Download app. Register a new account, putting code SC17 in the promotional code box on the form you fill in. This gives you any sandwich as well as a sausage roll, cheese and onion bake, doughnut or cookie. This comes on immediately.

Very soon after the free hot drink comes on (never ending offer for new accounts).

Taken from the website's terms and conditions: "Student Free Lunch

1. The free Greggs Student Lunch Reward (the ‘Reward’) is available to students who register for Greggs Rewards between 5th September 2017 and 15th October 2017 (inclusive) and input the promotional code “Student17” or “SC17” when prompted as part of the registration process (‘Eligible Members’).

2. The Reward must be redeemed within 28 days of the date on which the Eligible Member registered for Greggs Rewards, after which the Reward will expire and will no longer be capable of being redeemed.

3. The Reward entitles an Eligible Member to a free lunch which comprises: Any selected cold sandwich included within the standard Greggs lunch meal deal and ONE of the following: any cookie or any doughnut or a Sausage Roll or a Cheese & Onion Bake.

4. The Reward is not valid in conjunction with any other offer.

5. This Reward has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for any other product or cash.

6. Greggs plc reserves the right to withdraw this Reward at any time.

7. Greggs plc reserves the right to substitute any product within this promotion at its absolute discretion.

8. Greggs Rewards transactions may not be available in all of Greggs franchise outlets, so Eligible Members may not be able to redeem the Reward in a Greggs franchise outlet (for example those operated by Moto, Euro Garages and Applegreen).

9. To redeem the Reward, Eligible Members simply need to select the items that they desire as part of the Reward and tell the Team Member at the Greggs shop that they are redeeming it through Greggs Rewards. Eligible Members will then generate a code (9 digit or QR code) through the Greggs smartphone app and scan in shop. The Reward will be automatically redeemed."

I just tried to redeem this. I'm pretty sure I chose a sandwich on the menu for this offer, not all of them are. At first the guy didn't manage to do it. He brought in his manager, she asked for student ID which I said I don't have but the offer is already on the app. She tried twice then tried to get me to pay for the purchase.

**** GREGGS. This is useless service. I am very disappointed. They don't know how to use the scanners or the tills. I wish you better luck. :imp:

The company was founded and is still based there. It has ta least one branch that's open 24/7.

Won't need any student ID because the cashiers don't know you're redeeming a reward. You just scan your barcode as if you were paying normally and it just doesn't charge you and removes the reward. Thanks for the heads up!

And that's helpful how exactly? Unfortunately my general intellect doesn't allow me to be happy go lucky when all i do is work to pay for somewhere to be whilst not working.
90% of students don't get anything from Uni apart from debt. My Sister studied fine art for 3 year now she's in a call centre.
It's all just about getting through the week so you can party at weekend let's not kid ourselves.
University used to be for the elite minds to further their interests but of course the more people they can in debt the better, So basically everyone can get in now which in turn renders a lot of these qualifications useless.

Student does not always mean taking a full time course, there are thousands of day release or evening courses available and many can be subsidised for low wage earners or unwaged (includes stay at home mums)

I go to my local daily because it is near my school the best way to do this is to put your birthday for tomorrow so the free cake shows up tomorrow you will then have the free cake the free hotdrink and cold drink and the student meal where you can get a sandwich and a sausageroll or another cake :sunglasses:

I got refused, I asked why and was told I didnt resemble a student. I asked what a student looks like and was told well for a start, its too early in the morning I should still be in bed, my hair was kept, I had brushed my teeth, I had just had a shave, I was sober, I had ignored Starbucks next door to go there and I hadnt got my mum or dad to go in and get it for me. Fair enough I said and walked out.

Seems like neither the "SC17" or "Student17" promotional codes are working at the minute, getting the free hot drink, and free cold drink rewards - but nothing else.

EDIT: Just registered through the app instead of the website and it appears to work perfectly.

