Also, it seems ok on battery usage. I use LSD rechargeable AA for it and they last months before i have to charge them again.

I have this radio and its true the sound quality isn't that good, but it is a small speaker, low powered radio and they're never that good on sound anyway. I keep it in the bathroom, where being used only for short periods the sound quality isn't a big issue. But the main thing it has in its favour is the sensitivity of its DAB receiver, its stronger than any other DAB i've owned. I live in only a low to medium signal area, but this radio will receive DAB stations my other DAB radios wont. It doesn't even need the aerial extended. Its also DAB+. For rooms other than the bathroom, i use radios with better quality sound, but none of them are as sensitive as this Sony.

DAB is old tech DAB+ is the future, its already well established in Germany and is the format they replaced the analogue systems with, I presume because not enough funding was provided to upgrade this in the UK the Public have been switching to DAB and are now finding out they will need to upgrade again to DAB+. I'm sure some will think that's the way company's operate , you rush into buy the latest tech which is then swiftly superseded by newer, better versions

I was looking at one of these, had my Sony dab ( similar but 8 years old ) But only DAB and not + is there much difference or just another con?

My Tesco refurb DAB at £12 has solid sound and I found a solution to the battery conundrum. Apart from using 4 AA Eneloops that give about 7 hours of use, it has a standard USB micro socket for power. During power cuts (whenever we get them they last hours), I simply plug in one of the power banks I use for travel. Seems to run forever this way

To expect good bass and sound from a radio this size is expecting a bit much and use earphones to get stereo also saving a bit of battery life. To check for DAB + stations in your area... justconnectme.co.uk/uk-…ge/

Uses alot of power for a new radio. I have an old Roberts Ecologic 1 which does about 25 hours on 4 X AA, this manages about half that.

If your after a small portable dab+ radio I got on a previous deal a Roberts Play 10 which replaced an older Philips dab radio. Its definitely an improvement over the previous radio.

Presumably it eats batteries like every other DAB radio I've tried?

It can run on batteries or the supplied power adapter

Yep it's an excellent radio, we've got one, but make sure you buy your AAs in bulk whenever there's a deal on here.
It's a great pity these DAB radios can't be left recharging internal batteries from their mains unit like other types of devices.

Agree with Blackrussian, rubbish sound for a Sony radio. I got this - Sony SRF-18 Portable AM/FM Stereo , not a ghetto blaster but sound is good and it will play your phones stored music if plugged into it!

Rubbish, sound quality very poor like that of a very cheap manufacturer, I'm a strong advocate of Sony products but not this one!!

If you're wanting to buy a DAB radio but don't have much knowledge on them, you can't go wrong with a Roberts DAB or a Pure DAB. They seem to be the market leaders
