I know you can get console and game cheaper if bought separately. But the RRP seems decent for limited edition console. May not appeal to everyone here but could be helpful to collectors

Nice bundle but it should be 299 really

I want the red joy con so bad though haha

I just noticed that... The thin skinned "powers that be" deleted my earlier comment. Maybe because I mentioned the word "retard" in it. Should just have said Nintendard...

Maybe I stated a fundamental truth. Or maybe I held up a mirror, and Nintendo fans didn't like what they saw...

A case of feelings over facts.

Free speech at HUKD is now a thing of the past in the instance Nintendo is being discussed. A site moderator has created a 'safe space' here for thin-skinned Nintendo cheerleaders by placing the comments of non-fanatics on moderator approval.

I think you'll find I was talking about last gen size as in 32 gig but it's ok just dive in with your ickle size fives because it suits your cause :unamused: am I right in assuming you are an ickle person that has ickle hands and little legs with a rather big attitude?

I partially agree, but nintendo can be inconsistent, the 3ds did actually fall, the wii u didn't. There's also nintendo select titles that can be gotten for less, but a lot of their games hold a high value.

Hi. I'm not interested in this deal but I just wanted to post to say that anyone who is interested must be stupid as that doesn't agree with my opinion.
Also Nintendo are doomed, the Gamecube is the end.
Also, anyone who disagrees with me is a Trump supporting, fanboy snowflake.

I think a contributing factor is the development of the mobile market which has been booming. We have new phones and tablets with updated CPUs each year so in comparison it could look like the switch is behind in both mobile tech and as a home console. We also don't know if the switch will reduce in price over time to be more competitive while other platforms do.
Chasloyal
20 Sep 17 #120
Might as well blame Trump and Brexit too if you're going to put it on 2K :unamused:

It's not down to 2K to bail Nintendo out for choosing cartridges over discs and putting last gen storage in a current gen machine.

Got these for £4.99 on eBay and my Switch looks like this 'limited edition' but with extra protection. Got the Switch for £250 from Tesco so I have around £70 to buy Super Mario Odyssey.

Nintendo actually have 32GB game cartridges available for developers but they cost more money for the the developers to store games on. 2K could have chosen to use even the 16gb carts but instead, they chose 8gb ones to maximise their profits. Had they chosen the 32gb cart, NBA 2k18 wouldn’t have required that micro SD card.

Nintendo needs to get those 32gb game cartridges down in price and then this won’t even be an issue so long as the developers make sure they use them. The blame for NBA 2K18 needing that SD card lies with both Nintendo and 2K Games. Both need to sort the issues out by the time the next game releases. (If this one even sells enough to warrant another.)

Google 'festplatte'

What, you didn't just compare SD cards required by the Switch to memory cards required to save games in the old days, on systems like say the PS one then?

With experience you improve on whatever you do and thus I am very flattered you complimented me on how good I am but one: I'm taken already and two: I don't think you're my type even if I wasn't.

Fear not though as flattery will get you far, just keep searching for 'the one' flower :relaxed:

So the "tech offered" by Sony and Microsoft was "representative for the level of tech offered" by Sony and Microsoft. Okaaaay...

Only joking! Yes, of course Switch is overpriced for what it is but your previous point about its "level of tech" being 2 years' outdated at launch could, as I said, also be applied to PS4 and Xbox One.
rofflespoffle
20 Sep 17 #115
Is slang, slang for wrong in this context?

I didn't compare it to a PS one either. You did that thing again where you change what I've wrote, then argue against that. You're really good at doing that. You must have loads of experience doing it.
prankster101
20 Sep 17 #114
The price was representative for the level of tech offered... And there were certain bargains to be had 6 months later. In other words: The price actually went down towards Xmas, not up, like it's the case here for the Switch.
Chasloyal
20 Sep 17 #113
So you're comparing the Switch's storage to the PS one now

And if you can't work out what plate is slang for then you must be the sort of person who uses game consoles' lack of storage two decades ago as a way of justifying the Switch not having any internal storage now, oh hang on

What's a 2TB plate?

