Vodafone are starting this deal from the 12th September till the 9th October. They are still doing the FREE router fee but a £60 line connection fee may apply if you haven't already got a line into your property but free of charge if taking over a current line. £9.95 router delivery fee also applies.
Also bare in mind vodafone don't charge line rental so this is the total price!

Banging price to be fair, especially for unlimited fibre! Currently with Sky and had to negotiate hard for unlimited 38 fibre and line rental at a little over £22 pm, despite being with them for six years now.
You do realise that if you put any ISP name in front of "broadband worst company" into Google you'll get bad reviews for all of them not just Vodafone.

I had vodaphone broadband until recently, it was terrible. Thankfully they put the price up so I could leave my contract early! Their broadband fell over at least three times a day. Wireless signal is terrible. Plus you have to use their router. I've had sky, EE and now BT, never had theseissues with any of these suppliers (all on same wiring/ landline). I would never touch vodaphone broadband again.

It’s been working perfectly for me since I changed to it on 30th August. Speeds are as good as - or higher than - Plusnet who I had before.
While their router has been rock solid for me others have got the username/password from Vodafone to use their own.

My bt is about to expire and I want to leave as I'm paying £35.49 a month and to renew I've been offered £39.99 work that one out! What my question is, when I leave bt, I may go for this deal, will I need to pay for the router (delivery charge) as I have got the bt smart hub which they are all the same to a degree I presume.

Definitely shop around first and quote as many alternative cheaper deals to BT. If they can't or won't offer you a better deal then leave! There's no rewards for customer loyalty these days, so if it's not right then vote with your (virtual) feet!

Was on phone to bt today. I'm currently on the infinity 1 (which is good service speeds tbh) yet I tell them I want to keep the same but lower my costs as I've seen better prices elsewhere. They come back saying I can have the infinity 2 (which are faster speeds) for £4 more. I replied saying I'm happy with my current speeds so why would I want to pay £4 more, that's all they could stretch to apparently :joy: so I'm off on my bike looking for a new broadband provider

Anyone on Virgin media who has recently been hit with a price increase, I set about cancellation process- I set up a move to Vodafone on their £25 per month 38mb broadband free Sonos deal- two days later Virgin called and offered me £20 per month, weekend calls, 100 BM broadband (previous on 50mb) and free line rental for 12 months. Needless to say I have stayed with Virgin on this occasion, as Vodafone had no calls, slower network and I can do without the Sonos. Also Vodafone was for 18 months too.
Always found Virgin service to be decent too.

Did you ask for the 100Mbbps or did they offer it to you straight away? Someone has mentioned being offered a deal for £18/month!! I will probably be staying with Virgin now - hopefully the offer will still hold on Monday.
Hope I can cancel with Vodafone without any issues.

If I'm being honest 50Mbbps is fine for me but I hope I get the call back now!! Don't know why the cancellations team couldn't offer a similar deal as I don't like the hassle of changing provider!

On the surface it doesn't sound like a bad deal although there seems precious little information about precisely what router they supply and how good it actually is.
But on another of the Vodafone advice pages it suggested that there was just 1 USB port, where the above two links state there are 2.
Would like to get some accurate info first before jumping.

There are 2 usb ports. One on the side and a 'hidden' one on the top under a plastic cover.
Regprentice to Regprentice

Adding to this...i believe the one on the top is placed for use for '3g vodems' so when they stick up they are like an antenna. It functions as a normal usb port as well as far as i am aware. Never actually used it.
I just read a description that said the top usb port was 3g vodem compatible and the side one isnt. No idea why? Higher power?

anybody using vodafone fibre know whether it's definitely ok to use your own router?(will they give you the username & pw?)
currently on BT infinity 1 (max speed of my line is about 50mbs) using the original Openreach fibre modem + my own good quality Asus router(the Asus is router only so need to do this combo), but do get reliable connection & speed.
but been paying the high £30+ price for a while and want to move, already with vodafone for mobile so been thinking of moving fibre to them as well if they have the best prices.

thanks for the confirmation.
so is your own router a "modem+router" all in one? need to ask this because as I said before my Asus router is just a router with no modem capability, so currently I'm using my original BT Openreach modem (which originally came with the HomeHub4 when my line was first fibre activated a few years back).
can I still use the Openreach modem? or do I need to set the Vodafone router to modem only mode and then connect my Asus router to it? where do I enter the username & pw?
also does anybody know is it difficult to move the vodafone fibre broadband with you when you move house within the 18 months contract? for example if you move to a new build house do they charge you to activate the new line? and/or then start a new 18 months contract? do vodafone even allow you to move the existing fibre broadband contract to a new address?

