I just cannot quite bring myself to make the purchase after playing the 1 hour free to play , I found the gun mechanics to be really poor .

1 hour is nowhere near enough time to see what this game really offers. During this time, you just get a wrench, a glue gun and the pistol. You get the more powerful stuff a few hours into the game, including the skill abilities, which is where the game really shines.
For me, this is my GOTY, alongside Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Just started playing Divinity 2 today, it is pretty good so far, not really my kind of game, but I can see that the game is top class for its genre, I tend to prefer Dragon dogma /elder scrolls online a little more.