As for needing a memory card, I really can't see the big deal. You can get 64GB cards for really cheap. It's a big non issue for the most part. It's much better than it was in the past with things like memory cards being required just to save game progress.

Not sure I'm cherry picking anything, stating there are going to be bundles of games on the Switch you won't be able to play without buying some monkey memory card. That's not even criticising the system's guts as such, it's merely emphasising how scratchy Nintendo have been on what they put inside it, which of course Nintenuts refuse to accept as a fair comment.

I didn't have to put a 2TB plate in my PS4 when I bought it three years ago but I did because it was a logical thing to do knowing it was only a matter of time till I filled it up.

So I'm sorry but we can argue about what size memory card to buy for it till the cows come home but just answer me a couple of simple questions:

Will you need to buy additional external memory to play a whole host of Switch games, yes or no?

Can you name any Xbone or PS4 titles that require people to spend money on additional external memory to play them on either of those platforms?

I own a collection of 140 Amiibo so I'm in no position to comment on that one :joy:

I’ve never played a Zelda game. Keep thinking about trying it on Switch but with the games coming to PS4 over the next few months, I just won’t have the time to play it. Thinking of buying it when there is a quiet period next year.

The Rabbids game is a bit repetitive in the beginning while it eases you in but does add a bit of variety in later levels with new battle types (escorting toad is annoying mind) and the difficulty increases too. Definitely give it another go and see if it manages to pull you in.

Not sure I suggested otherwise that you need to expand the storage with an SD card IF you buy NBA 2K18. (Doom is another if you wish to use multiplayer on it) In fact, I’m pretty sure I have also stated that 32gb simply wasn’t enough too.

You can keep choosing to cherry pick arguments with myself until you’re blue in the face, Chas, but a “Nintenut” I frankly am not. Most of my gaming is done on PC and PS4.

The interwebs is awash with 'diehard' Nintenuts showing off their ownership of every single Amiibo out there which I believe totals in excess of 150 now. Not only one of each either because in many cases times it by two as they buy one to open up for DLC and buy another they keep in mint packaging for collecting so I'm sorry but you're talking straight out of your Harris

Also I'm not really sure where you're getting this thing from that I have issues with the Switch itself? Erm you'll find my issues are with Nintenuts that froth at the gob like a rabid dog when you point out obvious shortcomings with the system which obviously stem from Nintendo boardroom decisions.

I criticise all three console manufacturers but 90% of the time it's only the Nintenuts that go to cyber war with you about it as you repeatedly keep demonstrating in this very thread

Lol, I've had Mario Rabbids from release but maybe I haven't given it a chance then. Seemed too repetitive for me to get interested in. I just want Toejam and Earl to hurry up as I could play that for hours back in the day. Zelda is amazing but because it's on the Wii U I don't even count it as a reason to buy the Switch.

You’re not allowed to talk sense in here, Johnny.

Definitely agree that this isn’t a collector’s item. Those Joycons are definitely going to end up being sold separately as you say. Might be wise to preorder this as a back up only but most definitely go with a standard Switch over this and a physical copy of the game.

It was Mario+Rabbids that caught me by surprise and pushed me to buy a Switch. Mario Odyssey would have been that game to push me if it hadn’t I think. I bought Mario Kart 8 too which does look a bit better but not by much. I’m happy enough with it thus far and with the future games coming. We’ll see how that goes come next year though as Nintendo still needs to show they can keep this momentum going with third party support.

I'm gonna jump in here just for a laugh. I'm a Nintendo fan dated back to the NES and Gameboy. I can agree on both sides of the fence in here tbh. This most definitely isn't a collectors item and it's as limited as a standard Nintendo Switch is. They will bring out the joy-cons separately as they've done with all the others.

