Contemptible airline. Travel need not be such an endurance. The glee that this lot execute their lowest-common-denominator ethos is awful. I will not use them.

I'm looking to go to Poland in Aug 18 is it worth paying the £102 with bags or waiting see if it goes cheaper any advice?

How longs a piece of string?
Flights generally go up the more they're booked as they can ask more of a premium if it's in higher demand.
So usually it's better booking as early as you can. Saying that I suppose if you waited until the last minute and they had a few seats they would knock the price down?

Sorry, but that just is not true. The earlier you book with any low cost airliner, the more you will pay. Prices only get slashed once the flight costs are met, up until availability gets to X% before prices increase as availablity is at a premium. Those "last minute deals" are for flights which have only just covered their cost and the airline is trying to make a last ditch attempt at a profit.

Your talking rubbish. I fly with them at least once a month for work (And other people in my office once a week) and the prices always start off low and increase over time. 'Last min bargain flights' aren't really a thing with Ryan air or low cost carriers. as this is where they can really make their margin, charging people way over the odds when they need the flight.

I have checked the price of my flight a few times with them a day or so before flying (just to see what difference it makes) and I have never once seen my flight cheaper than what i paid

Obviously there will be fluctuations depending on demand, but in general prices increase the closer to departure

From my experience which may not be as much as yours, I've found the price starts at a OK price slowly creeping up then will have a sudden drop, which is hard to know when, then rise again to very high. Any sale times of the year is a good time to look. I paid £400 all in for 4 of us going Gran Canaria in August, I booked around 5 weeks before flying. Last year I booked in November for Easter this year again for 4 of us to Gran Canaria and paid £250 all in.
pwel to trakker1
11 Sep 17 #39
I think the fluctuations are related to the demand at the time. I booked my flights early for Xmas because Im flying multiple destinations. Most of my Ryanair flights are now cheaper , apparently there isn't enough demand atm. But as the number of available seats gradually will be decreased, the prices will go up.

OK.... I know its a bargain ain't it.

If you wanted the morning flight on Thursday this week its £58.99 same flight next week £25.19 then the week after £12.99

So the last min flight are more expensive. So get booking if you want to do it again or the price will only go up

+1 Same with Easyjet, the desperation to fly on short notice forces people to pay a premium (60 pound return to bulgaria booked 2 months in advance, 270 pound booked a week before)

60 days before you fly is generally the cheapest time to book with Ryanair

12 Sep 17 #52
Its good we all can have an opinion even if they are different. Ryan airs track records lends me to believe its another way of forcing you to pay for priority. 1 hand luggage was fine for years
bolty1968
12 Sep 17 #48
I was more i dont want to wait at bag reclaim when i book a weekend away. Pointless allowing 2 hand luggage bags now have to put one in the hold. Waiting at airports is something we could all do without.
Looking at some ibiza flts in june ryanair want 160 for just the return so certainly not cheap
lidds to bolty1968
12 Sep 17 #51
Not pointless, necessary as there isnt enough room on the plane for everyone to take all of their carry on bags with them.

This is a very simple and effective solution
lassy
12 Sep 17 #47
Just checked some of these airlines and your still allowed you cabin pull along and not forced to put it in the hold , its not the cost I'm moaning about its the bs excuses of bringing in new costs i agree Ryanair is cheaper but it does not make it right they put you in that position same thing with the seating, I'm sorry now for trying to help people by bringing their attention to this new policy. I will still use them but that does not mean i have to like what they do
lassy
11 Sep 17 #42
you can only speak about your experience which is all you have to go on, but i came home from Tenerife in June and my experience was the exact opposite only about 5 people at the gate took up the offer i was sat in row 18 i think and no one in front of us was left without putting up their luggage so at least you had the choice now you have the choice taken away
lidds to lassy
12 Sep 17 #46
How are you having the choice taken away, if anything you are now given more choice!.

