So a promotion by a regional rail franchise that doesn't serve your locality, because you don't live in that region, is poor because....?

The whole point of HDUK is if you think it's a good deal then you vote hot, if you think is a poor deal, IE: you can find the deal cheaper elsewhere, then you vote cold. To vote cold just because the deal is not available in your size, flavour colour, available from your nearest airport or train station is going against the spirit of the site.

Yes you may be able to book the Caledonian Sleeper via the Scotrail site, but the sleeper service is operated by a standalone company, being Serco. Therefore there would be no reason to expect that service to be a part of this Scotrail promotion.
As for your Virgin request, that is as ludicrous as your entire argument so far. I can book a ticket on the Virgin site to go to Penzance, but they don't go there.
The promotion is perfectly clear, but you're not happy as you can't have a free ride from England too.
So you, "wasted time and effort with their rubbish website, only to jump through all the hoops", when you could have checked the FAQs or terms and conditions first.

I'm not perfect, nobody is. Yes we do edit posts, but constantly doing it means I have to read all your posts twice.

Because such a major exclusion that excludes 92% of the UK population, shouldn't really be hidden away half way down t&C's and should be made clearer. Its a deal breaker for most. I would think you are in the minority of people who did read t&C's first, therefore it was a lot of collected wasted time from the majority. That's the point.

This^ was your original point: the company name should have given it away about excluding England as a point of entry.
I have booked through scotrail and travelled 'in Scotland' but boarded in England before. The Caledonian sleeper. Google scotrail Caledonian sleeper, it takes you to scotrail website where you can book, through scotrail, the service which is (now) operated by serco. Book sleeper through scotrail here...
Your original point was that it should be obvious it excludes England because it's 'scotrail'. My counterpoint is that it was not obvious to me, or seemingly to others. Thank you for the bed time reading and banter though. Now show me where on Virgin Trains' site it says that non virgins are excluded and I'll admit defeat.

Midland do indeed have travel info and booking facilities for a larger area, but Midland trains don't travel on those lines do they. Considering the OP clearly states it's for travel in Scotland, operated by Scotrail, why would i expect to hop on a train at my local English station. I took advantage of the deal and I live a long way from Scotland, so anybody else could too.

Its in the mock up of the ticket at the top of that email... Like I said...where it says £1 million pound giveaway. Its just cropped out of your photo at the top though I guess... Literally two lines above in orange writing where it says £1,000,000. I can't tell if you are just being difficult or you genuinely don't have the same email, which would be odd. See Julieallens post at 10.07... 'off peak Day return'. Everyone else is saying off peak day return.

If you like history they've got a fantastic Abbey in Paisley - it's an absolute treasure. It was built around the same time as the leaning tower of Pisa and leans just as much as it (wasn't the same architect but surprising coincidence). All sorts of famous connections in that Abbey (think Wallace was educated there), but one of the best cups of tea in the whole of Scotland.
Worth visiting Paisley for that place alone, we spent almost the whole day in there, in terms of historical value I'd put it on a par with Edinburghs' Saint Giles or Yorks' Minster - three of my favourite structures, had amazing days out at these places.

I have every intention of using mine as a single - My station has around 3-4 trains a day, and I live 1.5 hours bus from that station (With around 4 buses I could take a day to the station) so can only feasibly make the 2 afternoon trains, making a return that day impossible unless I stayed on the same train and didn't get off at the destination station.
I was online from 9.45 - 10.15 and managed to get them - I hope you manage to get some (And use them as singles if you want!).

It was a little over ten years ago that I'm talking about though, not now.... I'm pretty sure I remember Scottish students studying in England didn't have to pay, and I seem to vaguely recall it was paid by their local authority. Agreed, its a crazy system. Some Englander took the whole thing to court while I was at uni  Anyway, we digress.... I've had to vote cold on this deal. I'd have thought scotrail might have teamed up with the Scottish tourist board to widen the offer to those south of the border... actually encourage some English/Welsh visitors to spend money North of the border. Shame. I'd have been one of them. Also the sleeper train is rarely on offer either but arriving to a snowy morning in the Highlands is something magical  alas far too expensive now!
