Thanks will buy my Fuel here next week , although I found this promotion very disappointing last time (ended up with mainly 200 points each time) compared to what it used .

They seem to have made more prizes available this time around

32113737-NOGsE.jpg
They've either made a typo in this years T&Cs and mistakenly used the same number for 2000 and 5000 prizes or they've massively increased the number of 5000 pointers.

I've cancelled my Nectar card since they partnered with the Daily Mail.

Worth noting that by using Nectar, as well as indirectly helping out the Daily Mail, you are also seemingly giving Nectar permission to share your data with them. There isn't a building big enough to write the 'no' from me on the side of.

Nectar has publicly stated that will only share your information with the Daily Mail if you create a mail account and link it to your nectar card.
BristolBillyBob to aau1

Interesting. Do you have a link to that? A Google of "nectar daily mail data sharing" doesn't throw up anything as far as I can tell.

28 Sep 17 #21
Check out facebook.com/nec…706

There is a reply from Nectar on the above facebook post that says:

"Hi Joe, we will only share data with the Daily Mail if your Nectar Card is linked to a MyMail account."
BristolBillyBob to aau1
28 Sep 17 #23
OK, thanks for posting that.

If it were my only concern, I'd need to be more convinced by something a little more official than a social media PR team member replying to a Facebook post, given their T&Cs. But fair enough. My other point still stands and the relationship between the two companies is plenty reason enough for me.

because those stores have higher overheads making each transaction less profitable for Sainsburys

Amazing in this day and age that so many of their petrol stations are excluded from the promotion.

They explained last time they ran this promotion that it's due to IT limitations at certain stores. But the Biddulph store only opened 5 years ago so you'd think it would be equipped with IT that could cope with something like this.

Come on Sainsbury's, companies like Shell did loyalty card instant wins across every site in their network as long as 20 years ago!

Bit of a pathetic reason to cancel your Nectar card. Most companies share your information with other third parties. I don't like shopping at Argos who are also a Nectar partner and they probably share my information with them. And do you know what? I don't care! If you have an issue with the Daily Mail just don't read it. Simple!
BristolBillyBob
29 Sep 17 #35
For me it's not a pathetic reason. If I see something in the world that I think is hurting other people and making the world a worse place for everyone, I try and do something to try and counter it. Withdrawing my support for a programme that is helping the Daily Mail thrive is just a small way of my doing that, and is in addition to not reading it, which I'm obviously already doing. If you prefer not to do that, or you don't have an issue with the Daily Mail, that's fine too. I won't try and belittle you for it, even if you do that to me (and seemingly create a HUKD account just to do so, which is weirdly flattering). :sunglasses:

Each and everytime this is on I set myself a 10000 point goal. I have never failed yet, then in November I double up and fill my boots with Xbox one games Yes it’s sad to keep doing £10 shops, and cashing in a stack at customer services can be stressful, but it’s an easy £100 minimum for buying stuff you would anyway.
gummby
4 Oct 17 #42
Oooh timing could be good!!! Finding anything not over priced is the problem. Remember the till must have a voucher machine on it or you get nothing!

Don't over spend as the double up event could still happen in November.
gummby
4 Oct 17 #43
Frustratingly just been given a £2 off £20 voucher at till. So spend 18 and get a voucher worth at least a pound. Or ignore it and get 2 vouchers worth at least £2 anyway. Hmmmmm
Greeble69
5 Oct 17 #44
You could spend £22, then use your £2 off £20 voucher, bringing your total to £20 so you still qualify for the two vouchers but have also managed to use your £2 voucher.
aau1
5 Oct 17 #45
It doesn't work like that.

You get one voucher per qualifying transaction over £10 (even if you spend £100 in one transaction you only get one voucher)

To get 2 vouchers you would need to do a £10 transaction and then a separate £10 transaction
gummby
5 Oct 17 #46
I think I will likely ignore the voucher. As if the points can be doubled up in November it's not worth it. Better to grab a minimum of 400 points.
Greeble69
5 Oct 17 #47
Oops, sorry I didn't really think it through with my comment! Thanks for correcting me.

gummby
5 Oct 17 #49
It's pointless spending any more than £10 a shop this weekend. (Fri-Sat.) There are some who will just go out and spend £40-60 in one go as they can't be bothered. Sainsburys staff hate this event as it cause them a lot of work.

Let's hope they are not just churning out 200 point vouchers on most shops this time round. Find out tomorrow.

6 Oct 17 #52
Can I buy a shirt in-store, get the voucher, then return the shirt later or would this not be in the spirit of the promotion? When I've done this before during non-promotional times, they don't ever ask for your card to deduct the points earned at the time of purchase.
aau1
6 Oct 17 #53
Not in the spirit at all but they are unlikely to ask for the voucher back. They can't see what you earned on each transaction so if they did ask you could say it was a 200pointer (but they won't ask)

If anything, nectar probably monitor the number of returns after this promo compared to other times of year and that might influence the reward pool next time...but they might not
gummby
6 Oct 17 #54
Worst thing you can do is advertise it on here. If they think you are abusing the system in store they may refuse the return.

help.sainsburys.co.uk/hel…icy

Just wait a week or so till all the fuss is over. You have up to 30 days. Although clothing you will likely get in the double up promo in November. So it's marginal value to buy it now. Albeit if you just want a free voucher it's up to you.