You can use your own modem + Vodafone router or your own modem and your own router or even just your own modem and no router assuming it's the HG612 as most people have for getting a decent modem in the "old" days.
I just went on livechat looked up the certified openreach modem/router list, lied and said I had a draytek something or other and got the user/pass straight away before the fibre had been activated.
Using a huwei hg612 / Netgear R7800 on dd-wrt with no problems.
Thank you. I'll probably quote the Draytek too. Funny how BT's bundled modem/routers don't make the list...

It works for Sky Fibre too, it's just a bit of a technical minefield to get it done and requires a router that has DD-WRT or similar custom firmware on it. With Vodafone it's simply a case of a 5 minute livechat and you are done.

I've recently joined Vodafone broadband (meant to activate on 6th Sept., but didn't actually start till 8th due to an admin error or something - so 2 days without BB), and am currently regretting my decision. Moved from TalkTalk where I had no issues at all. Moved for the price (£25/month for the fibre 38, not set up charges etc, and the free Sonos Play 1).
My reason for regretting it is that the wifi signal from the router is awful. If I stand in the same room as the router (1st floor spare bedroom - that's where the phone socket is for some reason!), I get a nice 36Mbps download and 9Mbps upload. In the next room through a stud wall I get 30Mbps download and 8.5Mbps upload. If I go more than 1 room away, the download speeds drop significantly. On other side of house on same floor I get 0.5-4Mbps download and 6-7Mbps upload. Upstairs into the attic conversion I get 0.5Mbps download and 6Mbps upload. Downstairs to the utility room directly below the router's location I get 30Mbps download, 8Mbps upload. Into the main living room again through a stud wall, I get 18Mbps download and 7Mbps upload. On the other side of the hallway I get either no signal or very poor speeds on download. Bizarrely the upload speeds don't really change significantly, but the download speeds dropoff is distinct.
Going to be calling up tonight asking to use my own router, or I will be cancelling my service, as there's no point in having this service if in most of my house the broadband wifi isn't picked up and I end up using 4G.
So basically, if you are able to put your router centrally, and don't have much in the way between it and where you are likely to be when on wifi, it may be ok, otherwise expect significant speed drop offs. Their router's wifi is utter .
heavywater to kriswoj
12 Sep 17#34
Check for interference on whatever wireless channel the router is using; mine put me automatically onto channel 1 which already had four other devices on it. Changing it to channel 6 which was empty gave a huge boost in signal strength, you can check by downloading an a wifi analyser app, should show you something like this (wifi signal there is through 4 walls):
Also try changing the router into 2.4GHz only mode. It defaults to allowing 5GHz, which gives better bandwidth but worse reception at through obstacles; it sounds like that might be what yours is using with the dropoff you've described. Forcing it to use the lower frequency should bump up reception a little.
kriswoj to heavywater
12 Sep 17#40
Will do, I'll get that downloaded soon. The vodafone router app indicated how many other signals were in each of the channels, although how accurate this was I do not know. I had already changed the channel to 11 as it said this had 0 other signals in that channel. Made no difference to the signal.
Regarding the 2.4/5GHz, the device I was using for the speed tests was connected to the 2.4GHz one, and it picked up the notable drop off. Are you saying that if I disable the 5GHz, the 2.4GHz signal gets an overall power boost? ~I can't see an option for disabling the 5GHz signal, so will maybe look into if that's possible.
However, it may all be a non-issue (for me anyway) now, as after speaking to customer service there complaining about the rubbish signal, I made the suggestion of using my old TalkTalk router which I had no problems with. the guy agreed that this was a reasonable solution so gave me my username and password! So in theory, once I get it plugged back in, everything should go back to how it was when I was with TalkTalk, wifi wise anyway. If it does, and I can't see any reason why it wouldn't, I think I'll be staying with them after all!
Other points for anyone considering joining Vodafone - I've spoken to several CS agents now, and they've all been really helpful, knowledgeable and clear, which has been better than similar experiences talking to TalkTalk CS agents. However, Vodafone do appear to make more mistakes. Broadband was delayed due to an admin error. I wanted to bring my old phone number with me, but it wasn't ported across. A request to get it made on the 7th, I was told today was closed without them actually doing it, so they've reopened the request. I got an email from Vodafone welcoming me to the broadband, which stated an activation date of 30/8/17, even though it was actually 6/9/17 that I was activated. So they've not done too well in first impressions, but the manner of the CS agents has been very good.

I pay £18 per month for 110Mbps for Broadband & Weekend Calls with VIRGIN.
How?
- I actually cancelled my account with Virgin which was £42 per month for 50Mbps when my contract finished. - Opened Talktalk account for £25/month and requested to keep my number. - Virgin rang me back after 10 days when they had Talktalk request for porting number - Virgin offered me £18 per month for 12 months plus 110Mbps instead of 50Mbps. - I cancelled Talktalk transfer who then offered me £20 per month which I declined. - And now I pay Virgin £18 per month for 12 months.