The Nintendo Switch however in my opinion is just a carbon copy of the Wii U, with the added facility to use as a handheld away from your home. The Wii U had extremely poor marketing leaving it to die a death that it probably didn't deserve.

Mario Odyssey is the only reason for people to buy a Nintendo Switch to date. As an owner of the Switch I can say that it isn't worth the money that it currently sells for. Not a chance, however I've got it now and am happy this game is coming out soon. Maybe it will change my mind....

People buy consoles for games. I bought a switch for Nintendo specific games. So how it stacks next to a PS4 or Xbox one is completely irrelevant because I want to play Zelda, Mario Kart and so on.

By your logic though, both the PS4 pro and Xbox One X are old hardware past their sell by date. My PC kicks the crap out of both of them.

But you know what my PC doesn't do? It doesn't play the whole Halo collection or Sony first party games. So stop talking crap and get over yourself.

20 Sep 17 #85
They’re pointless DLC to me (mine came free) and collectables to you. Does it have to be one or the other or can we not have our own opinions on Amiibo? Does everyone have to have the same opinion as yourself on everything?

Yep, 32GB of onboard memory isn’t enough these days if you want to go all digital. Shall we stick to facts though (as I have throughout while you name called and brought Amiibo into this for some reason), rather than ridiculous hyperbole that could worry parents and cause them to overspend on a micro sd card? It’s not every game that requires an SD card and LA Noire shouldn’t need an SD card considering it’s only 13gb on PC right now and that’s the version being ported to Switch. NBA will require one. It will be 22.6GB in size on Switch. Hardly means spending £130 on a 256GB micro SD card, does it? A 128gb micro SD card will be sufficient at £40. None of the Nintendo titles and the majority of third party games don’t need an SD card. Mario in this bundle will need under 6gb.
Chasloyal
20 Sep 17 #84
You buy a solitary one because you consider them pointless DLC whilst I buy every single one because I see them as collectibles, so what are they?

I suppose not buying any Amiibo means you've saved the 130 quid you need to get a decent 256GB micro xdsc Sandisk so you'll at least be able to play LA Noir and the latest instalment of that basketball franchise abortion  blimey Joe and Joanne Average are in for a shock when they buy young Tyrone a Switch with Mario and NBA for Christmas only to find out he can't play pony basketball because it requires a memory card they knew nothing about :astonished:

I know that this edition is supposed to be "limited", but given how much the Scorpio X is retailing for, I can't see how Nintendo are going to be able to maintain their sales momentum going into 2018.

If Nintendo wanted to actually be competitive, they would have dropped the price to counter whatever moves Sony and MS are making. Instead, they've just buried their head in the sand and fcuked their fans over even more.

Of course, there will always be a few Nintendo fans who will support anything that the company does, but I am so glad that the industry is no longer beholden to their antiquated practices.

The X is about £450. The S is about £100. The PS4/Pro is dominating the market...

Games can be had for about £15-20...

The Switch is still about £300? And what do you get for that £300? Out-dated tech that reached its sell-by date 2 years ago.

How much are Switch games? £40-60 still? Do they provide 2-4 times as much enjoyment as what a typical XB1/PS4 game costs?

I can definitely see sales taking a nose-dive if Nintendo keep up their price-gouging tactics. Especially around peak selling periods like Xmas...

"But do the MS and Sony consoles have Zelda? Can you play on the go with those machines?"

Going forward (and into 2018), does the market even sufficiently care enough to respond to those questions?

It actually makes you a xxxx, being a xxxx is an essential requirement to be a Nintendo fan unfortunately. I got no time for fans of any specific platform but Nintendo fans are the most despicable........soaring heat of 500 for a rip off priced Switch is testament to how unhinged your posse are.

