I have no experience of these speakers but for £99 you can't go far wrong. Floorstanders shouldn't sound any different to stand mounts, the cabinet below the drivers just replaces the stand that you would put standmounts on and is sealed off from the speaker enclosure. I would consider these if I didn't have too many speakers already... :sunglasses:

A larger cabinet does effect the sound. Usually gives better bass extension. A stand really isn't the same.

Possibly yes, but I suspect that you would be hard pushed to notice any difference between these and their bookshelf equivalent at this price point.

I was about to say at this price point it wouldn't make a difference but further up you go yes it definitely does. I just purchased monitor audio silver speakers and my God the difference between them and my old Kef q7 speakers is night and day.

I don't think it's the same thing. They're completely different speakers. The Silvers do have really good bass response for their size. I found their soundstage to be less than I wanted. They're great for bass heavy music.
Cabinet size usually makes a difference to sound.

I'm in the Silver club too, they LOVE solid copper cabling and biwiring :sunglasses:

I don't remember what mine are but they're blue and don't want to bend! I'll Google those Van Damme ones.

Really strange that this pops up, I've just taken delivery of 2 x denon scn9 speakers for my rear 2 channels as they looked small, however they're in real life bigger than my current fronts and don't have stand mounts so I can't keep them.
Now my thinking is that I really like my fronts (Boston acoustics) so maybe I should use those as my rears as they're small and are stand mountable, and get some floorstanders for the front!? I also love the look of floorstanders and have heard they're a nicer sounding quality than book shelves, I missed out on the recent mx3i missions at £150 so am tempted by these.
I realise I'm ranting here just hoping someone who knows more than me passes by with their thoughts and/or conversation !

You could give a couple of Richer Sound stores a call and ask them their thoughts on your set-up and what you are thinking of doing, if you cannot make it to a store. You could possibly ask for a demonstration in store or at home. Opinions will of course very a bit between people.

Went in and did exactly that today. He sold them to me and my only concern was floor space either side of my TV cabinet. Got them home and took one look at the size of the boxes in my lounge and thought there's sadly no way they'll fit nicely. So I've left them sealed for a refund. If I'd have opened them I'd have had to pay 15% if they value of the speakers
Shame as they're really nice looking speakers and I like the tannoy brand of speakers

Worth checking the dimension of the speakers and doing a little measuring. The box may be a lot bigger than the speakers due to excessive protective packaging. Worth a check as you like them. Otherwise a shame but you'll find some other speakers soon and they will be worth the wait

I made a rough cardboard model with the dimensions from Tannoy's website and unfortunately we didn't think they'd look right, the TV stand is in the corner so if you can imagine there's only a "triangle" space for the speakers and although I'm OK for depth, these are too wide :disappointed:
I actually bought some Denon bookshelf speakers for a bargain £40 from Amazon this week intended for my rears but they don't have a way to attach them to stands so I may swap my stuff around and try the Denons at the front just placed on my TV stand, and move my current fronts (Boston Acoustic A23) onto some speaker stands and use them as rears.