Good deal - I am yet to be activated until October (by choice) to switch to Voda but I went with the previous deal of £30 but included a free Sonos One (or other gift). If you factor in that deal included free delivery on the router then it's just under £100 extra I'm paying for the One
However is it worth switching to this deal as if Voda are good and I stay with them in 18 months time will it be better on a £24 pm billing system (plus an increases by then) or a £30 one but I guess there will be other offers I'll be switching to by then anyway.
btw - I'm currently on plus.net fibre - it's been pretty ropey (were always good a previous location using ADSL) to say the least but was the only supplier who would actually activate fibre when I took out the contract but Voda is such a saving its better to terminate with plus net earlier and i hate the split 18 broadband 12 month phone rental split. designed just to keep you from jumoing ship.

I've been with them for a few months (April) - they originally said it was going to be £33 a month down to £28 because I have a mobile contract with them; then they increased it to £30 in August.
Anyway, the router is awful - really awful. I can't believe they have the cheek to be bundling these with a Sonos Play 1 considering my two Sonos Play 1's wouldn't play with their router. In fact, my TV, my Sky Q, my NAS box and so my Plex media wouldn't work properly, despite changing all of the settings over and over again, it would just give up maintaining a connection to the devices from time to time. Someone alluded above that it might have something to do with the power levels for 2.4 and 5GHz. I don't think this is necessarily the issue, I think their router doesn't have enough memory to handle multiple uPnP devices.
That being said, I phoned them for a moan and they did indeed give me my username and password and told me they've relaxed the 'you must use our router' rule so I ended up buying a reasonable TP-Link ADSL2+ Modem Router and it's been working a dream ever since. I even noticed it's increased my line speed (by the 2Mbps that it dropped when I moved from EE to Vodafone) just by swapping their router for this one.
Altogether not very happy that I'm paying more and have had to go out of my own way to alleviate a problem with their own equipment. I've another 12 months left on my contract which I'll ride out and then look at other alternatives.

BT hubs unlikely to work on Vodafone. The reason why it may work on TalkTalk ADSL is because TalkTalk don't care about whether the username is valid or not. I doubt it works with TalkTalk fibre because Talktalk use DHCP, not PPPoE commonly used by other fibre providers (except Sky who use MER)

Absolutely not worthy the hassle It's not a company, it's a joke. Bad joke. I was tempted to order their broadband a while ago. First router was not delivered on time. Apparently it was lost somewhere and never posted. Adding insult to injury, they not allowing ANY other equipment to be used, no matter how good is it. So basically I was left without connection for few days. Another pain in the bottom was communication. Average waiting Shortest time was 40 minutes, longest TWO HOURS AND TWENTY minutes. Walking in to Vodafone store won't help - they will make call to the same line with 2 hours waiting. Luckily for me I was able to use cooling off period and RUN! And they still didn't even bother to repay charge for time after cancellation which was charged upfront. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Even if it's free - still not worthy.

I switched from sky FTC service for the same service for now £25 a month Inc line rental with free gift to come offer. No issues with the swapping emails and texts keeping me informed . The only problem I had was with the WiFi connection to the mobile devices in the house the WiFi was on and connected but the internet would not connect. I have now turned the schedule option off even though there were no schedules setup . I Use 2.4 GHz only and one SSID . Tested ok for a week now with no issues Anywhere in the house. will introduce 5ghz and do some more testing .

I've never experienced as many line drops as I have with Vodafone and I used to live in South Africa.. My speeds have been brought down to apparently offer more stability, I pay for a 38mb line and get around 20mb...I would not go with them again even at that much lower price have had technicians round about 4 times and been through 2 routers
Why were you not allowed to use your own router? I thought Ofcom guidance had now made that practice illegal after all the complaints about Sky doing the same thing for years. Was your username and password for the broadband service hardcoded into the router like Sky used to do or did Vodafone refuse to give it to you? If you knew your username and password you could use your own equipment without them even knowing.

Vodafone? Never again! Signed up up with them last year for 38fibre, (already had a fibre line) they disconnected me in error and lost the line overnight (blamed cabinet shortage). So spent the next six months using a 4g dongle at my expense! Proceeded to litigation and they paid compensation eventually.

Sounds like their broadband is equally as crap as their mobile service. Which is no surprise I guess.
Anyway I'm voting this cold because it's vodafone and they are a shambles of a company.
Hopefully they will go belly under like other companies have and then their staff will wish they'd of given better service instead of being so incompetent and useless.