I don't think I have ever used any of my Amiibo for DLC and I own 140 plus of them you know, in fact up that to way in excess of 150 if you include duplicates and damages

Does owning 150 odd Amiibo seem consistent with someone who has a 'silly vendetta against Nintendo' then? I think not, but had you added the word 'fans' after Nintendo then you'd have hit the nail bang on the head because it's the rabid deranged Nintenuts, of which you are very much one, that I take issue with rather than the company/platform.

Absolute comedy gold for you to be having a sly dig at something many see as collectible figures being a DLC scam yet I got this hunch you'd not make a squeak about Nintendo being that scratchy with the Switch's memory that anyone wanting to buy any third party AAA game needs to buy a micro SD card to be able to actually play them.To me that's a far bigger pxxx take than unlocking optional game content by virtue of buying a plastic toy, but of course Nintendo fans will still choose to defend the indefensible

WAT? NFC chips are a dime a dozen. Nothing special about them at all. And it's not like we have a plastic shortage.
Nintendo could make hundreds of millions of these no problem. It's just a little side venture for them and they don't seem to care much. Just like the NES mini and such. It's just a basic android tv box chipset with a custom shell and OS. They could make tons of them too but again they don't seem to care. Maybe they like hearing OOS everywhere.

20 Sep 17 #74
With Switches popping up for £255-270. And Mario Odyssey being £30-40. The case is nothing special, I got it bundled with Zelda at launch for £37, I'd say it's worth a fiver. This doesn't seem much of a deal. If you really REALLY want red joycons you can buy a pair of red joycon shells for about £6 on ebay.

19 Sep 17 #71
Chas, you need to let this silly vendetta against Nintendo go. It’s silly how annoyed you get by anyone who points out anything that disagrees with your latest conspiracy theories.

The more Nintendo manufactures, the cheaper the parts become, the greater their profits. The Wii U stayed high in price just as all their other consoles prior to that. Nintendo control their pricing. They don’t cut the price unless they have to. So, why would they want to lose more money by creating shortages to increase demand... which they won’t be fulfilling anyway. It’s so illogical and nothing to do with being the “Joseph Goeballs of HUKD”.

I suppose Sony was deliberately short supplying PSVR and the PS4 Pro when they were sold out for months? Of course they wasn’t. Manufacturing lines aren’t unlimited. Nintendo had to compete with Apple and it affected their supply. That is a fact whether you wish to tell yourself otherwise or not. gamesindustry.biz/art…ion

Also, why would third parties be increasing their support for the console when Nintendo won’t manufacture the damn things. No point if their software won’t sell, is there?

I will happily praise or call out the faults of the big three for what it’s worth. I’m not into silly fanboy wars.

I never get why people vote hot on this sort of stuff other than fanboyism. It's more expensive than getting both when on deal, especially with only a digital game. Don't get me wrong, digital isn't entirely bad, but when you're paying full price and just giving up resale value then it's taking the mick. That's assuming you'd be able to transfer it across at least another switch should your unit need replacing or upgrading to a later new model. I have two switches. I have every apple iphone, most laptop and desktop models. However the phenomenon of apple and nintendo fanboys continues to astound and disgust me quite frankly. I truly and genuinely believe at this stage its like a religious ideology. As soon as you say the slightest criticism of these companies and their products these people will interject, chime in and start patronising you in a condescending manner. The tragic thing is these saddos don't realise these two are some of the most cutthroat and vicious companies who wouldn't urinate on them or their loyalty if they were on fire. Like you said, you can be a fan of the products whilst being open to criticism. I genuinely believe some nintendo and apple fans are horrible people worse than nazis. Sounds harsh but that's how I feel. Because I have a very low tolerance for their BS.

Exactly! Some seem to forget that you can be a Nintendo fan but also call them out over their BS. Doubt it very much, huge component shortages coupled with massive global demand will drive up prices. I'd be surprised if they are south of £500 by December.

Personal view regards physical vs digital I think digital is a good way of sometimes getting cheaper games after a while on a sale, and theres more digital/indie only games appearing at reasonable prices which without the media we probably wouldn't see BUT aaa titles like mario isn't gonna drop in price at all for years physical or digital and it's those games worth having physical even for collector purposes.

