Decent price for a branded 8 port gigabit switch. Not metal but at least both the power cable and network sockets are all at the back. Amazon so best with Prime or if buying other bits to push it over the £20 super saver threshold.

It's not designed to improve your connection but to allow one ethernet connection to be shared between up to eight other devices. Think of it as a device that splits the signal.
P.S. I posted a link to this product on another thread for a network switch before this one got posted, guess I should have started a new deal thread myself:
I have bought 2 of these connected to my powerline adapter to share to tv etc Look at this on eBay ebay.co.uk/itm…858

Those are only 100 Mb/s (not Gigabit), that's about the going rate for those. Absolutely fine if that's all you need but transferring anything remotely large is painful over 100 Mb/s.

I've had one of these and the smaller 5-port version since August 2015 (£17.99 at the time) and they just sit there and work. What more can you ask of a bit of kit?
Under £14? Bargain!
The 5-PortTP-LINK TL-SG1005D is only £12.47, which is also a bargain in itself.
These IMHO are are more "aesthetically pleasing" than the metal versions as they have the power supply and ethernet ports on the same side (the metal versions are on opposite sides).