Previously if you wanted your 2nd large bag to be with you on board then you had to rush to get to the front of the line, as when it reaches a certain point they would start tagging peoples bags for the hold, as there simply isn't enough space left.
So if you were at the end of the line you often would have no choice but to have your 2nd bag put in the hold.
However now you are given a very clear choice pay a few £ extra and have your 2nd bag with you. Or have your larger carry on placed in the hold. (Not forgetting you still get to keep a smaller one with any valuables you don't want to go in the hold)

I genuinely can't see what your issue with this is

As the OP I thought I'd add I fly with my family 3 times a year to Tenerife from Birmingham and have done the last 10 years during school holidays. I have flown with every airline that does that route and have no issues with any really ... However the Ryan air flights are always cheaper to begin with, monarch and Jet 2 fluctuate and although I've paid a whole £6 to reserve seats and the new cabin luggage thing a pain. This is the cheapest I've flown in 4 years so hoped to save other people money as well. Not cause an argument regarding the way they run their business because unfortunately they want to make profit.

Got to say I am with Lidds on this.....Lassy you seem a bit overly distressed given the reality of the situation.

Granted there will be times you don't want to risk putting bags in the hold - so pay priority (I hadn't appreciated this aspect of the new.policy so thanks Lassy for that). However, too many Wheely cases means there is often no room and people are up and down the plane ...I've been travelling Ryanair for years and often ask at check in if they are looking for volunteers for checking the hand luggage free.

No doubt in the long run this will mean people don't have to pay as many checked bags and so those that want only handluggage will fit on board.
lassy
11 Sep 17 #40
Hope my post has helped some of you and bring to your attention the new way that Ryanair is trying to get that few extra quid out of you and what you have experienced as free in the past you now have to pay for although other airlines still allow you a pull along. Make up your own mind in my opinion the words they spout are full of lies. Despite Michael O'Leary son chirping in and giving stats that have no backing behind them just words. I'm sure most people would prefer to have their pull along with them so they can exit the airport asap
trakker1 to lassy
11 Sep 17 #41
I understand it will bug some people but I took a flight from Prestwick and just before the gate opened they asked over the speaker system if anyone would like to place there bags in the hold free of charge and I would say nearly the whole flight did. So maybe they are going off numbers of people wanting to from various flights in the past and also I'm sure it will help speed things up. It's not for everyone though!

11 Sep 17 #38
I see we've sidetracked from the original deal discussion.Just to throw my opinion into the mix, the new Ryan Air baggage policy only bothers me in so much as it means I now have to wait for my hand luggage to come out on the conveyor, rather than being able to grab my bag from overhead and leg it to the front of the queue at immigration.
Also, increased chance of some numpty baggage handler breaking my stuff.
lassy

11 Sep 17 #37
How are you trying to help, I'm at least offering solutions for people and pointing out the facts rather than moaning and having a huge dislike for a company becasue they need to maintain their margins with costs constantly increasing.

How do you feel about them reducing the cost for hold luggage,? is this outrageous too?

You have probably noticed that as they get toward the back half of passengers they ask them to put their large carry on case in the hold as their simply isn't enough overhead room.? Have you not noticed this?

By doing this it allows those that require their larger carry on case to be with them inside the cabin for a small cost, and boarding will be quicker and easier as there will be less people trying to shove their cases in the overhead lockers. Leading to faster boarding and disembarking of the plane
Everyone's a winner

Also (again) you really should read that article you quoted, it explains clearly when they started to allow a free 2nd bac average capacity was 82% that rose to 97% in Aug this year. More people = More bags.....

Which parts of my statements have been S*** ? Your the one who misquoted me earlier. and doesn't appear to understand that airlines aren't a public service that everyone is entitled to, but are in fact a business there to make money.
lassy
11 Sep 17 #28
Perhaps i miss read your quote my bad, My point in the original post was to make people aware they are no longer entitled to take their larger bag on board unless you pay for priority boarding which is another way of getting extra out of you again not long after introducing their middle seat policy for groups unless you pay for your seat. Pointed out the article but your comment was personal as if i had not read it what makes you think that as i made people aware exactly what the article was saying and what i said you wont get to take you pull along unless you pay so where would you put your laptop, tablet, valuables and other electricals that are personal to you and which is allowed on all other flights you want these items close at hand hence cabin luggage allowance now Ryanair has taken this away from you. Now there will be lots more at baggage reclaim but they cant charge for that can they. Making more opertunity for unscrupilouse luggage thieves