6 Oct 17 #58
Thanks again OP, went to Sainsbury's this morning and stocked up on things we use regularly, spent £62, split into 6 transactions at the self service checkout - bagged myself 2600 points and a coupon for triple points on my next shop.

The other thing I noted on my slips, is that it states 'To get your points scan this coupon with you Nectar card the next time you shop in store by the date shown' and the date on mine is 22/10/17, so looks like you might not even have to go the CS desk this time around.
gummby
6 Oct 17 #59
Just got back. 2x200. 1x500 and 1x1000. They arrived in that order. Plus 80 points for the spend of £40.

Problem is if everyone targets the offers the shelf ends up clean of any promotional items. Certain items I won't be buying for several months now. Didn't really look at non food items. New DVD/Blu rays etc. I figure these will be in the double up event anyway. Plus cheaper on Amazon for the older stuff.

Might manage 1 more £10 spend. Would likely struggle on my budget.

Overall £40.05 spent. Points 1980. So about 25% worth in points.

I scanned my points after each £10 spend. I think larger points may need authorisation. Not sure. Up to 500 is fine on self service.

Why are those petrol stores not participating?
No offer for me then as usual
gummby
6 Oct 17 #61
Many of the petrol stores are not linked to the Nectar network. That or they don't have Nectar voucher machines. Not unusual as most garages are several hundred metres from the main store. Both my garages that I pass are not on the petrol promo.

A good haul today - got in for the week's shop and some bulking up on things we buy anyway, plus some odds and ends for my mum (good value on the TURA Prosecco, was £5.99 last week - down to £3.99 this week!! Won 5000 points on the split shop with some of this in it - note: you can't scan the 5000 point coupon at the self service, had to take this to customer service).

£160 on groceries for 11900 points back, £50 at the petrol station, 1400 points.

My points total is now 44457 (120 points still to be added on for bonus coupons), ROLL ON DOUBLE UP!

(Was being looked at as if I had horns on my head right enough, lot of muttering going on with a couple of senior management types near the self service - I was ready to draw attention to the T&C regarding this - even says on the email that came through "Plus, there's no limit to the amount of times you can take part." The customer service lady didn't think I was that daft when she saw the points total on the receipt though!)

Just keep spending £10 till it ends! The big issue is a lot of the promo stuff will be out of stock. I know I bought multiple items of things on promotion. You know their own brand stuff rarely goes on offer so you might as well stock up.

Branded stuff is only really worth it if you know it's not much cheaper elsewhere. Products like Penguins I will never buy again in Sainsburys. They are £1.69 for 24 in Homebargains. Have been so for 3-4 years. £1.60 for 8 in Sainsbury is very poor value. Even at £1 for 8 I refuse to buy them. Weetabix I know I can buy £1 for 24 in Poundland at present.

Most cupboard stuff has over 1 year on the best before dates. i have a crisp supply now till mid January. I must have over 150 packs. I still have 46 loo rolls. (Didn't buy any today. Won't for another year or so.) My biggest issue was space in the freezer and cupboards.

My strategy was to avoid stuff I could double up on in November. Why pay £14 for something in the hope of getting a £2.50 voucher. Makes no sense. Albeit I did buy a £10 dvd last year and got 2000 points.

Plus if you know you will buy the products anyway you might as well stock up on the stuff you habitially buy from them assuming it's at the price you expect. Price vs convenience.

I am gutted I have never got a 5000 point voucher.

The Wail is something that is hurting other people and making the world a worse place for everyone? You need to get out more and actually see the world. There are lot more worse things going on in the world than the Wail.
The link up has made you give up your Nectar card? Christ, some people are so sad today. I doubt the link up with Nectar will make the Wail thrive any more than it does now. All you have done (is like many 'warriors' who do things like this), tell the truth, it's because it's eased your naïve conscience to allow you to sleep at night, hasn't it?
If you read the rest of the posts on here, they're like me. I'm not giving up my Nectar card because I enjoy it as the best reward card. I don't need to give it up to ease my conscience because it's clear and I sleep easy at night.
Half the world was starving when I was born - a long time ago. It still is. Nothing changes, and you won't change it either. Guaranteed!

"Nothing changes, and you won't change it either. Guaranteed." I'm speechless.