Switched over to Vodafone from Plusnet around a month ago. Experienced no issues whatsoever - the router has been fine despite what most people say. I work in IT and work at home most days, it handles my intensive workload without an issue.
No idea what people are doing to run into so many issues, unless they're mining for bitcoin or running a home data centre???

i NEVER post, however, I respect this website and all of its users so much that I need to warn you against these COWBOYS!!!
I have had nothing but problems.
It started off with awful speeds with both WiFi and hardwired. All I got in response was 'well its saying 68mgb our end so it must be all of your equipment'.... After finally losing patience I decided to leave within my 30 day cooling off period. They advised me to simply move to another provider and it will sort itself out. HOWEVER, they then advised BT to cease my line, which they admitted was a mistake, and that it would be rectified. The problem is I was unable to transfer to another provider. 4 weeks later....yes 4 weeks and countless phone calls including a number of 2 hours on-hold phone calls I have it sorted. Literally the worst experience ever. I lodged a complaint with Vodafone and one of their very own staff admitted to me that since the price reduction and the free gift giveaway they have doubled there number of users in less than a week and they don't have the infrastructure to cope. Activations are running in delay and things are only going to get worse. He said 'Mate I'm getting out of here before it spirals out of control'.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Lucky you, seriously, lucky.. I contacted them regarding the price, they basically told me to leave if I didn't like it. This is what I did, even their better offer was no-where near £20 per month for BB. (I think they offered me £35 a month for 100mb). I switched to Vodaphone, was installed yesterday, but it wasn't working this morning. I gave them a ring, got through in a minute or two, they apologised, enabled the line, and hopefully it will be working when I get home (I had to shoot off to work). So, going to give them the benefit of the doubt, and see what the service is like.

Thought plusnet only supplied the Hub One which looks like the HH5? That is what they offered me....ended up cancelling as they sneaked in a £7.49 extra charge per month due to being connected to a 'Market 1' exchange, idiots knew that as was on the phone to them the day before and was given the price, then when questioned it, said doesn't matter it will discount the 7.49 off....but it didn't.

If you are moving from BT to Vodafone, there are 2 things to bear in mind: 1. BT may keep hold of your phone number (happened to me, not too bother as hardly use the number) 2. Make sure your switch date is at least a day after your contract ends other wise you will be charged for part cost of router (you will get refunded any part days you have not used which will be cheaper than the £50 I got charged for jumping ship a few days before the end of my 12 month contract). You have been warned

No, Vodafone is not allowing any other device than their own Huawei router. While is quite good, you have no control over it whatsoever. I spent half hour creating configuration at least little bit closer to what I have on my own router an when it was working, they sent firmware update, which also wiped all configuration changes I made. The best thing you can do with it (assuming you want something more than standard router from your ISP) is to use trick with DMZ, which effectively is as close to pure modem mode as possible. You still need to keep two bulky devices though (Vodafone Huawei router has triple size of standard Openreach VDSL modem)
There is more: I was aware that they forcing users to use their router. But they failed to deliver it on time. Previous provider (BT) switched off my access right on time. So I was without any internet connection. I called tam and after only 2 hours waiting I was able to speak to somebody. Asked for username and password, the answer of course was "no" Then explained: "im not asking for it. I'm giving you a chance to behave like proper responsible business". The answer was still No So I cancelled my order. Luckily for me there was cooling off period

Lucky you! Wish you the best, but you just cannot assume you will never have any issues with them.Keep in mind Vodafone is most complained mobile network in UK and their broadband system is completely not ready to be used. Another example: access to your online account. I have no Vodafone number (thanks God). My only number in Vodafone was my landline. You need a password sent by text to log on to your online account and check your charges, dowload invoices, use extra software etc. If you have no mobile number, they use text2speech service - working just fine. Apart from tiny, tiny problem: it usually takes up to 30 minutes to receive a call. Password is valid only 10 minutes. As result I was NEVER able to access my Vodafone Online account. Never. Still shocked how it's possible OFCOM is allowing to provide services with such quality..

Personal opinion, I am looking forward to my contact end time in Feb 18. Internet drops out regularly. I live in a flat (not even a house) and there is no reason whey it should drop that frequently. Internet is not so fast either. I was with sky broadband before and perhaps will go back to that in Feb/ March next year when the contract ends. They increased prices a few months back from £23 to £25. I received an email when I was on holiday allowing me to exit the contract. Unfortunately I was outside the country and missed the boat. I suggest you look elsewhere for a broadband supplier. But again, this is a personal opinion.

20 Sep 17#155
Probably not. From a quick google search it appears to be mainly server side. In layman's terms, this basically means they do most the work on their computers, not on yours. Your upload speed probably wouldn't effect it. Even if it was uploaded on your PC, most of it would be very small files, which wouldn't hinder the upload speed.
However, uploading pictures, videos etc would be miles quicker. I do a lot of editing and website stuff, so I often have to upload a lot of files, some of which are massive, and that is really dependent on upload speed.

One extra Voda make you pay for is Caller Display. Included free with most ISPs, Voda charge you £1 per month extra. Which they conceal on an obscure page not linked to anywhere in their sign-up, right through to registration (which is as far as we've gone so far).