19 Sep 17 #53
I wonder if that is true for Rayman Legends, that game is very highly compressed and takes longer to load than even the wii u version and suffers from compression artifacts on some graphics and slowdown on Switch. I wonder if the cartridge compression will be as bad as the digital release it could actually load faster based on the digital version being 2.9GB and the cartridge version likely using a 4GB cartridge.

I've not voted either way but would have voted hot if it was a physical version of Mario Odyssey.
Zerobob
19 Sep 17 #52
He was referring to the fact games load slightly faster if downloaded to the Switch internal memory, rather than running from a cartridge. Digital Foundary did a good analysis on it, although the difference was literally a few seconds, so it really is a complete non-issue.

Is it gold leaf? :joy: I would have thought it would cost Nintendo exactly the same no matter what colour the joy-cons are and the box art would cost the same to print also. Digital is also cheaper than producing a cartridge and box art. I'd love to know how you believe less is worth more hahaha

The box arts and red joycons are worth more than a couple of quid tbh..

It's fair that some people prefer the physical copy for the resale value so this bundle is not for them.. but many of us who want to go digital (especially for Odyssey) and the digital version of the game is rarely discounted if at all..

Load times aren't really a noticeable factor with Cartridges. That is a disc read speed issue.
Istanbul_Kop
19 Sep 17 #46
Yeah, some games are definitely keepers. But are you going to be able to actually keep them digitally? Yes, until the powers that be say you can't. And that's the problem with digital. You're at the whim of the publishers and service providers.

I'm far happier with a physical version knowing I'll be able to play it in 20 years, just like I do with my NES and SNES cartridges now.
Biddy2
19 Sep 17 #45
This old chestnut again. :joy:

It hurts Nintendo to have short supplies. It doesn’t help to keep the prices high and instead means they bring in less profit and potentially lose customers. The Switch is in short supply because Apple have been taking the supply of components that Nintendo needed.
jaked68

Website says carry case included.
thebox
19 Sep 17 #43
There's no way it's worth £19.99. It's just another example of rip off Britain!
thebox
19 Sep 17 #42
The UK doesn't get the carry case included like the rest of the world so I'm not buying it out of principle. And they have the cheek to sell it separately for £19.99!
sibeer
19 Sep 17 #41
I had been waiting for a Mario SE console and a deal price. Think I will just get the best I can on Black Friday now though as the switch has already been £251 and the game under £40 so this is a £30 premium for a non-physical copy of the game and red controllers, what a let down.
2minutenoodles
19 Sep 17 #40
Hot but this 'edition' is less special than if you were to have a Physical copy of the game. You get red Joy-Cons which is something but they don't speak Mario to me. Obviously a ploy while the console is in high demand to profit further on a digital bundle. When supply isn't an issue I expect a decent and genuinely limited release like other Nintendo products. Maybe a Pokémon edition.
magicpork
19 Sep 17 #26
Voted hot.. it's a reasonable bundle and £10 off buying them separately is good enough... can't wait to play Odyssey.
mudstuff to magicpork
19 Sep 17 #28
Eh? Switch has been £255 this week and Mario Odyssey can be had for under £40. You're paying £25 more for some box art, red joy-cons and a digital download
magicpork to mudstuff
19 Sep 17 #36
Sadly these discount codes are no longer available and there's no guarantee they'll return so as of now this is the cheapest you can get for Switch+Odyssey hence the hot vote
mudstuff to magicpork
19 Sep 17 #39
The codes only expired on Sunday. Plus it's still a couple of quid cheaper to buy a Switch and a separate physical copy of Mario Odyssey if being pedantic

Retro_Goonie
19 Sep 17 #34
The Mario bundle was gonna be my jumping on point for the switch. Just gonna go the normal route now and avoid this cash grab from Nintendo!
damo75
19 Sep 17 #32
They are never in short supply that is merely a marketing tool to sell consoles and keep the price up, don't forget heavy competition is just around the corner from xbox and Playstation.
migavupe to damo75
19 Sep 17 #33
How so? The Xbox one x is very expensive and the people looking to buy a switch won't be persuaded to go for that and what do Sony have that isn't already out?
damo75
19 Sep 17 #29
This sort of bundle will be around the £250-£270 mark pre Xmas, so I'd wait a couple of months.
Spikecast to damo75
19 Sep 17 #31
No it really won't. They will be in shorter supply as christmas approaches. They don't need to sell them at a loss.
NaughtyDog
19 Sep 17 #23
I have to echo the sentiments above. I'm sad that Nintendo made a console of such great potential, then proceeded to shaft their loyal fan base left, right and centre. They had a chance to really come back with a bang, but with pricing like this will fizzle out with a whimper... :kissing_heart:
pazuzu17 to NaughtyDog
19 Sep 17 #25
You must be joking, right?

"Shaft their loyal base" is the overstatement of the decade. What are we talking here, no physical copy, not literally 'limited edition'...ok, but we are still getting what is a neat new Nintendo console and potential GOTY bundled in a package which would be cheaper buying each separately. Some may see that as a plus.
MadonnaProject to NaughtyDog
19 Sep 17 #30
Careful. You seriously triggered a nintendo fanboy. Now you'll have to look behind your back for the day. Listen out for heavy mouth breathing. The halitosis should give it away when they're near.
mudstuff
19 Sep 17 #27
Not voted, I really wanted a bundle with Mario Odyssey but got the amazon switch deal instead after seeing how lazy the bundle was and that the game wasn't physical. I'd rather save the £25 or so and have a physical copy
pazuzu17
19 Sep 17 #24
People can be such cynics...

Yes, some will look on the fact a digital only game will have no resale value, but this is Mario Odyssey we are talking about here, which maniac is already considering selling said game? Some games are keepers - I'm sure this will be one of them. Besides, who bought Sonic Mania without a thought for resale value...me for one. Also load times tend to be generally better installed rather than running from the cartridge, just a consideration.
JohnnyRoller
19 Sep 17 #22
I'm guessing there's loads of people who have been waiting for Mario Odyssey to be released before buying the Switch. So this will clearly be of interest to them.

In my opinion though Nintendo make rubbish Limited/Special edition consoles now compared to the N64 and Gameboys etc.

I'm not certain if the discount codes are still working but £254.99 for a Switch without red joy-cons. About £37 for Mario Odyssey. With what is roughly £30 saving you can almost buy a Pro controller which is a must if using it in dock mode.
Gorskar
19 Sep 17 #21
£40 more than the RRP of a base console for a digital game with no resale value. Whilst it may be true that collectors editions in general hold value better that will not be true for versions with digital content (which has zero resale value)
Just buy a base console and Mario separately, at least the physical Mario game will have resale value.

So I'm going to have to vote cold.
prankster101
19 Sep 17 #16
Nihir... I know that you normally outline some really good deals on here. But I can't condone this - if only because the Switch and its entire ecosystem screams "rip off". £300+ for a "current" system and game, that's already showing signs of being behind the times, and I can't see how anyone can see it as being a good deal (apart from Nintendo fans who rather moronically end up cheering anything with a Nintendo logo on it).

It's £10 cheaper than on the Nintendo website so hot.
In other regions you get a mario carry case included in the bundle.
In the UK you can buy the case septately for £19.99.

Knives_OuT to Richard_Richard
19 Sep 17 #12
I think I agree there! I was nearly enticed by it when I first saw it but then I looked at the product carefully and thought:

'So the Joy-Cons are 'red';they're OK. But you don't get the physical copy of the came so out of the 32GB that the console comes with... how much would I have left to use?'

Also, I'm sure Nintendo will end up releasing the red Joy-Cons separately eventually.
