This is a deal, but it's a midrange device. Very comparable to a Moto G5s. Same chipset and camera module. There's a few "sponsored" videos around that will claim it's camera is superior to it, but at the moment the software processing on the Moto is better and the EIS is much better. but these are things that "could" be improved by an update.

Probably safest to assume this will cost:

£166.68 + Import Duty (£4.17 @ 2.5%) + VAT (£34.17 @ 20%) + Royal Mail Handling (£8) = £213. If you get it for less, that's a bargain.

I can't comment on the BG refunds I'm afraid as I've never had to make a claim. I've refused several deliveries from AliExpress though and have had no trouble getting refunds from there. I've probably got lucky though.

One thing to consider is the warranty.. my previous 2 phones from BG have developed niggling faults over the years. On both occasions, I've given up trying to figure out how to make a warranty claim and have just lived with the fault. If it was a problem on arrival or something more serious, I would probably have put more effort into making a claim, but it's not been a simple process.

Shame the battery is so meagre on this. I've opted for a Doogee BL5000 instead which spec for spec doesn't seem bad, although does have the inferior Mediatek processor.. only £108 too at the moment. We'll see how it fares. My previous Oukitel k6000 has served me well, although the finger print sensor packed up after a few months, the camera was rubbish from day one and the screen digitiser is just starting to go iffy 15months in.

Depends on how lucky you are feeling. The last 2 phones I've bought from BG haven't had incurred me any extra fees.
On the other hand, I bought a $5 item from aliexpress which the seller oddly put a $10 value on the customs declarations for. DHL wanted to charge me a £20 handling fee + VAT + duty. I declined and got a refund from the seller.
Asking the seller to misrepresent the value on a customs form I suspect would be fraud.

Can anyone help explain what the VAT/import/custom situation is when ordering from sites like this or aliexpress etc? Tried my best to get to the bottom of it but still unsure. Some sellers may be willing to declare a lower value?

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it too much. At 5V/2A it will still charge pretty quickly (it's a slightly smaller battery than the Redmi Note 3/4).

What Xiaomi phone have you got? I have Redmi Note 3 and with that you can remove the battery and can replace it with a new one.

Its great to see Xiaomi has ramped up its support for 4g im sure i saw that the release specs for the new mi mix had more 4g bands than any other phone . I hope this is their new standard.

I Bought an Xiaomi phone last year, battery packed up after 9 Months, trying to get it sorted was a long and lengthy process which took Months.
Scary really if you are paying Hundreds of Pounds to a Chinese based company makes it a lot more difficult to deal with repairs refund etc

Its annoying how a device like this is more than capable 99% of the time but when you need to take a good photo you're kinda stuffed. I'd pay more for a better camera but these Chinese phones seem to struggle with picture quality regardless of the price you pay.

Is the battery life on this expected to fall well short of the Note 4? I read one review which seemed to simply state that it would 'last the day'