There's every chance it was all down to their "Connect" router. I moved to them earlier this year and had nothing but trouble. The memory usage just built up from 30% to 90% before it becomes unresponsive then a few minutes later it reboots (presumably when memory usage hit 100%). It seems to be unable to handle more than a few wired devices and a couple of wi-fi devices at once. Customer service had long wait times and were no help, occasionally accepting the fault but being unable to do anything about it but often asking me to perform irrelevant tests first: change the wi-fi channel (sure, that'll stop it power-cycling), connect it to the master port inside the BT box. They finally caved in and allowed users to use their own router by issuing the PPOE username and password but by then they'd announced the price rise which gave me an excuse to switch back to Plusnet (the £85 cashback brought the price down to around Vodafones good price).
It's been a few months since I left, so firmware may have resolved those issues. If it hasn't, it might be worth asking if the router/delivery fee be waived and for them not to send it out and just use your own, but they would be unlikely to investigate any problems without their router connected.

I've been having serious issues with the FTTC cabinet in my road and Vodafone CS have been absolutely superb. I think a lot of the comments badmouthing them are to do with previous experiences (a lot of which up until moving to Vodafone broadband i'd have agreed with). Their reputation is certainly an unfair one by today's standards. They phoned back when they said they would, they kept me updated and they even gave £60 credit for the issues that were clearly the fault of the BTOpenReach network. Now my "Up to 76mbps" line yields a rock solid 75.5mbps regardless of whether it's peak time or not.
The only problem with deals like this is that now i'm worried they'll oversubscribe and my now perfectly working broadband service will suffer as a result!
*ahem* what I meant to say was: Boo, hissss vodafone are rubbish! Steer clear. (that should just about do it?)

I don't know if it's true you're paying a premium for Zen.. more that other ISPs are 'cut price' and trying to make a similar profit, so unable to deliver a fair quality service.
In my experience (mostly rural, so I don't have bandwidth contention issues eg throttling) if a line is connected and working and stable you're usually home and dry. It's if you run into an issue, that's when things unravel.
I can't afford Zen and am with TalkTalk.. when the line is running it's fine generally. However when I moved, the ADSL light blinked for 10 weeks after the 'go live' date. I spent countless hours to people in foreign call centres most of whom didn't really give a damn, as evidenced by their outright lies and hanging up on me. Only got sorted when I escalated a complaint to a senior manager.
One obvious problem is their systems for communicating between departments are poor, same goes for scheduling things properly and passing information to engineers. You can expect to be put on hold for any amount of time then find you have to explain the basic problem again, to somebody who can't follow english very well, and more than likely they'll just read the same "reboot router" type script and round and round in circle you go.. You're just another undervalued customer to a budget ISP and these standards aren't going to change in a hurry.
I've just switched to fibre with them, and it did go live on the due date. However they failed to connect my landline or delivered the guaranteed upload speed. It's not a surprise unfortunately.
My friend who uses Zen has none of these issues..

I didn't want to like them and read all the horror stories, main concern was the reception. Would It be better than EE,(hard to be worse in my surroundings) they offered a 30 day trial and it was clear they worked far better for me.

Looking for the answer to this too .. i gave my 30 days notice to Virgin about 5 days ago. No call back. How would they know if i sign up to another provider? Plus, other providers could have activation + installation fees to pay up front. So i don't see how that could be refunded if Virgin make me an offer to stay

Just started with Vodafone, the supplied router for me is fine . Just saying, don't go out and buy a new router because you hear the supplied router is rubbish. Maybe give it a chance first, if it isn't what you need, then sure, pop out and get something more suitable.
**Maybe I should add, the router is smack bang in the centre of my house (old water tank cupboard above stairs) so for me Wi-Fi coverage is never really a problem,. Also, got Cat5e around the house, which obviously makes a big difference

ok, just spoke to sky broadband team.
Got offered line rental free for 12 months (18.99)
I asked for an account credit of £30 to make the sky fibre + £20 a month and she went away and came back and said no, so I said fine, please continue with my cancellation.
In getting a deal i said go ahead with my cancellation because worst case I go with: 1- Vodafone who are doing upto 76mbps for £24 p/m. 2- BT infinity 1 (52mbps) at £31.99 p/m with £170 cash back works out to £20.36.
Hope this helps someone.

Yeah it was Vodafone. Nobody made that clear to me although they'd already charged me a £60 activation fee so even if I was entitled to leave my contract, it would've been £90 for a months broadband out of principle.
Also there's another "service" that I was automatically subscribed to for "free" but kicks in a paid subscription after the trial period of £40 a year.

I got that deal but on a 24 month contract, which I don't have an issue with, saves me having to re-negotiate for another 6 months. They also said, if you pay line rental up front, which I usually do, I'll save a further £3.50 a month, so that makes it £23 a month, snatched their hands off!

Gotta love Virgin - rang up to cancel, and the deal retentions offered me was ........ exactly the same as what my new increased cost would be from Nov 1 (so more than I'm paying even today), but with the latest router thrown in! Well done. Needless to say I didn't accept and kicked on with the cancellation. Let's see if I get a call in the next few days.

