Apparently loads of people have had USB connectors fail on these so worth being careful, though this is probably a good price for a 480gb msata drive if that's what's inside.

There are some similar reviews on amazon, connector failure followed by trying to recover data.

Yes but there is a lot of 5 star reviews, people with a problem squeal the most, the ones with no problem keep stum. For any one with a not seen drive in Windows try booting on a USB stick a Linux live O/S, have retrieved stuff this way.

Can the drive be removed from the enclosure and used as a normal sata SSD?
This looks like either an msata or m.2 ssd... Both of which can be used with sata adapters

There are pictures of what it looks like inside on anandtech.com/Gal…933 and based on that, it _might_ be an ordinary SATA connector as you can see in pic 2 there are 7 solder marks on the left hand side of the connector and 15 more on the right hand side. However with all that white gunk obscuring it, it's tricky to tell if it is detachable or not. I'd say that's almost certainly not mSATA nor is it M.2.