I've just been to my first Greggs and got a roll, drink and sausage roll and I'm on my way to the second.

remove and reinstalled the app with a different email address and home address as well to be on the safe side, used "SC17" and the free student meal deal is right there in the app.

just hopeful the other two arrive before I get to the next greggs!

Entered the "SC17" code when signing up and recieved the 3 deals on the app.

Went into store 1 showed them the deals before hand and they told me to go ahead and pick the food items for all the deals. Got a sandwich from the £3 deal section, a cheese and onion pasty, a juice drink and a coffee. When the cashier scanned my QR code the two deals for the drinks went through but not the sandwich and pasty. Cashier apologised and said it should work and told me to send an email to Greggs. Repeated the same process and created a new account with same results at Greggs #2.

I got the free cold drink (so got that reward), but baguette AND pasty didn't work...

the app is being weird this morning - it showed zeroes on mine as well but i waited and it came up with the 4 rewards and the front page showed them as well that you could swipe through.

if you tap on 'rewards' though, nothing happens - the page just sticks at the loading screen. i'd ideally like to know what exactly the birthday rewards are before asking for them.

I very much doubt they'd cripple the entire app because people are hammering the code. they'd just invalidate the code

yep, all at once.

kept it simple with a cheese and ham baguette and a fizzy orange. got to the counter and asked for a sausage roll and a doughnut and said "it's all on the app" and the woman said "no problem".

as I said, had to scan it twice but it registered the second time and worked fine.

just re-registered so I can pop in the one on the way home so maybe I'll get lucky again - the free student lunch is up already.

i got the network error when I re-registered but I kept pressing "submit" and it worked. maybe the same theory will apply to the QR code

So It took me 2 attempts at different Greggs to get my free sandwich deal.

1st attempt (in London Blackheath) they claimed I misunderstood the deal and that actually it's just that you get a free donut or sausage roll after showing your student ID with a meal deal. They didn't scan the app and I got the a free donut after paying for the £3 sandwich deal.

My 2nd attempt (in London Bermondsey)they also stated I misunderstood and that it worked the same way as attempt 1. Picked my sandwich, drink & donut and then went to pay and scanned my phone. After a few scan attempts eventually the manager changed her tune and told me the sandwich & donut's free but not the drink. I eventually got the sandwich deal free and removed from my app & just paid for the drink. I was asked to present student ID for this but I have a 3 year NUS still valid; not in uni anymore.

Seems there's a lot of misunderstanding in how this works with Greggs staff, can be annoying to redeem these deals.

well crisps aren't part of the deal and i'd wager you probably didn't get a greggs-branded drink either. the free drink code has seemingly been pulled, so you can't even get a greggs-branded drink anyway.

i've only ever stuck to the ham and cheese baguettes or the cheese salad ones - basically anything on the shelf that has the red sticker "part of meal deal". i've asked at the counter for a sausage roll as well and told them it's on the app because i've had the QR code open and ready to go.

I've even asked for the birthday doughnut as well and just held the app up to the scanner and i haven't had a problem so far.

I'm going back one more time tomorrow to the last greggs in the area but I don't anticipate any trouble.

All these free deals are too much for most of the staff even the managers. It just draws attention to yourself. Others have to interfere too. Today in Chester I asked the girl what the students meal deal was. She said sandwich , sausage roll and a drink . Oh good thought I and turned the offer off for the free cold drink on my phone.

When it comes to scanning my app she says £1.30 for the drink. I said you just said the drink was included. Oh no apparently there are two student meal deals ( scratches head) and the one that s free doesn t include a drink. Huh.

The reason it's not working for half of you is because you're putting other things in the transaction. In the whole transaction you need- 1x sandwich (less than £3, part of meal deal), 1x sausage roll/donut/cookie or whatever. And that's it- don't add anything else. Buy your drink in a separate transaction! :smiley_cat:

never been asked for any ID at any point. Just hit my 4th one of the day as well.

it would have been 5 but one of them I went in said that their servers had just gone down and they couldn't scan it - tried a couple of times and it apparently kept saying something like "can't scan the offer"

I thought this was rather suspicious because I'd literally just done the one down the road not 5 minutes earlier and it went through.

came out and fired up my VPN to re-register and went into the last one that was in the shopping centre and it worked fine.

probably was more of a local issue rather than network I suppose, although I did wonder if it had blocked my phone's IP address though.

that's me done though. I've been to every greggs in the area so I'm certainly not going to go in each one for a second time.