I cancelled on the 20th, was offered £27 a month with three months free. Except I'm already paying £25 for 50mb broadband only.
I told them it's more about the poor customer service, like having three months with degraded service due to a fault in the area. Then having to complain to get offered a month free. Then eventually get three months free. Plus other bad experiences as well.
Someone called back yesterday and offered me the same deal, that it averages out at £20 a month. Told them I'm leaving because of the poor customer service, etc. They offered me six months free on an 18 month contract.
Going with the Vodafone deal today, just wish I saw the other deal earlier.
I didnt go with Vodafone yesterday because the guy on the phone lied to me and said we wont ever put the price up mid contract, not even an rpi increase, what a lie, then the 2nd call the woman said our line is the same as virgins so its faster than BTs, at that point id heard enough, im now signed up with BT, just waiting for Virgin to turn off now, another joke of a company.

I did sign up for this but cancelled it and stayed with BT. They offered me my current infinity deal for £9 a month plus line rental. It's a little more than the £24 for Vodafone but it's a 2 year deal and i can save a bit by paying 12 months Line rental. I also then get a £6 discount on my wife's BT mobile so it does make sense to stay.

Have tried all the ones I have. I wonder if it's because of the way they use flat numbers, it's caused me some issues before. My biggest worry is if they've run a credit check all the times I tried, and it's hit my credit record.

anewman
28 Sep 17#227
Pay line rental in advance with Plusnet (12 month contract) 38mb = £22.49 78mb = £27.49 _________________________________________________ Cost for 12 months 38mb = £229.88 after £40 Topcashback ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vodafone (18 month contract) 38mb = £20 78mb = £25 (if you can actually order it). __________________________________________________ Cost for 12 months 38mb = £220 after £20 Topcashback (which I couldn't get as my order won't go through online). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the cashback has made my mind up. It also seems Plusnet are more keen to allow you to use your own equipment, which at one point Vodafone wouldn't give the password for.

I've had no end of trouble with Vodafone. My go live date was pushed back three times without any notification from Vodafone. Had to wait over an hour each time just to be told OpenReach couldn't complete the work in time so re-scheduled. Once it finally went live, the connection was terrible, only getting just over 1mbps. After several more hours on the phone I managed to get them to send Openreach to fix the problem. Once it was all up and running I was able to get the full 38mbps. However, this only lasted a couple of days before the router started playing up, constantly dropping the wifi connection. I tried splitting the SSID and making sure the signal was on an isolated channel. I even tried using a Netgear router connected via cross-over cable to the Voda box. The wifi connection stabilized but the internet connection still continues to go down. Vodafone customer services are abysmal. I'm still within my first month so looking for an alternative... the Plusnet deal looks the most tempting.

While their router has been rock solid for me others have got the username/password from Vodafone to use their own.

