Hi again, Just realised this one is not for me. I did not know it appears to be a running watch only and does not appear to track gym work, which is my main requirement.

It does, brilliant for the gym. Swipe right to see the workout menu, try Youtube for examples.

It is a great watch and app, but please don't think its waterproof, it will wreck it, just happened to my one, pic below. Water will come in from the atmospheric pressure sensor (tiny hole on the left of the watch).

What's this thing like as a general smartwatch? Does it do normal android-wear style notifications quick reply, and music player integration etc?

I have this watch and in fact I've ordered another one for my wife yesterday.
It doesn't run Android Wear. However, it runs Android and you can side load "some" android-wear applications to it (search youtube for which ones you can use).
I've migrated from a Pebble II mainly because my GP suspects that I have heart issues and asked me to monitor my heart rate, which the AMAZFIT can do.
I personally think this watch is a lot better than all other smart watches mainly because it's designed to work independently without a phone. I leave my phone home when I go running and the AMAZFIT tracks where I've been via the built-it GPS; I also store hundreds of MP3 on it and it shuffles them for me while I'm running via Bluetooth headphones. Also, you don't have to charge it everyday like all other smart watches. I have 24-hours heart monitoring and I run 2-3 times a week (during which GPS tracking is turned ON and obviously uses more battery) and the battery lasts for 4+ days comfortably. I charge mine twice a week just in case. Sleep tracking is nice too.
It only syncs with Strave, but you can link Strava to other services like Google fit,..etc etc so I don't see this as a big issue.

In the 2nd review you posted, they say "you cannot view GPS data anywhere but on the watch face" Does that means you can not see the map of your run in Strava?

Very informative. Thanks for that. I've taken the plunge and sounds like a lot of watch for the money, typical of all Xiaomi products (using a mi5s to type this and probably the best phone I've had).

I bought one a few months ago after previously having a Sony smartwatch 3 which died when it got wet. I love the amazfit. Battery life is excellent lasts days and days. Screen really easy to see, especially in bright sunlight although back light is a little weak. Straps can easily be unclipped and replaced with other types/colours. Only criticism for me is the charging dock is fiddly. I clip the watch on and have to juggle it around to get it to start charging. A minor issue on an otherwise brilliant watch

I have been tempted to buy this for a while but I ended up buying the Xiaomi mi watch 2 last week, I can't really see how this is worth the extra money apart from being able to leave phone at home? From what I've read most android apps don't work and neither does an pay

I have this watch, paid £82 and have been happy for the last month with it. The Good: - battery life. The GPS and screen are both very energy efficient. 2hrs of running with GPS uses under 10% of battery. You really could track yourself for 36 hours with GPS and pulse etc. Listening to music via bluetooth will drastically reduce it though - GPS tracking, generally its good, maybe not quite as accurate as a TomTom watch I was using before, but close enough to not really matter. - Cadence tracking. I like to see how quick I step and look at the graph afterwards (along with heart rate, speed etc). - Continuous heart rate monitoring, works well. - Phone app and Strava integration. Links up easily and effectively - waterproof. Slightly alarmed to read experience of others above, but I have been surfing without problems with mine. The Bad: - Not a smartwatch. Mine doesn't reliably give me notifications from my Xiaomi redmi note 3 phone. - Screen. Takes a bit of getting used to. Happy enough now, but the contrast is not great and some of the stuff is too small. - GPS countdown. I want to press start and GO, but it gives a 5 second "3, 2, 1, Go" countdown which is annoying at parkrun. - bluetooth music: No playlist options, it will only play uploaded music in a random order. I have tried all the usual renaming tracks tricks. Also much shorter battery life with music (around 25% per hour?) - missing seconds: The watch sleeps after 15 seconds of inactivity and stops showing seconds. Its a nuisance if I want to check a pulse at work, and was something that previously annoyed me about my TomTom watch which has no seconds at all for the watch. Overall a great device. I am hoping my big 3 gripes could be fixed with software: Remove the annoying GPS countdown, show seconds for longer, perhaps 30s instead of 15 and allow music playlists for playing tracks in order.

silly question, but theres a lot of info above about how well it works as a fitness watch etc. does it show phone notifications- such as whatsapp messages, emails, other notifications, fb etc...?

Mine is set to show me notifications, but doesnt usually come through. Occasionally my SMS, whatsapp notifications show on my watch. Checking notifications is a bit fiddly anyway on the watch. Generally a poor experience. Dont buy for notifications, this is a really good GPS watch for running, with good battery and continuous heart rate monitoring (not just when running) and activity tracking.

Does the International version basically mean the watch will be in Chinese? Obviously that is no good to me. Would appreciate some advice. Thanks

International version means it supports English. (maybe other European languages too).
The only other version I'm aware of is Chinese, which only supports Chinese out of the box, but can be flashed with the International firmware to support English.

Can it be changed to Miles and Celsius? Or stuck on Km and Fahrenheit? Also, does the GPS data sync with Strava? Various reviews say it does and doesn't work.

Strava works a treat, every time i open the app on my android phone, it syncs the watch data, and uploads any running or cycling to strava automatically. The phone app allows you to choose between imperial and metric. I think this means that you must have Km and Celsius, or Miles and Fahrenheit. I run and cycle in Km, so suits me perfectly. Anyway, who cares about weather on a watch? The important thing is being able to switch from Miles to KM according to preference, which it does!

Does this support different watch faces? With apps like facr.. I got a Chinese smart watch before for aesthetic reasons and found it only had a couple of pre loaded faces and no added options.

11 Sep 17#25
Lots of different faces - none of them are quite perfect...I just want the most readable face for checking the time... Thankfully when running, the info screen is excellent (except the clock time is tiny) There are also hacks to make your own face, but some of the functionality is missing (can't show seconds) Hopefully we will be able to fully customise faces after some future software update...

Has anybody got their watch dispatched yet since 8th of September? I ordered mine on the 8th and since then its status has been 'processing'. I inquired when they think they would ship it and they gave me an estimate of 11th October and offered that I could choose another item instead if I did not want to wait until then. On the product's page it says: estimated shipping between 17-29th September. Should I wait or cancel the order? Is there a chance that they will restock it or is it out of production?

I ordered on the 8th. I contacted them after a couple of days because my order still showed as processing. They told me that the watch was going to be dispatched on the 14th.
My order still shows as processing today (16th) so I contacted them again. They've now said another 5 to 9 days.
They've already taken payment from my card and won't refund me back. They say i can only have store credit to buy something else. If they were a uk company I would be kicking ass for a refund but they're in China
Long and short of it. I'm going to wait but I will NEVER use them again
