If you're looking for a colour printer for a small business/home office and you've got a bit of desk space to play with this seems like a crazy price when you combine with HP's cashback promotion!

I stick with Canon printers myself as the ink costs very little & is easy to obtain by the bucket load on Ebay. I had one HP years ago but never used it once the ink ran out as I didn't want to pay a fortune to buy the ink.....This deal is effectively a one shot printer as the majority will NEVER refill it. Now £69.99 to print 100 or so pages is no bargain. it's one of those things that appear to be the most fantastic deals in the history of the world but it's a trojan horse that will eat away your hard earned money. Just sayin'

ehm, £60 per each colour + black, so probably £240 to start with, it does not come with toner...LOL
i agree this is a lot of printer for the money. Lots of ink included in the starter cartridges, enough for 1500 colour pages. If you're doing lots of colour prints this is a terrific buy.
ink is available, but it's not easy to refill.

Title should read- "This is a lot of money for the printer ink's".

It would be cheaper to print the title if you removed the extraneous apostrophe.

32 pounds for a cartridge. Cold for me. Bought the epson wf2510 yesterday as ink is so cheap 12 pounds for 6 sets.

Epson for the win! HP tend to always be mega money for the ink cartridges from my findings...

Please tell me u are joking. I assume your referring to Epsons which do a cleaning cycle every couple of prints, clog up at the earliest opportunity and point blank REFUSE to print if the cartridge chip tells the printer it's empty (even though it's not) Never again will I buy epsons after being a dedicated Epson user over 3 generations of printer.

All 3 generations had the same problems?

1) Epson Stylus Colour 400/440 (First ever Printer). Thankfully no chip, but frequent cleaning cycles, and blocked nozzles and lines in printouts. 2) Epson Stylus C62. Chipped cartridges, also suffered exact same issues. 3) Epson stylus R300. As above - (printer failed completely after a mere 14 months and that was the final straw)
Then switched to a Canon ip6700D and what a difference! Infrequent clean cycles, nozzle blockages are extremely rare. Replaced with Canon MG6450, Again, very good printer, which sadly died on me a month ago and wont turn on (probably PSU failure).
Just bought a HP Officejet 7612 A3 printer and so far so good. Would probably have gone for this deal if it had been around at the time. WIll go back to Canon if things go pear shaped i reckon

I had a similar problem with my Epson WF2650 using both original and compatible inks,But now use refillable cartridges and no longer have endless cleaning cycles and the resetting is no more than pulling the "empty" one out and putting it back in,check out ink-girl on Ebay £20 for 4 refillable cartridges and 400ml of ink

3 generations of printer! So about 12 months worth. If you go by the buy a new printer when the ink runs out theory.

5 Sep 17#37
Tell me how you come to the conclusion thats 12 months worth? Do u even know the sales dates of those printers? It's more like nearly a decade. First printer came out circa 1995/6. 2nd about 1999 3rd about 2003/4. The canon ip6700D (now donated to my grandparents) is now over 10 years old and has outlived and outperformed every epson i've had.

My 6+ year old R360 is still going very strong on compatible inks...
And the office WF-3620DWF All in One is equally still going strong after 2 years...
So that's my experience with them...

My advise Buy a laser.

Until you don't use them for a couple of weeks and the nozzles clog up, and are impossible to unblock, thus writing off your printer.

5 Sep 17#28
You buy it for £99.99, then later claim £30 cashback (might take a few weeks to get back) total cost £69.99
jhokerpleyah to Roger_Irrelevant
5 Sep 17#29
Thanks Roger..
But how do you do cashback? Is it 100% sure I can get cashback?
And why dont they just sell for £69.99 instead of having all that trouble. Lol
Roger_Irrelevant to jhokerpleyah
5 Sep 17#39
Well say if 20% of people forget to claim, instead of paying out £300 they just pay out £240. It is hassle but worth it if you persevere.

I'm trying to think if I've replaced more inkjet printers because the cartridges are the same price as a new printer, or because the print heads are gummed up through lack of use...
Laser is great if you don't plan to use it often

Most printers are cheap these days. The money for these come from the toner costs. North of £40 for colour toners for any printer on the market

I would never entertain an inkjet, what a total waste of effort. Go for a laser, you won't regret it.

When you guys suggest get a laser printer, are you talking about a general monochrome toner laser or are the colour lasers any good?
My printer has died, a HP Officejet, but it lasted a few years. I'm at a complete crossroads of where to go now, I'm sick of overpriced ink. So maybe a laser or Epson the ones with ink tank?

Canon printers are dirt cheap to refill & the ink is cheap if you buy it on Ebay.

Pagewide? What is that meant to mean. I thought it meant A3, but no, A4/legal
MattP79 to PhilipGregson
6 Sep 17#51
It's literal - the printhead is the width of the maximum supported page size. They're an impressive beast when running at full speed. Faster than any basic laser printer. I used to install earlier variants and was mightily impressed with the printer but appalled at the ink cost...

6 Sep 17#45
In all of these comparisons to lasers, no one seems to have pointed out one of the best features of the printer in the OP. It uses the HP PageWide system which means the print head is as wide as the paper. We have one of these at work and it spits out pages far faster than a comparably priced printer (inkjet or laser). Not to mention less moving parts than a normal inkjet. If I was in the market for a new printer I'd get this.

How come inkjets used to run for years without clogging much but now even with numerous cleaning cycles they clog all the time? Last epson XP I bought at around £80 broke twice and had to be replaced under guarantee then the third one blocked after replacing the ink cartridges with genuine epson. It ran that many test pages and cleaning/alignment runs it used up all the ink in the pigmented black cartridge and refused to continue. Epson weren't interested as I had just gone over the 12 month limit from buying the first one.
No more Epsons for me.
If I had the room I might have gone for this but had to throw out a laserjet mono because of lack of room so have a huge Dell mono laser alone now.

Not happy with HP; their support and cost of cartridges; Developed a problem with Lexmark inkjet just 2 weeks after purchase, spent ages on phone with HP and gave up after sending £58 a pop twice on cartridges which were used just to test prints on demand from HP, trying to get alignment right. Then got Epsom 422 for generic prints with refillable cartridges, my annual cost of cartridges is about £11, printer itself was £56; and am happy with it. For laser, bought Lexmark mono E342n with refillable cartridge option (2nd hand) and Brother 9140CDN for color. Epson still turn out to be best cost effective on generic prints; while Brother and Lexmark are being used for quality prints for office use. Not turning this one down cold/hot rating as haven't tried this printer; but sharing my experience with other printers, including HP.
