Mine was lower, but they were going a bit crazy with the prices on chromebooks at the time. A few were posted as deals, but I literaly bought this with my family getting into the car to drive off on holiday, so I didn't post it as a deal.

This might be a silly question but how is this compared to a pixel c?
Also, how does the OS on these things get updated. Can this be updated to the latest chrome OS or whatever? This is all new but I'd like to replace my tablet!.

It's chrome OS which is not the same as android. However you can use Android Apps. Very quick and light

OS is updated automatically. Every now and then a little icon appears which wants you to reboot it. 10 seconds later you're rebooted and updated.

If you mean Microsoft office then the answer is no, although you can use Google docs or the Microsoft office web app
Also you might be able to install the Microsoft office android app

This was one of my biggest questions, how would I get on without full word or Excel...
It turns out pretty well. I'm a complete addict now. People send me word docs or excel spreadsheets, and even if I'm on a PC with office installed I upload it to google drive and reshare it back to people.
The colloborative possibilities are brilliant once you get your head round it.

Purchased this the other week from currys for £349 to replace my aging and very noisy (fan) toshiba chromebook.This one blows iit away not only with the full hd touch screen but the ability to use as a tablet plus access to play store(in beta mode) Battery life is very good and really cant fault it tbh.Build quality is also very high.Steal at this price

They do - I have the android apps installed and actually appear as an "open in" from Chrome OS browser - very seamless.

Do the Microsoft apps work with this? (Excel, word etc...) Can you install install unofficial/non-playstore apps on this?

The Microsoft apps will not install from the Play store. They used to but MS blocked it. It's basically an Android install - so in the same way you install apks from other sources works - i.e. change the Android setting to allow from other sources. Doing that allows MS Word to be installed i.e. grab the apk from apkmirror.com/?s=…apk - making sure its the right architecture version - this is a mediatek chip -so its an arm type software.
Lookup Toolbox for Google Play Store on the Chrome extensions store - this overlays the Play store with buttons that link to sites that host the apks for offline installation.
Also have a look at github.com/dns…ton if you want to dabble with installing Linux on these boxes if you want a bit more options - it can allow a few extra software packages to be installed.

I'm wondering if you can use Netflix, NOW TV, BT Sport and Amazon Video Android apps on this? Also Spotify Premium? Without access to all those premium streaming services it has little interest for me.

If Android apps work well on third, then should be able to. However, all those services should work through the browser anyway.

iirc I tried this in store and the keyboard was very mushy compared to for instance the Asus Chromebook Flip C100PA. That ruined the device for me. Try before you buy.

Just got mine, and iit's absolutely mint. Love using it as a giant tablet and the colour reproduction is spot on. Thank you again OP, it's a real bargain.
