. I'll never use them for 12 hours without being near a usb socket for a boost, so it's not really relevant to me.
daBluone to ezzer72
10 Oct 17#29
Hmm I'd dispute that with the Sony wf1000xn. Stay in your ears (don't get on with airpods), more bass, noise cancellation.
But have voted hot for price of airpods, I know a lot of people love them.
ezzer72 to daBluone
10 Oct 17#35
As before though mate, more expensive and paltry by comparison battery tech - this is a pretty important factor in a wireless product.
daBluone to ezzer72
10 Oct 17#45
OK but I'd argue better build quality, better sound quality and noise cancellation with the Sony's.
By comparison the Airpods are horrible shiney/greasy white plastic which makes them look cheap. They don't stay in my ears securely. The sound is not great imo and offer zero noise isolation.

These do not fall out of your ears. I have never used Apple's own earphones/buds as never liked the design. However, these are a good fit and i've used them running, cycling and in the gym and not had any issues at all - wearing for an hour at a time.

10 Oct 17#31
I’m not sure it would be, there is a ridiculous amount of technology miniaturised to fit into the tiny housings. The iPhone is Apple’s cash cow, and the source of around 70% of their profits, everything else is sensibly priced, when quality and performance is taken into consideration.
