The Dacia Sandero is one of the cheapest cars currently on sale in the UK, the Sandero offers excellent value for money. A recent facelift also brings plenty of small improvements, meaning you really do get a lot of car for not much of an outlay.
The range starts at under £6,000, which is seriously cheap for a brand new car. However the entry-level Access version does have 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit with 74bhp. Spend a little more on a higher-spec Sandero though and you'll get plenty of extra kit and a punchy petrol turbo, or a very efficient diesel.

Do ANY actually sell at this price / spec or is it a pure pull in the punters & then upsell 'extras' you'd expect to be standard?

I'd say the majority of used Sanderos' I've seen on AutoTrader are base model. I was surprised about how slowly they depreciate, considering.

That was where I looked, not savvy with the specs but with the cheapest being 4 years old and still £3.5k I figured it must've started out higher then £6k (as it would drop to £4.8 almost immediately due to the VAT. Impressive residuals to be fair (It's not like there's much to lose to begin with anyway)

Bought mine 4 weeks ago, got it for £5500 as bristol street were doing a £500 off deal that weekend....
So here are my thoughts as an owner of the base model.... 35 years driving , 20 odd cars and a professional driver for 20 years.....
1) Engine ( 1 litre 3cyl) is a peach.... as a biker of many years have owed a few triples I can attest to 3 cylinders being very torque y  very nippy round town and enough ooph to overtake , not a porsche but its fine.
2) Fuel ...... I used to put £55 in my old C-Max which would just last the month , I filled her up 2 weeks ago (£45) and she has just used a quarter of a tank, I have been taking it easy and changing gear using the eco change thingy but high 60mpg mostly around town.....gobsmacked to tell the truth..
3) I am with James May , its a great car to drive.. anyone coming from a older car will be impressed..
4) Warranty and breakdown cover included and no MOTs for at least 3 years all for £81 pm, added service plan for £11 per month..... whats not to like..
OK downsides
1) No stereo.... I like my sounds so bought a nice double din system with speakers for about £200 fitted. (Dacias is £300 odd for a standard system)
2) No air con, not worked on my last 3 SH cars so not a biggy....
3) No leccy windows, I dont actually mind this as I was always switching the engine off before doing the windows .....DOH...
4) No central locking, again not a biggy as I mostly use it as a work car or shopping...so on my todd
The only thing that is a pain is you cant push the lock down on the doors to lock them from the outside which means when you have passengers you have to lock then all from the inside

A couple year back we were looking at buying a few different cars, this was one we queried.
We got a reply, stating it wasn't available, despite being in their site at the time. We were offered higher priced models and they requested our contact details. It's just the usual sales rubbish, an attempt to upsell

Well one of you is lying as plenty of people have bought them with no problems, go read Dacia Forum, and they all love them. This car now comes with 1 litre engine wich is better than the original 1.2 and so is a deal as no price increase for a better mover.

We picked up a 2013 Stepway Laureate for £4.7K last month which is the most I've ever spent on a car funnily enough. Very happy with it. You wouldn't think the engine is 0.9L!

That is a good price, most of the ones I have seen in Autotrader are above 6 grand

I've seen them for 5.5k, this one was s private seller advertised at 5.2 but it had a small parking dent on the drivers door.

Basicaly the same car with a slight increase in ride hight and higher trim spec for a bit more money. People these days seem to like a higher driving position, me included, so best to go see and judge for yourself.

Yes, had one as a company supplied vehicle.
This was while working in Johannesburg this year.
0.9L Turbo engine is decent if you keep the revs up. It can catch you out if not in a low gear and will feel slug like. Keep it on the boil and it feels more like a 1.4L engine.
Up front it's not too bad, the electric window buttons are bloody annoying in the middle of the car. The rear is a very uncomfortable place for adults.
I can't say I'd want to buy one but they are just basic transport at the end of the day.
From a personal point of view, I'd probably go with something used that's Korean.

I've had the Access for 2.5 years and its very good. As for no speakers, i use a Bluetooth speaker (£20+) and my phone and it's perfect, it's all you need.

Ralph Ineson. Been in a lot of things over the years but for me best known as Finchy in The office. His voice is very distinctive but can grate.

The guy on the Dacia adds also narrates Drew Pritchards show Salvage Hunters on Quest, and the show would not be the same without him.
I am generally not a fan of new cars unless you are running a business making profits which you want to offset against tax.
However anyone looking to purchase a second hand car, a new Dacia is well worth looking into for the money.
Having said that, you are supposed to be able to get second hand Nissen Leafs for around this money. Though I am not sure if that includes the batteries, as they are often leased.

Great value for money. Much better than paying £6k for a 2 year lease and handing it back and owning nothing at the end of it.

I'm no fan of lease cars. I have one through work at 30k miles pa however but only because it is no bother and they pay for everything. But comparing this to what you'd get for £6k over two years on sensible miles is madness. That is A4/C class/3 series territory.
This is an obviously very basic car. You don't want to take long journeys in it if you even expect a bit of comfort. Has similar kit to an early/mid 2000s small euro hatchback.

I drive a 2014 model in this with the 1.2 engine. Never let me down and it is very similar to the Renault Clio. I've had it 3 years from new, done about 33,000 miles with out ever having any issues. Excellent small runner. But the back leg room is very small I would say.