Just because there are lots of bad things happening doesn't mean we shouldn't try to fix one thing. Just because there are bigger things happening doesn't mean we shouldn't try and fix a small thing. Just because we can't fix everything doesn't mean we shouldn't try and fix something. And just because it seems difficult doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Yes, not standing by and doing nothing does help my conscience, because there's a lot in the world to trouble it. If yours isn't bothered by seeing half the world starving for your entire life and not lifting a finger because it's too difficult, instead calling people who do 'sad' on the Internet, that's for you and your sleep to reconcile. Takes all kinds. I don't expect everyone to have the same causes as I do, or to tackle them in the same way.

I quite like being called a warrior though. Can I be Xena?

Has anyone noticed that their bonus points aren't appearing today on their online Nectar accounts?? The standard points earned are their but I scanned most of my collected vouchers and they aren't. This definitely didn't happen on the last couple swipe and win promos
gphandley
7 Oct 17 #105
They didnt go on straight away last year, took a while to go on, terms said something like bonus points will be added within 28 days, i dont expect to see them for a week or so.

7 Oct 17 #106
But you were correct in one sense....Spend £22, use the £2 (off £20), get the single "swipe" reward of minimum 200 points = £3 saving (better than 2 x £10 swipes = £2 points...minimum of course)
jcvanshazam
7 Oct 17 #107
Filled my tank up and only got 4 x 200s and a 1000 :disappointed:

Then went in and did one 10 quid shop and ...

Not so sure it is. Especially if you get 500-5000 point voucher that could be doubled up in November. Even if you don't 400 points could be doubled up to £4 anyway. So in effect you lose at least £1. If not more. So far I have had 2x200 1x500 2x1000. On that basis I would expect at least one of those vouchers to be above 200. If not both. The main issue with double up is you have to spend it on non food items.

My £2 off 20 voucher is valid to the 11th. It's unlikely I will use it. Also got various free points vouchers if I spend x on a product. Struggling to use these too as I am stocked up on so many items already.

Don't often shop in Sainsbury's but ended up spending £47 yesterday and got coupon for 1000 points. Not bad, but reading all the comments, I really didn't think it out well enough did I?

Not really, as you should have got 4 coupons.

Bagged 4000 points yesterday on food and petrol on a £40 spend and today bagged another 1000 on a £10 food shop. No more. I am done. £25 of points on a total £50 spend is good odds.

7 Oct 17 #118
So another shop today - £71 spend (6 transactions) bagged a further 8900 points (1 x 5000, 1 x 2000, 1 x 1000, 1 x 500, 2 x 200) and another triple points coupon

So in total have spent £133 over the 2 days and received 11,500 bonus points back (£57.50 43%) + 131 standard points + a further 231 points, as in addition I had an offer of 100 bonus points on my next 8 swipes and double points on those 8 swipes, which I have achieved via this.

Will take my total points tally to 15,203, £76.02 which will double up nicely to £152.04, which will sort some of the kids xmas presents out.

The best bit about it all, is everything we bought we needed to buy anyway and then we were able to stock up on the things we always use such as toiletries, tinned goods etc.

Roll with me on this for a minute!!

240 sheets a roll. 46 rolls. Assuming 12 sheets a day. Actually that could last 2.54 years. So 2-3 years is a fair estimate. Assuming I don't catch a cold, have guests or make good use of public/work facilities. Wasn't really planning a time and motion study.

Having looked at the numbers I think I over did it on the loo roll front. On Plus side i got in before Sainsburys shrunk the rolls size from 240 to 220.

Out of curiosity - what happens if you buy things - bag the bonus points and then return the stuff - do they deduct all the points - coz in theory you didn't buy/keep anything and hence shouldn't be getting the points?

There has to be a machine that can dispense the vouchers. Otherwise it won't work. Local stores won't have vocuher machines. Plus they usually sell smaller products at higher prices.

Will sneak in another £20 later if I can find some room for stuff in freezer.

Thought I’d have a go at this today, this Morning spent £10+ x3 thought I’d got 2 x500 and 1x 200, but when I went to customer services to get the added, I got a pleasant surprise I’d won 1x5000 1x500 1x 200, then onto the petrol station, too busy and a toddler in tow, to mess about with re fuelling and only 200 points, still very happy, then decided I might as well and tomorrow’s tea, so another trip 2x £10 and another 5000 win and a 500, more than happy with today’s points, with £14 I already had a today’s I work out £140 when doubled

Done for the weekend now... normal shop Friday split into 6 transactions, car filled up with fuel and stocked up on a few months worth of washing powder and fabric softener as both on offer at the moment when popped out today.

Final total 17,600 in points ready for double up

Got a 1000 pointer and a 2000 from shopping again last night plus another 200, a 1000 and a 2000 voucher that some mugs had discarded. So many people just chuck their till spit vouchers these muppets were literally throwing cash away.

Filled up with £70 of diesel last night (7 x £10 transactions) and got:
1 x 5000
2 x 500
4 x 200

£34 in bonus points!‌‌

If anything, it created a friendship between me and the cashier as we laughed at me going backwards and forwards after each transaction  I made sure I went late so as not to hold up other motorists.

She thought it was a great idea and wondered why no-one else had done it.
