Last chance to get this deal - an easy £5 for topping up £20 using a printed barcode at your local Paypoint. No apologies for repeating this deal as first posting was 15th August and it will have slipped from general awareness

Just used it this morning on the £19.99 Oral-B toothbrush!

I went to two local paypoints (one was Asda) and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about and kept pointing at the gift cards. Eventually contacted Amazon who gave me £5 for topping up £20

If you add £20 and receive the £5 credit, can you then buy a £25 Amazon giftcard and pass it on to someone else?

well - the heat doesn't matter a jot to me & I doubt whether it does to the Aug 15th OP or to many others here who regularly post deals, otherwise we'd be a bit more circumspect about only posting certain deals...

The heat doesnt matter to many people, but youve failed to miss the point. The last time this was posted (which was only last month) hit over 2000 degrees, which meant it was probaly posted on facebook/twitter/watsapp.

Would have been nice just to credit the original poster as like i said, this isnt a deal you hAve found yourself.

23 Sep 17 #14
but I did find it by myself - I was away on my hols on 15th Aug & never saw that deal - this morning I used it for the first time on my daughter's a/c and just thought: I wonder if that's been posted on HUKD? so did a search - hey presto it was eons ago - at any rate over a month ago - so fair game to remind people of it - OP doesn't need a credit as they weren't involved in this process

I generally check for duplicates before posting, same as I saw the Marriage Allowance story in the Independent this morning, thought ye gods that's a lot of money going unclaimed - £615 per couple for some - & did a check, saw it had been posted in Sept so just added a note to the Independent story instead of repeat posting

I’ve been in a few local Shops with Paypoint tills. None of them were able to scan the barcode on my phone and none of them knew anything about the Amazon Top Up scheme.
REMUS77
23 Sep 17 #19
I also had a problem topping up in store. as somebody else pointed out I did ask one of the shop assistants to go to paypoint menu and look for Amazon top up section .eventually after few tries they managed to offer me a receipt with a code .The voucher on my mobile phone would not scan ,no matter how many times they tried in different locations. I entered on Amazon website and the code was accepted and the £5 were added to my account within minutes.
Not an easy way to get the 5 pounds.
luvsadealdealdeal to REMUS77
23 Sep 17 #22
but both you and Smag are expecting the store to be able to scan your mobile phone barcode

I printed it off and it scanned fine & transaction processed in 20 seconds

I don't think the Paypoint scanners are set up to (easily) scan phone barcodes, that's all - I guess all other barcodes that use Paypoint are printed, eg bills & council tax - so do yourself a favour and print it at home, would be my advice

otherwise you're blaming the system when YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!

I use my local Sainsbury's Local and no fees to pay.
I originally started to pay my Council Tax there as I get 1% back from Amex, paying with their credit card. It all helps going towards the Amex £25 fee.

Well I'd just like to add my thanks. Activated the promo fiver on my prime a/c when it was first posted. This post made me remember about an a/c the OH has but never uses as it's not prime. Thought I might as well top up the a/c with £20 to get this. I'm sure, with the impending annual spendfest drawing ever nearer, we can use it up with a non-urgent buy.

Definitely worthy of the repost! Heat added

If they can't scan your phone, just ask them for an Amazon top up via the PayPoint machine. It's on all of them but many don't realise as it's a new thing. They'll print off a code for you and then just get onto Amazon chat to get your free £5 added if it doesn't automatically.

Credit really not needed, Get off his/her back!

Im confused - even though Ive just watched the video on how its supposed to work!!
I get the bit where you top up a giftcard - and then I guess you use the code on that giftcard when at the checkout page on the website, but why??
Surely its a lot easier just to pay via debit card instead of all the running around converting one form of credit to another

What exactly is the deal. I understand the £5 credit.

But what happens with the £20 paid in store? Does it just appear on your online account, to spend on Amazon.co.uk?
cheekster
23 Sep 17 #57
Promotional credits such as this one, once applied to your Amazon account, will only show up when you are at the checkout and will be automatically deducted before any balance due is taken from your debit/credit card. Not ideal as until you add items to your basket and try checking out, there is no way of knowing if the promotional credit has successfully been applied.

Gift card balances are different and it is possible to view your current balance when signed into your account.

To find your nearest paypoint stores: paypoint.com/en-…tor it's a bit :poop: though, for example, if you type in a name of your town, then it will show you 1 in your town and 4 in the neighboring towns, if you zoom in on your town, still it will show you only 1 store. Same if you type in your post code it will show 5 nearest you, if you zoom out, it will still show those 5, so workaround I do is, I go on google maps, check post code of further roads and type that in so I get 5 new results. Good luck! So far I have not succeeded on getting my free fiver. :disappointed:

Never seen such a crazy and complex system: if I well understood, first, you have to find a pay point store. Second, you have to top up your amazon account in the local store by giving money. Then you can spend your money online on amazon.co.uk
This sounds like a total rubbish process to me, like we are walking on the head.
5 pounds for all these efforts... why not but really crazy!

Yes, a basic Amex would be fine, or any other card that gives cashback.
I've got the Amex Platinum and pay £25 per year. The cashback used to be 1.25%, but has dropped to 1% now. I'm actually thinking of downgrading and probably will for the start of the next tax year. The Amex promotions / offers haven't been as good lately and oddly even better on my other basic Amex card! Council tax payments via Paypal covers approximately 50% of my Amex annual card fee. I'm not a massive spender now and to be honest, I only receive around £60 cashback annually and Amex take £25 of that. I use Amex for the Shop Small events and do well, hence not minding paying the £25 fee.

