I'm still on the fence with this. For some unknown reason, I really want one of these. But I know full well I'll only play about 4 games on it. Not stopped my interest for the last 4 years though.

I have the basic. It's not a major player in the house in terms of gaming hours, but it's handy for the kids to use whilst the main TV is being used. I'll have some occasional time with Mario games or Zelda, but other than that the 2DS takes priority on the Nintendo devices.

Oh  Awks.
I meant for me. They don't get their hands on the 2DS.

Bought one recently. Me and the kids enjoy it, I am trying to work through the Zeldas and the kids love Mario Kart (which happened to come pre-installed on the boxless Premium I bought from CEX). The main controller looks huge but it is surprisingly comfortable, and being able to play remotely on the controller (within limited range of the console) is a great feature.

Will have to see the current state of soft modding on these. See if its worth replacing the Wii at all.

Fully open, including downloading all titles from Nintendo's own servers
The Wii U can be soft modded now? Wow, thanks for the heads up, or should I say headache as I was gonna sell the thing to pay towards a Switch. Looks like there's life in the old dog yet, what cfw would you recommend?

Whoa, I'm really out of touch with the scene at the moment. Will investigate. If it can replace my Wii, and do everything my Wii can...then I'll bite. Thanks!
The modded WiiU experience is not totally slick yet but is working fine. To be honest I have now left the WiiU alone but have fully modded the vWii side of things so I don't need to have both consoles attached to my TV. WiiU does not support Gamecube out of the box so modding vWii was essential for that alone. We still love a bit Mario Kart DD in our house!
So yes a modded WiiU can 100% replace a Wii - even if you decide to leave the WiiU side alone and go legit for a while.

Very good indeed. I've got a soft-modded one with a selection of Wii U / Wii / Gamecube / SNES games on - it's probably the best home console for retro gaming IMO, it will play anything (including PSX if you don't mind fiddling with the controls for pretty much every game) with full compatibility except DC and N64, which very few devices will play to any reliable level.

Very easy to do, bought mine a couple of weeks back when i realised it could be modded, hour or so later and i had a hd full of games installed, in fact easiest console to mod ever i think!

We love ours!! Kids use it for Netflix, mario kart and just dance. Plus you can use the Wii remotes that are pennies to buy.

Used Wii U controllers are pretty minging and of course new ones are very expensive.
I've a criminally underused Zelda edition Wii U in perfect condition - need to sell that. So tempted by the switch, but I know it'll get dropped in a couple of years. Similarly, my OLED vita is just sitting unloved now. I need to control my spedning *browses hukd some more*

Tempted to get another one now, as a backup to the one my son plays almost every day. I could then hack the Game version and not be worried it gets broken whilst reboxing my old premium Wii U.

The modding scene is easy and there is almost an impossible brick level so no need to worry there.
Also these games combined cost almost £45 pounds together second hand. This deal is quite hot.