But on another of the Vodafone advice pages it suggested that there was just 1 USB port, where the above two links state there are 2.
Would like to get some accurate info first before jumping.
I just read a description that said the top usb port was 3g vodem compatible and the side one isnt. No idea why? Higher power?
currently on BT infinity 1 (max speed of my line is about 50mbs) using the original Openreach fibre modem + my own good quality Asus router(the Asus is router only so need to do this combo), but do get reliable connection & speed.
but been paying the high £30+ price for a while and want to move, already with vodafone for mobile so been thinking of moving fibre to them as well if they have the best prices.
so is your own router a "modem+router" all in one? need to ask this because as I said before my Asus router is just a router with no modem capability, so currently I'm using my original BT Openreach modem (which originally came with the HomeHub4 when my line was first fibre activated a few years back).
can I still use the Openreach modem? or do I need to set the Vodafone router to modem only mode and then connect my Asus router to it? where do I enter the username & pw?
also does anybody know is it difficult to move the vodafone fibre broadband with you when you move house within the 18 months contract? for example if you move to a new build house do they charge you to activate the new line? and/or then start a new 18 months contract? do vodafone even allow you to move the existing fibre broadband contract to a new address?
I just went on livechat looked up the certified openreach modem/router list, lied and said I had a draytek something or other and got the user/pass straight away before the fibre had been activated.
Using a huwei hg612 / Netgear R7800 on dd-wrt with no problems.
I said I had a Draytek Vigor 2860 when asked.
With Vodafone it's simply a case of a 5 minute livechat and you are done.
Their router's wifi is utter
Also try changing the router into 2.4GHz only mode. It defaults to allowing 5GHz, which gives better bandwidth but worse reception at through obstacles; it sounds like that might be what yours is using with the dropoff you've described. Forcing it to use the lower frequency should bump up reception a little.
How?
- I actually cancelled my account with Virgin which was £42 per month for 50Mbps when my contract finished.
- Opened Talktalk account for £25/month and requested to keep my number.
- Virgin rang me back after 10 days when they had Talktalk request for porting number
- Virgin offered me £18 per month for 12 months plus 110Mbps instead of 50Mbps.
- I cancelled Talktalk transfer who then offered me £20 per month which I declined.
- And now I pay Virgin £18 per month for 12 months.
I'm with Plusnet too, although the service has been faultless, I'm leaving them as my deal ran out and I was paying £35.46 overall. My line rental (saver) is paid until 25th October, but I'm switching on 26th September. I knew they wouldn't do a retention deal and needed to get away from that separate phone contract.
I though they had actually stopped the 18 month broadband packages but just checked and see they are still the norm.
£6 X 18 = £108
A Sonos Play 1 brand new sealed with receipt can easily be sold for £155 on a forum or £160 on eBay as the prices have gone up to RRP £199 recently.
Even the Vodafone router has been rock solid.
If you Google you will find that BT, Sky and most of the others are considered rubbish by many people.
I have had a LOT more trouble with Plusnet (getting a refund - constant 15+ minute phone queues) than with Vodafone
zen.co.uk/the…eal
Great deal.
Hmmm i gave my notice to cancel with virgin and its saying my line is stopped ???
Perhaps they have revised it!
ps I recall my router loaded new firmware almost immediately - could this have helped
Sky use, AFAIK, a slightly non standard login process - so it won’t work with them - but I have not seem anyone comment that Vodafone are anything but standard.
The main reason I'd like to keep it is all the port forwarding rules and static IPs I have set up!
The reason why it may work on TalkTalk ADSL is because TalkTalk don't care about whether the username is valid or not. I doubt it works with TalkTalk fibre because Talktalk use DHCP, not PPPoE commonly used by other fibre providers (except Sky who use MER)
When you try to save the PPPoE username in the home hub/smart hub, it must be of the format [email protected]btinternet.com, [email protected]plusdsl.net. The hub will reject any realms (eg. btinternet.com) not owned/used by BT group.
Thanks for mentioning it here, otherwise I would never have asked for it.
BT do impose the use of the home hub, so not going there.
Hot from me.
Signed up up with them last year for 38fibre, (already had a fibre line) they disconnected me in error and lost the line overnight (blamed cabinet shortage). So spent the next six months using a 4g dongle at my expense!
Proceeded to litigation and they paid compensation eventually.
Anyway I'm voting this cold because it's vodafone and they are a shambles of a company.
Hopefully they will go belly under like other companies have and then their staff will wish they'd of given better service instead of being so incompetent and useless.
No idea what people are doing to run into so many issues, unless they're mining for bitcoin or running a home data centre???
If you like buffering whilst watching Netflix or walking through walls whilst playing call of duty online - this is for you:)
Far better than EE at home and most locations when on my travels.
Anyone know if any of the other providers are screwing for this extra charge
He offered me 100mb for £37 which I declined.
So I either stay where with virgin or go for this in the hope virgin retentions ring me and offer me a better price to stay
1. BT may keep hold of your phone number (happened to me, not too bother as hardly use the number)
2. Make sure your switch date is at least a day after your contract ends other wise you will be charged for part cost of router (you will get refunded any part days you have not used which will be cheaper than the £50 I got charged for jumping ship a few days before the end of my 12 month contract).
You have been warned
The best thing you can do with it (assuming you want something more than standard router from your ISP) is to use trick with DMZ, which effectively is as close to pure modem mode as possible. You still need to keep two bulky devices though (Vodafone Huawei router has triple size of standard Openreach VDSL modem)
There is more: I was aware that they forcing users to use their router. But they failed to deliver it on time. Previous provider (BT) switched off my access right on time. So I was without any internet connection. I called tam and after only 2 hours waiting I was able to speak to somebody. Asked for username and password, the answer of course was "no"