Pain in the bum having to put your hand luggage in the hold. I aporeciate its at no cost but the whole point of travelling with and luggage is to get off the plane at not wait for hold luggage. Lots of ryanair flights are for weekend breaks where the last thing you need is to wait at the bag reclaim. We alk know Ryanair try to milk as much extra from us as possible. What does puzzle me they always go on the are the most punctual airline in europe then say the bags have to go in the hold to stop flight delays. I don t buy it personally.
lassy to bolty1968
11 Sep 17 #30
My exact point plus the fact there is more potential for damage to these items as they are easier to throw about we have all seen how bags are handled. I remember Ryanair saying they didn't want people to take hold luggage and their aim was for people to be just taking cabin luggage to reduce weight making the planes more fuel efficient and stuff like that now looks to be a complete reversal since they got into the milking game. My opinion is that this Kenny Jacobs has done far more damage than good to their reputation.
lidds to bolty1968
11 Sep 17 #32
Where do you expect them to place all of the bags if everyone is allowed two carry on bags each ?

If people are worried about valuables, just place them in your smaller bag and leave the non valuable / fragile items in your FREE Hold bag.

Or stop been a tight ars* and just pay £5?

I just checked the pricing of a route I know and Ryanair is charging £100 more per person than BA for the same route on the same day. BA flight times much better and the experience way better.

In my experience, Ryanair used to start low and increase the price. Now, often it starts high, for those who need to book miles ahead, for weddings, accommodation, etc. and then lowers the price if necessary closer to departure time and then increases until departure.

Caveat emptor.

Check elsewhere before booking.

11 Sep 17 #23
Used to love Ryanair but their new BS pricing to make you book your seat and now this theguardian.com/bus…age has quite honestly made me have a huge dislike for their underhanded bs excuses of just making you pay a little more for the privilege and holding a gun against your head. After many years of flying 4 times a year with them and always getting a seat next to my hubby in June this year we were suddenly sat in the middle row miles apart with plenty of empty seats one of which was right next to me, and the Kenny Jacobs excuse was complete BS so in my opinion they are now no longer a low cost but should be renamed BS airlines.

Did you even bother to read the article you quoted,?

" A second, larger, wheelie bag will have to be placed in the hold free of charge at the boarding gate, to be collected at baggage reclaim on arrival."

You are still allowed to take two bags with you for FREE. I really don't see the issue with this. You still get to take 2 bags with you for free, its just you can only have your smaller one with you on board

They have issues with 'over crowding' for storage so this seems like a perfectly sensible solution, If you have been flying with them for years I'm sure you will remember only been allowed one carry on bag for free. Surely one free with you and one free in the hold is better?
lassy to lidds
11 Sep 17 #25
Yes i did read it and you are allowed 2 bags 1 is the pull along the other is a smaller bag not a pull along which is what i have been doing for the last 4 years the bag that will be taken from you will be the pull along and only people who have booked priority will be allowed this second back, so to answer your question YES i did read it did you cant see a mention of a third bag myself here is the passage.
"Priority boarders will still be able to carry on two bags, but all other passengers will be allowed to take only one smaller bag on board the aircraft. A second, larger, wheelie bag will have to be placed in the hold free of charge at the boarding gate, to be collected at baggage reclaim on arrival." seems one of us is not seeing what the other is. It seems you have take part of the quote then made up what you think it means in the second part sorry but you are miss quoting my friend the whole quote is above read it carefully.
lidds to lassy
11 Sep 17 #27
What are you on about?!

I never mentioned a 3rd bag at all, and never indicated that you did. Seems your the one making things up I quoted part of the story then explained in a bit more detail.

Please can you explain which part of my initail statement is incorrect?
lassy to lidds
11 Sep 17 #26
Its not difficult to police for gods sake you can clearly tell people what the samller bag should be and would be quite easy to spot its just a way of getting more money hiding it behind the smoke screen of others bringing on larger bags why do they have a measuring crate to the side of the boarding gate, no excuses its just another cost for us to carry plain and simple. Some people like myself just take a pull along therefore avaiding the long wait at baggage reclaim which is now not going to happen, another bs excuse is that over 90% of the time your baggage is available as soon as you clear security in my personal experience i have never had my luggage waiting for me like this. just more empty lies.

It's usually worked for me anyway. Failed once.

Why not they have a great safety record, usually the cheapest fare, one of the most punctual airlines around, and if your not an idiot and check in online then there are no additional fees to pay (Apart from things like a hold bag or seat reservations which is the case with most airlines)
