Anybody remember these guys? Of course you do, they've still got that video streaming service Rakuten.tv
We had some killer deals off these guys back in the day, didn't we?
They're currently celebrating their birthday and are offering 1000 SUPER points back on at £40+ spend. Gamers, you know what I'm talking about
"It's our 1st year anniversary! To celebrate, for every purchase you make until Friday morning, you will get an extra 1,000 Super Points worth £10.00*. These are on top of the Points you'd normally receive for shopping. With 1,000 Super Points, you can get discounted shop credit from top retailers like Tesco, M&S and Zavvi; view the latest releases like Alien Covenant, Fast & Furious 8, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Get Out at Rakuten TV; make up to hours of landline or mobile calls across the world with Viber Out or buy eBooks from Rakuten Kobo."
There's a load of retailers on there (Zavvi, Currys, Game, Base and so on), so have a look, it might be worthwhile.
Oh, and if you're a new customer, you can claim an extra 500 points (£5 for signing up).

I thought they'd all but disappeared after they ruined Play.com, but they must be making a hell of a lot of money somewhere because they're the shirt sponsors for FC Barcelona this season, that won't be cheap.

On 16 November 2016, Rakuten announced a €220 million deal for global sponsorship with Spanish football club FC Barcelona

Play.com was dying after the changes to import tax for companies operating from jersey. Once the playing field was levelled with other retailers they couldn’t compete!!!

Yep this. I always wondered if Mr.Rakuten didn't do his homework and was suckered into buying a business just before it lost its competitive edge.

Hi, is it only with certain retailers? Just clicked on Sportsdirect and it says in terms & conditions Super points cannot be earned if you have purchased anything or registered with them before. Don't want to place an order then receive no points.

Does anyone know when the promotion ends?
The text at the top of the page says Friday (tomorrow) morning, but the T&Cs at the bottom say 9am on the 7th (Saturday).

"In 2016, the company's revenues totaled US$7.2 billion with operating profits of about US$347.9 million"
Don't think they are making much of that in the UK!

Would an order containing ‘pre-ordered’ items qualify for this do we think?
Searched t&cs but couldn’t see any mention.....

Oooo looking at Mario Kart on Switch for the kids for Christmas... £45 in Game and pretty much everywhere else, might give this a shot
Those muppets (play.com) would never accept any of my credit or debit cards when I tried to pay for anything, even though every other online retailer had no problems with any of my cards.

Never using Rakuten again, on two occasions my orders went missing. I emailed them dozens of times, tried to call their customer services and nothing. Both times my orders vansished and I never got my money back. Worst customer service I've ever encountered.

No real difference to top cash back or quidco really. You can only use one. I’d personally rather have the option to take cash rather than be forced to spend it at selected retailers so not for me. Thanks though.
Real pity it all changed. Gone are the days where you could get a 10% off code with 25% of the purchase price back in points, plus Quidco. I got several £400 latest gen ipads for effectively around £240 from Pixel Electronics, remember them? RIP!!!

Just to clarify, is Rakuten no longer a site where we can purchase goods etc?? Is it just a points based rewards site now??? Such a shame

Didn't see that one, but looks like it's ended. Different promo
The promotion starts on 26.09.2017 at 09:00 GMT and ends on 02.10.2017 at 09:00 GMT

No need to apologise Buzz, I was just thinking I saw this promo before. Guess Rakuten wanted a birthday bash so they decided to rebranded the earlier promo.