I printed the paper from Amazon with all the details and they looked at it, being very confused. They said they cannot do anything like that, only collect or receive parcel for / from Amazon. They had no clue about gift cards, top-up, anything like that. And I have been in 2 different shops with PayPoint.

I contacted PayPoint and see what they have to say about this.
luvsadealdealdeal
26 Sep 17 #111
to be honest, souynds like you confused them

you don't need to get them to read the page or anything

if they are a PayPoint outlet, they will know all about paying bills by scanning a barcode & accepting your payment in cash or by credit card

next time just say: 'please put £20 on my account with PayPoint, please'? & give them the barcode to scan
andreialisen
26 Sep 17 #112
I know that I do not have to, but I have done that after I told them that I want to top-up my Amazon account and they said that is not possible. I do not know how PayPoint works and what other services they have, hence why I told them about Amazon top-up / gift card. They could clearly see that the paper has a barcode, but that did not ring any bells in their minds.

27 Sep 17 #117
it's not just that - by promoting this deal Amazon scores in several ways

- it's a great loyalty scheme, we're all dead happy to get a free fiver, thanks kind old Amazon my new best mate
- we have given a chunk of cash to Amazon (to look after on our behalf) - improves their cashflow
- we'll instinctively look first to Amazon next time we want to buy something, as they are holding our cash
- some people will inevitably forget to use the £5 before it expires, so for them, Amazon have got their casdh & future business for nothing

@ ashishdaa - just once per a/c

No. Don't know. If you squint your eyes, it looks like a Lego man wearing a shirt and trousers. Complete with big Ben tie.

it has to be a paypoint terminal, search google for paypoint asda, it will explain, you have to pay with cash , no credit/debit cards like it has wrongly been stated you can use cards on here.

The PayPoint terminals are conveniently located in the kiosk area of our Superstores and Supercentres or at customer services in our Supermarkets. PayPoint is a cash only service but don’t worry about having to carry lots of cash around with you as most of our stores have ATM’s right outside.

cards are fine in nearly all Paypoint stores - most of us will have used cards to top up

no idea if Asda have a cash-only policy

yeah tried that just got blank stares. To be fair I gave up as it was just a fiver.

29 Sep 17 #139
yes, not worth the hassle for you, this is why amazon are giving the £5 extra, to get shop staff and customers use to taking and paying payments by this method, win win for amazon but lose lose in your case.

FYI I returned an item which had been bought with the £5 promotion as part payment - Amazon did not refund the £5 at first, a little begging on Chat helped as did the fact that they had sent me the wrong size

30 Sep 17 #141
I nearly did, until I found there was a 25p surcharge for a card topup. For once, I had £20 cash on me, thankfully.

1 Oct 17 #142
Did this today and it was easier than I thought it would be

The shop wanted to charge £1 for a card top up though! - so I used cash
Immediate emaisl from amazon re £20 top up and £5 promo credit

Your wrong PayPoint is not a cash only service, you can pay by debit or credit card quite happily I have often bought electric on top of shopping with a debit card and have previously purchased electric at Co-Op who use PayPoint with a credit card!

i think im right im afraid, i was referring to asda paypoint terminals and you can most defiantly not use cards just cash, it even states it on there website.

When I showed bar code to the shop assistant, she said "what do you want me to do?" so I asked her can she scan it with pay point scanner and put £20 on my account.
She said "what option I pick on paypoint"? I said, just scan it, it should work. She giggled and said that is not how it works, she said you choose an option first etc. So I asked is there an option e-vouchers or similar? So long story short, basically she said it is impossible to do such thing and looked at me like I'm a fool, including other shoppers. Great experience! Might give up...

2 Oct 17 #149
Lol ....sorry but this was so my experience too with 2 coop stores - guy just wafted the scanner around expecting some magic to happen! :disappointed:

In the end got it added by Amazon via live chat but I never managed to do the actual top-up!

2 Oct 17 #150
I tried today, but the guy just looked at me blankly and said he didn't do it when I showed him the barcode on my phone. Can someone please explain to me why I need Paypoint if I can supposedly just show the staff the barcode on my phone and ask them to scan and put money on it?

Does the code on my phone have to be scanned at a Paypoint machine? Thanks!
luvsadealdealdeal
2 Oct 17 #151
sure - it's scanned by the Paypoint scanner & bob's your uncle

I wasn't till-side so didn't notice if my till girl had to tap on Amazon or not on her till monitor, I pay my council tax there as well and it was exactly the same process for me - ask the till staff to put £xyz on the a/c, scan the barcode, pay the amount owing by card
starray
2 Oct 17 #152
Is there a special option on the paypoint terminal that the staff have to select?
luvsadealdealdeal
2 Oct 17 #153
having said that, I used a printed barcode
luvsadealdealdeal
2 Oct 17 #154
somehow I doubt it, for example, you can pay your council tax and many gas & elec, water bills etc at any Paypoint in the country. There are 418 different councils billing council tax in the UK & (my guess) 100 or so different water & energy cos. So the Paypoint has to handle all those, it's not as if the agent has to go through an extensive long list to find your bill provider.

That's all contained in the barcode. I think the till process is simply: switch till monitor to Paypoint, key in amount to be paid, scan the barcode, click proceed, get customer to pay in cash or with card, print receipt.

Can confirm you are correct PayPoint transactions don't even get put through ASDA's tills they have a separate drawer where PayPoint money goes and is cashed up at the end of every night separate from rest of store tills. Because PayPoint transactions are not put through ASDA's tills it is cash only this is due to the PayPoint terminal being separate from ASDA's systems. Some stores such as spar shops can normally take card as the PayPoint system is integrated into the actual till.