Then explained: "im not asking for it. I'm giving you a chance to behave like proper responsible business". The answer was still No
So I cancelled my order. Luckily for me there was cooling off period
They increased prices a few months back from £23 to £25. I received an email when I was on holiday allowing me to exit the contract. Unfortunately I was outside the country and missed the boat. I suggest you look elsewhere for a broadband supplier. But again, this is a personal opinion.
I have had FAR more problems with Plusnet getting a refund than I have ever had with Vodafone.
Their router allows at least as much control as BT do with their HomeHub series! More I think
Typical Vodafone paragraph 22
Although the 4x upload speed is tempting (Virgin have rubbish upload speeds and I do a lot of content creation), and they seem to have a better hub as well. Probably will stick.
I'm due to switch next week, anyone know if I'd be able to cancel if they offered me a deal now?
If I initiate this request will Virgin contact me? Preferably I'd rather stay as moving is a hassle.
Even if you don't get many landline calls, they can be important ones, so for us the real price is £21pm.
It's been a few months since I left, so firmware may have resolved those issues. If it hasn't, it might be worth asking if the router/delivery fee be waived and for them not to send it out and just use your own, but they would be unlikely to investigate any problems without their router connected.
Shady as hell!
Perhaps your home setup doesn't trigger the fault, I don't know if it was ever determined what the cause was (I recall UPNP being mooted as a potential culprit. Many people will be fine, so it might be worth taking the risk, especially as you can leave in the cooling-off period.
Still to high as I'm currently paying 19.50 for 38mbps fibre. Deal ends next month.
Best I got was 10 fibre and 4 off line rental which made monthly cost 25. This is still high compared to some of the deals out there. Put in my cancellation request.
Hoping for a call from sky retentions offering something better.
If not I'm off to Vodafone or bt deals. I've got til 8th october before I'm cut off.
Btw reading on here some folk are getting t.v. and fibre for that 25 price...
No matter, I will check rates/offers after 18 months
My experiences with BT, EE and Plusnet have been far more frustrating.
For me at least when Vodafone got things wrong there was £75 compensation if you like, more than can be said for others in my personal experience.
Just been reading through Vodafone's forums about obtaining PPOE user/pass for alternate routers. Apparently they used to not provide these, but now do provided you use a BT Openreach approved router.
I called Plusnet this morning, they matched this deal with cashback, provided I took out a 24 month contract, which I was happy to do as the service has been faultless for the last 4 years. I won't lose my line rental saver either which is paid up to November, which I would have done if I'd have switched, and can keep my HH5, which works very well for my line.
Thanks for the heads up guys!
The only problem with deals like this is that now i'm worried they'll oversubscribe and my now perfectly working broadband service will suffer as a result!
*ahem* what I meant to say was: Boo, hissss vodafone are rubbish! Steer clear. (that should just about do it?)
Saying that, I'm in a little village in the **** end of nowhere and we have FTTC available. A good job really as the local exchange is miles away, i'd be lucky to get 2mbps on standard ADSL2+
they also said my line could cost a grand to fit,
wikidevi.com/wik…500
Waiting on landlord of a new flat I'm moving into to provide the landline number, or to see if they're bothered about it being chnaged. Will let you know how I get on
In my experience (mostly rural, so I don't have bandwidth contention issues eg throttling) if a line is connected and working and stable you're usually home and dry.
**Maybe I should add, the router is smack bang in the centre of my house (old water tank cupboard above stairs) so for me Wi-Fi coverage is never really a problem,. Also, got Cat5e around the house, which obviously makes a big difference
Got offered line rental free for 12 months (18.99)
They have 3 types fo fibre now:
1- sky fibre- upto 38mbps- £20 p/m
2- sky fibre +- upto 55mbps- £22.50 p/m
3- sky fibre pro- upto 76mbps £30.00 p/m
I asked for an account credit of £30 to make the sky fibre + £20 a month and she went away and came back and said no, so I said fine, please continue with my cancellation.
In getting a deal i said go ahead with my cancellation because worst case I go with:
1- Vodafone who are doing upto 76mbps for £24 p/m.
2- BT infinity 1 (52mbps) at £31.99 p/m with £170 cash back works out to £20.36.
Hope this helps someone.
Also there's another "service" that I was automatically subscribed to for "free" but kicks in a paid subscription after the trial period of £40 a year.
Also, again unlike mobile, the price on this Broadband deal is fixed for 18 months
Going with the Vodafone deal today, just wish I saw the other deal earlier.
vodafone.co.uk/bro…and
My only reservation is that Vodafone is funny but people using their only modem routers but theirs, the connect, does not have a modem only mode.
Sorry there has been error(s)
We haven't been able to process your order
We haven't taken a payment and your order hasn't been placed yet. Please try again ? or call us on 08080 034 515 free from a landline or mobile, or on 191 free from a Vodafone mobile.
I suspect if I phone up to order I wouldn't get this offer - considering going with Plusnet instead as they're the next cheapest.
Plusnet is 1p cheaper than Vodafone's usual price, and with a 12 month contract. plus.net/hom…re/ I think you can also pay line rental in advance with Plus net for a £30 discount.
At this point I'm pretty fed up and will probably go with PlusNet too.
38mb = £22.49 78mb = £27.49
_________________________________________________
Cost for 12 months 38mb = £229.88 after £40 Topcashback
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pay monthly with Plusnet (12 month contract)
38mb = £24.99 78mb = £29.99
Vodafone (18 month contract)
38mb = £20 78mb = £25 (if you can actually order it).

Cost for 12 months 38mb = £220 after £20 Topcashback (which I couldn't get as my order won't go through online).

I think the cashback has made my mind up. It also seems Plusnet are more keen to allow you to use your own equipment, which at one point Vodafone wouldn't give the password for.
Vodafone customer services are abysmal. I'm still within my first month so looking for an alternative... the Plusnet deal looks the most tempting.
You're welcome to put in my username as referral :relaxed:
