Does anyone know if the European models will support WiFi calling, android pay etc without having to be reflashed ?

17 Sep 17#3
Unfortunatly not, UK Firmware has to be flashed onto this device but it's simple enough to do. (Edit: Oh actually, maybe only Samsung services work when flashed, not sure about Android Pay)

I've flashed an EE firmware onto a sim free S8 to get wifi calling before, and Android Pay still works (as the phone wasn't rooted).

Any disadvantages of not having a UK model that you know of?

As an owner of the Italian European model, the only thing was not being able to use certain Samsung Services without flashing

I've got a SIM free S8, I use it on EE and have WiFi calling. No flashing required.

Yep, EE wifi calling works on the BTU international firmware
to comfirm, to get the 3 wifi calling working you need to flash the 3 firmware using Odin. You do get the 3 boot screen and a few 3 apps which you can remove easily. So not too bad.

It also works on the OnePlus 5 stock firmware. As does VoLTE
I know this is kind of unrelated but there was a few posts regarding the OP5 here.

Everything works out of the box. On first phone start where you select your language, it will remember it for future wipes. Wifi calling works no problem.
Yep - partners s8 broke dropped from 10cm... Very very fragile phone. Not worth the money.
European quick charger in the box.

Yes, when the phone arrives, make sure you put your uk sim in before it gets turned on. It will turn on and change itself to UK. WiFi calling works on Vodafone but you have to enable it with a text message. Both uk android pay and Samsung pay work.

Hi can anyone tell me all the differences between Europe model and U.K. Model and can I use it with my ee SIM card? Might sound silly but I haven't a clue lol

Different plug (you can use any though obviously), but you should be able to use your EE sim card no problem.

Good deal but after an issue with my S7 Edge (and dealing with the dreadful third party repair company ANOVO), I will never ever purchase another Samsung phone.

Very good phone apart from front glass breaking down . Ebay full of broken or smashed screen S8 phones
thegamingkinginfo to sam_of_london
17 Sep 17#13
I've heard that the device is fragile but a simple screen protector, good case (such as Rhinoshield Crashguard) and a bit of care should do the trick
synasla to sam_of_london
18 Sep 17#46
It's not breaking on it's own, if you drop a phone it will break. It's not the phone's fault. Bumper case and tempered glass protector does the job. I never had a broken screen in my life,
sam_of_london to synasla
18 Sep 17#43
Normally phones do break front glass when in case as metal on the edges .But there being glass on the edges . it breaks very easy ,so eBay full of broken phones and condemned by insurance .
wakaru to sam_of_london
19 Sep 17#56
The phone is fully covered with glass in front and back, so no wonder why it cracks..... An added problem is that tempered glass screen protectors (which are available) are usually not compatible with cases, so either you protect the front (with a tempered glass) or the back (with a case)... which feels like a compromise if you ask me. My S8 has a pvc film glass protector and a case, and so far so good, but I'd rather have been able to use a tempered glass protector for peace of mind instead.

Anyone know how this compares to a one plus 3 and a one plus 5? I have a one plus 3 and was looking get the s8 or the one plus 5. Thanks.
fishmaster to i_raz
17 Sep 17#15
The One Plus 5 has 8GB RAM, doubtful you'd use it, but bragging rights maybe. Hopefully the One Plus 5 is cheaper. Samsung have the best displays which is why the iPhone X is using Samsung panels. The One Plus 5 will likely have a lower resale value too.
sam_of_london to fishmaster

This can also work as computer with Dex dock . Downside is that it very fragile glass and breaks very easily. Very expensive to change screen. Simple fall breaks the glass, condemned by insurance companies.
Got a one plus 5 absolutely smashes the Atuntu tests. Samsung for screen... O+5 for RAM and performance.

I don't really use my camera tbh. But I believe the MP on the O+5 are superior. Software will be improved over time has it always has been.

Not really about MP these days. Doesn't represent quality

17 Sep 17#29
Yeah they've done alot of software shifting since then. I must admit I didn't use the camera as a selling point. But didn't they market the O+5 as the camera as USP? They only just recently enabled 4k video recording on the phone.

Does anyone have experience of Argos fleabay refurbished phones, I'm deciding between this deal and a s8 refurb ( £539 ) ?
Dave_c to Puddlehopper
18 Sep 17#39
I've bought a few refurbished phones from Argos, its always hit and miss. Some have scratches and other signs of use. Another the charging port was faulty. Then some are fine. For that kind of money id probably give it a miss, but they do refund if you have any issues.

It's people thinking phones are a deal at this sort of price that is allowing the likes of Samsung and Apple to keep putting their prices up and up. Near half a grand for a phone is never going to be a bargain let alone £1150!!!!
Sure this will provoke some ire, but remember other technologies become cheaper over time, not more expensive...laptops for example.

I bought on the other deal which was £530 and fulfilled by amazon. Happy enough still, however anyone worrying about the EU side to it. Dont bother.

Ive just bought the S8 plus for £517 from eglobal...but after reading some of the comments i'm worried now as I don't know if these are EU models.. Can anybody with more knowledge help please. I've posted the link below Samsung S8 plus eglobal
Dave_c to thairidgebacksuk
18 Sep 17#53
As far as I can see eglobal are not EU models, so will not be covered under the Samsung warranty. You will need to send the phone back to eglobal for any repairs, which looking at other threads can take months.
sam_of_london to thairidgebacksuk
19 Sep 17#57
But you would have got the dual sim model in which you can use two sim cards. So better than UK model . Eglobal also sells a model with 6gb ram which is not available in UK .

Warranty for 2 years will be a hassle if something was to go wrong with the device. It would have to get sent back as Samsung won't repair devices such as this due it having no UK serial number. You are better off buying a UK batch device otherwise it'll just end in a hassle.
