No sorry they won't. I called and asked, they said Samsung had "reduced their funding" for the phone and they couldn't do it for £200 upfront.

Seems there are a lot of very capable smartphones out there for a third of this price just not the premium (??) badge.*
So I am happy to be educated - why has the price of these top flight smartphones gone into orbit, I really don't get it. I'm guessing production costs are similar and I bet either respective finished item costs Apple or Samsung < £150.
I suppose I know the answer 'its the sheep' (either brand) who don't want to risk the latest Chinese 'Itchyfanny' Amoled Smartphone Octa Core with 6gb 64gb 5.7 screen 5000 mah battery for £115. Although lets face it both Note 8 and Iphone 8 are produced in China/Vietnam/Korea.
Ok rant over back to my coffee and moaning about Brexit and the Moody's downgrading........

Premium tag because it has premium hardware and tech I guess. I would imagine the Note 8 is better than my original Nokia 3310 which on contract in the late 90's was more expensive.
Interesting and conclusion bears out the sheep comment - supply and demand as long as people are prepared to pay the manufactures will continue to fleece the public ..

It's extremely simple to understand. The phones with the highest cost have the best features, this is undisputed. DXOMark currently ranks the iPhone 8 Plus as having the best camera on any smartphone ever, for this to happen Apple had to beat the Google Pixel and HTC U11. I don't remember Apple having a class leading camera sensor in their flagship phone for quite some time. The design costs, R&D, masses of sensors, screen technology in these devices push the price up. You can get 90%+ of these features in any other phone, but you don't get the quality of features. You might be happy with a £200 phone, but guaranteed it doesn't have the quality of user experience in all areas as the high end phones, for most people they can live with that, if you want the best you have to pay for it.
I recently moved from a 2015 Galaxy S6 to a 2016 Sony XZ. I toyed with the idea of getting an S8 but for me it wasn't tempting enough. The XZ is faster and generally all round better than the S6 and cost me £169 used. So for me I didn't really require the absolute best at the time, this isn't the case for every person. I'm thinking of replacing the XZ sooner rather than later as the 3GB RAM is limiting for me, with how I use the phone, the amount of browser tabs I have open and other apps at the same time, the phone will start to slow down significantly, on the S6 it was potato slow, so I can just about live with it for now.

'Verry interesting - but stupid' (Rowan & Martins Laugh in remember it well) - Not true that the phones with highest cost always have best features - I believe the one plus 5 is pretty much up there with these. Certainly where it counts processor wise and RAM ROM and well under half the price.
Yes you pay a bit more for innovations of course but its pretty clear its the sheep that keep the price abnormally high not the innovation...
