After the super popular Mini NES and the new Mini SNES, this looks fab!
The World's best-selling Home Computer - Reborn!
It's 1982 and a new home computer graces the scene.
Out goes the silent black and white experience and in with 64KB of RAM, colour graphics, and synthesizer sound.
Roll forward 35 years and kick nostalgia into overdrive with the release of THE64 MINI.
A tiny but perfectly formed officially licensed 50% scale replica of this much loved machine.
Featuring high-definition output via HDMI, a classic style joystick and 64 built-in games including classics like California Games, Paradroid, Nebulus, Impossible Mission and Uridium.
Sorry, this is no good if it doesn't come with a screeching cassette player.
My dad used to spend ages programming games. One was a Hangman game. I told him we could just play it with paper and a pencil, but he was before his time!

my uncle would probably love this, but it's not Zx spectrum so no Daley Thompsons decathlon, which was basically the international track and field of his day
I cant help but feel there's 1 crucial thing missing from these and Sony will probably do it right, the system should have an online store that allows you to download tonnes of games, I'm talking PS1 mini with 20 games pre installed then an extra £3-5 for a games that are on an online store that you can download onto the system, 1 step further would be having PS+ gives you 1 free game a month

Ah, I thought that looked familiar
My brother bought his Atari 800xl with the serial connected floppy disc drive (130k if I recall correctly!) It was about the same price as buying just the disc drive to use with his Atari 400.
I wrote myself a game cheat program which could also dump the memory to disc and restore it later to speed up game loading and included a cassette emulator so I could transfer cassette games to disc, it worked by copying the OS rom to the paged in ram adding my own code and locking it so most software couldn't switch it out. I even fixed the bug in the OS which made tape loading unreliable (The OS didn't reset one of the custom chips, cant remember which but I think it might have been Pokey) often misreported as a hardware bug by computer magazines. I also wrote a separate program to make more reliably loading copies of many program tapes, which created a sharper recording free from crappy anti-piracy protection.
In those days software programming was often more fun than playing the games

Nice idea but 60 games, while it may sound a lot, isn't nearly enough as the games are no where near the scale of SNES games or even the NES games featured on the NES mini. To stand a chance of getting a good cross section of the classics they need 100+. Hopefully someone will discover a way to stick more on like the NES/SNES mini at which point I would be somewhat interested, though I always preferred the Speccy back in the day....

I'm very much a retro gamer, don't have these mini consoles but I can kind of see the appeal. We're now at a time where actual retro computers are no longer cheap and increasingly sparse TV's to run them on. I love emulators but It's really difficult to adjust to other controllers on some games. One example for me is Super Mario World - I need a really responsive, specific style of d-pad like the original. Yet I'd need another controller for another console / game.

I have to agree, and in particular about games ported from arcade machines to home computers. They were usually disappointing, even if the graphics were ok, they usually got the playability wrong, or at very least the sound was crap in comparison. Of course a handful of computer games were ported the other way - such as xenon (1) (possibly from ST) and Astro chase (Atari 800)
The only arcade game port I can recall preferring on a computer was the Defender port to the Atari 800, released on cartridge, and that was probably just because it was easier than the arcade machine.

This. Looks like they're slavishly following Nintendo by selling it at a similar price and offering a selection of games rather than the whole lot. Except there's a big difference between a C64 and a NES/SNES guys. If there's no way to add more games to it then they can get lost for £70!