This is purely conjecture... But in my app, tapping the QR code makes it refresh, BUT it actually just cycles 3 potential numbers.
Screenshotting these 3 codes may mean you can use all 3, meaning you'll get 3 offers from each account? :grin:

I was wondering this exact thing today. After i've asked for my sausage roll, they'll ask me if i want a drink and I always say "no thanks, doing it all from the app" or words to that effect.

They tap a few buttons, tell me to hold my phone up to the scanner and that's it.

I can see how some random, middle aged bloke going in to Greggs saying "'scuse me, are you doing the free student meal offer love?" could ring a few alarm bells :grin:

well I've just done another one at a place I visited on Monday. she tried to charge me for the doughnut but I said "sorry, it's supposed to all be off the app" so she re-did it and I re-scanned it and it went through.

problem was, the girl wasn't sure how to - I think - complete the transaction so she called someone else over who did something and crashed the till :smile:

huge queue quickly formed outside and I was standing there saying "can I go? you said it went through" and eventually they said yes.

and the queue was even bigger by that point!

Found this on greggs twitter page, read the last reply from greggs, they saying "...when you buy a sandwich deal (selected sandwich and drink) and you'll get a free cookie, doughnut, sausage roll, c+o bake or snack pack!"
So is that why it worked yesterday with a cold drink but today not working without a cold drink?

try deleting and re-installing the app and try again.

the free student meal offer "officially" expires on the 12th of October so it's actually live for 4 more weeks, but I suppose they could potentially take it down between now and then if they feel they've given out too many.

I'm just getting the meal offer and birthday doughnut each day at the moment and just the meal if i do a second run - no cold drink.

I assume it was the manageress who came over, then went into full detail of what I could get (sounded like a banquet, you can have, this, this & that or this, this & that, or this, this & that)
then went into detail on how to use the offer, stating to turn off which ever rewards you are not using when you scan your phone bar code.
also pointing out be sure to use these offers before they expire
no questions asked about id/student stuff either

definitely think some of these places are set up differently to others. just been in one and got the baguette and asked for the sausage roll and doughnut and whether or not it was something they did or not but it put the baguette and doughnut through as the meal deal and ignored the sausage roll, which I left.

we'll see what happens in the next one

Just a heads up, you can set the birthday treat as the same day as the day you register, you don't have to wait one day. The trick is that you have to make the account after midnight or in the early hours. It might take a short while but the birthday treat will appear a while later or go to sleep and wake up and it will be there.

yep, I picked up the same three items I always have done this past week - I even showed her the offer page that confirmed the roll and sausage roll from the meal deal and the birthday doughnut.

she kept insisting that it had gone through as a roll and doughnut and that the sausage roll was separate. i suppose the person who rang it up may well have made a mistake though

This is untrue. You can redeem more than one reward at once, the app even lets you toggle on and off the ones you want to use

remember though you can add PayPal/CC details to the app and actually pay using the app, so all you have to say at the till is 'I'd like to pay using the app' then you scan, and all the offers are applied. Don't complicate things by mentioning a free this and a free that, just say 'I'd like to pay using the app' and then scan it. The till then does the rest.

I remember I was told off once, when I had free crisps and probably some sweet treat on my app. I scanned them separately and the lady at the till said to use all offers together next time as it prevents queues. So the staff at your branch was lying when she said you couldn't use them all.

Yeah I've read the T&Cs, but it isn't showing up in the account, just the two drinks rewards. You might want to read between the lines when you copy and paste a response to other people. Clearly, I've attempted to get the deal, and it hasn't worked, regardless as to the conditions stated.
