I've been using it for a couple of months as a second mobile. Fantastic phone with a great screen and outstanding battery life but size and weight means it is not for the faint-hearted.

Seems like the best price for this so far. I know someone who'd love to get her hands on one, but the lack of B20 & middling cameras may be off-putting.

Yes it does was planning on getting the Mi mix 2 but the 'poor' battery compared to the original mix and to this put me off, as I was looking for a good phone with a big battery to last in between charges, this seems to fit the bill perfectly.
Good to know, but apparently only for Sd 820/821, 835 & above devices. This one has a Sd625.

I have one. Flashed Lineage and the Pixel camera. Works perfectly well.
Did the same for my wife’s Mi Mix (original) with the SD821 and it works fine there too.
Both cameras produce way better photos thanks to the Google software magic.

Good for you'll, but that's where I need to stop short unfortunately. Any flashing of a third-party rom requires bootloader unlocking, custom recovery, etc, which stops banking apps from working - especially difficult to impossible to get Barclays banking app working fine, which she needs.

Hi , I am fairly sure you don't need root to install custom roms , including lineage but you would need an unlocked boot loader and custom recovery ,as you say . In theory it should work with apps from play store , as should Android pay . But it sounds a bit of a palaver

Personally, I won't buy a new phone without band 20 support. UK and many other countries (even China) is going to shut down 2G band and relocated them for 4G.

What difference will that make?

In a few years, you will find phones with no band 20 support losing singal.

I just don't see how that relates to re-farming 2G (900&1800MHz) for 4G. Sorry, confused :unamused:

You'd expect the global version to come with all the 4g bands, wouldn't you? These Chinese phones are a minefield

Xiaomi never market these phones as "Global" - those online vendor did.
These phones were not designed or meant to sold to the UK market. Why would they include B20 which is only used by very few carriers in countries they never intend to sell the phone?

"Global Version" is Xiaomi marketing. They have a red sticker on the corner of the box which is beneath the cellophane of a factory sealed unit, so it's not something vendors have marketed themselves: The Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4A and Redmi 4X all have "Global Version" which include B20. If you check the Singapore<, Malaysia< and Indonesia< Mi sites for those 3 phones, they all show B20 in the specifications. Recently Singapore Mi site added the latest Redmi Note 5A< which again shows B20 and lately vendors started listing Redmi Note 5A Global Version< with B20 and red "Global Version" sticker hence it's commonly thought that "Global Version" = B20 support.
The Mi Max 2 and Mi 6 also appear to have a "Global Version" with the red sticker: They're also on Malaysia and Singapore Mi sites but the specifications do not show B20. However, they seem to be the only "Global Version" phones without B20.
Currently all "Global Version" Redmi series phones include B20 and so does the Mi A1.

Always go free. You'd be really unlucky to be charged, but there's no guarantee.

In the market for a new phone but think this may be too big (upgrading from S6)

If you like your S6 camera (assuming it's a Samsung Galaxy) & the quality of the photos/videos it takes, then this would've been a disappointment. As for physical handset sizes, you can compare them here: phonearena.com/pho…541
