Was £860 last time it was available to order so a decent drop and even though they just announced the mark iv, that is coming in at £1800! so I can't see the price for the III getting any better than this anytime soon.

Available to order though not currently in stock, someone mentioned last time it took 3 weeks before they got theirs so you could be in for a wait, but at this price I think it is worth it.

This is a bridge camera so no changing lenses, and it's expensive as it packs a lot of tech including a top notch lens with lots of reach, 4K video and high frame rate video upto 1000fps.

This would probably be a better choice for many people rather than a budget DSLR or mirrorless camera especially if you want a good zoom lens.

Hey guys, some good news - I am about to receive £150 cash back from Sony, just had an email confirming it! So all in all this camera cost me £700

Is that good news for everyone, as this promotion is still available, or are you just gloating? :joy:
Kudos to you, good deal for £600!

You can run a GPS datalogger on your phone and then GPS tag your photos afterwards as long as you make sure your camera clock is correct.

I have the RX 10 MARK 2

brilliant camera, and far better than the fantastic phone camera on the s7 edge (as youd expect). But its well worth having for me even though I'm not a pro.

Got it at full price about £1000 and am very happy. I'm in no way a pro and found this really improved my photos.

Warning family will steal it for their holidays and the slow mo feature is way too fun!!

Very Good value price. Heat.

Great camera now superseded though by the newly announced MK IV which amongst other things fixes this camera's achilles heel of inconsistent focussing when zoomed in. If focussing could be a problem for you and you don't want to stump up the extra £££ for the IV consider the excellent Panasonic FZ1000

for this ££ why wouldn't you get a DSLR? honest question....

The Sony offers a convenient all in one package, a DSLR with a comparable lens will be larger and heavier plus the DSLR loses some of its larger sensor advantage through the slower lens, the RX10's lens is better quality as well. The RX10 is much better than a DSLR for video, you can use the viewfinder for video, it has high speed AF in video and it offers a variety of high speed shooting modes up to 1000fps for video. It can also burst at 14fps and its electronic shutter can hit a maximum of 1/32000.

I have a few DSLRs and mirrorless cameras including some with this focal length range but there are times I'd like to just take a single, fairly compact camera rather than a multitude of cameras and lenses.

Hey guys some great responses on here to the pros and cons and actually from some who own this camera so can comment from experience. Thank you. I'm gonna see how I get on with this (if I ever get it) and might have a go on the mark 4 just to see if there's a real noticeable difference. Can anyone let us know on here if this gets delivered to you as I'd like to think I got in really early on my order so am keen to get this. Thanks and keep up your constructive views on this. Yeah seems strange about the lack of gps these days in a device people would travel with.

I was swithering between this and a D5500 + Sigma 18-35 back when this was still around £1200. The big things pushing me toward this camera were the flexibility of its lens (albeit at the expense of its aperture), its size & weight, and its video capabilities, which absolutely blow the D5500's away. Price was a minor advantage too, albeit much more of one in retrospect after I spent almost as much as this whole camera on a 600mm lens. At this price point, and for someone who's particularly interested in shooting video and who isn't fussed about this camera's inferior low-light performance or stills quality, this camera seems to me to be a very compelling purchase.

Yep - it was me, had it for about £850 in the end! waited about 20 days, camera came in as a whole package, nothing was missing, not a mark on it. Really happy with purchase! IMHO not worth getting mk4.

Voted hot for the price but I, personally, do not know why anyone would pay this sort of money for a camera without GPS - how on earth can you keep track of the pictures you take? If anyone can tell me please how to directly geotag with this camera, you will put a big smile on my face and might even force me to buy one!

There is a application on your mobile. Just go on YouTube with your question. Remember guys this is 1inch sensor so forget about nice low light performance. For this money I would go for Nikon d5300 and new Tamron 18-400mm zoom lens
damcnaught to Sliwka
13 Sep 17 #6
Good idea, unless you need a smaller package or high frame rate video (which would both be nice features).

Would the benefit of APSC vs 1 inch greatly outweight the f2.4-4 on the sony VS f3.5-6.3 on the Nikon/Tamron in terms of low light performance?

From reviews, it's likely the RX10 will be sharper in the 400mm range, where the Tamron isn't supposed to be great.
Sliwka to damcnaught
13 Sep 17 #25
It's not going be sharper. I believe you can check this on dxo mark. Nikon sensor is twice larger and have a better autofocus performance, but I need admit it's larger especially with the Tamron lens.
glennhoward007 to Sliwka
13 Sep 17 #7
I've read numerous reviews on this and watched YouTube vids and there is very little slagging off of the low light performance. This has won numerous awards and seems to be a great camera.
My order went in last time when it was about £863 but alas was never sent out and order got cancelled. Have jumped on this again early in the hope I actually get it this time
Minstadave to glennhoward007
13 Sep 17 #9
Mk4 has an improved AF system, faster burst speed and a deeper buffer. Not sure it’s worth another £1000 on top of this price.

Low light is all relative, it’ll be better than a mobile by far but will lag begind APSC and full frame DSLRs. It’ll be fine for most and you can always add a flash.
glennhoward007 to Minstadave
13 Sep 17 #11
Totally my thoughts on the extra £1000 not really being justified. For what I need I think this will be more than enough and some. Additional flash no problem too.

The picture is usually a clue as to where you were when you took it - or do you have serious memory problems?
cibarious to Besford
13 Sep 17 #15
I'll assume you are just being dumb and explain things to you. :innocent:

When I am travelling I take between 2,000 and 3,000 pictures and I would suggest that even someone with an eidetic memory would find it impossible to remember the location of each of these pictures to with 5 metres unless they, personally, had a built in GPS! :nerd:
Besford to cibarious
13 Sep 17 #26
I do have GPS on my travel camera - but I try very hard to take 'memorable' pictures!

PS These new emojis aren't as good as the old ones, are they?
PPS Well done getting 'eidetic' into a HUKD thread - excellent!

This is one of those comments written by someone who thinks what they're saying is an insult to the person they're saying it to, but instead, it's one which only exposes their own lack of experience and narrowness of thought. It's like a child saying that beer is yucky and that everyone should just stick to Ribena.

Mytrax app on your phone will do this.
cibarious to DrSi
13 Sep 17 #18
Thanks for the suggestion. The challenge with this is that it then becomes necessary to have the time in the camera exactly synced with the time in the phone and then the time to tie the gps data with a particular photograph and then to update the EXIF with that GPS data. All in all, a pain in the butt as I take travel pictures in the thousands. I am currently using a Sony HX400V which does exactly what I want but the camera is getting a bit long in the tooth and my camera is in a state of collapse. So, I am looking to replace it with a more up to date bridge super-zoom but it seems that no one is building any new cameras with built in GPS, at any price.
Johnmcl7 to cibarious
14 Sep 17 #28
You can do it all automatically in bulk using software, using a GPS log it can match the date/time from the photo against the GPS log to find where the photos was taken and then put that GPS information in the photo EXIF data to geotag it. It's not something I've done myself but it may be worth experimenting with and see how you find it because as you've said, almost no new cameras offer GPS builtin:
