Firstly LCD (with LED back lighting - people call these LED TVs, which is incorrect) isn't particularly great. The fact that you can't get a deep black is a huge problem and effects the vibrancy of the image. Colours on an LCD look washed out. If you haven't used a high quality TV or a plasma, you probably won't understand what I am talking about. LCD tech is a very mature technology and probably won't get any better, which is why the focus is on Smart features these days. Image quality is hardly ever mentioned. And don't even get me started on fast moving images.

In terms of image quality, QLED isn't that much better than LCD, which is why QLED TV sets which are available are not in a different league to LCD TVs - in quality or price.

Reading the comments in this thread alone, you can tell that people moving from LCD to OLED feel like the improvement is huge. Even those who owned plasma tellies are saying that OLED is great (which is a huge compliment). Some guy in this thread has said that paying £1700 for an OLED TV is the best decision he made. You won't find anybody saying that about an LCD or QLED screen.

I think that for those on a budget, QLED will be fine, but for those who have money to spend, OLED is definitely, unquestionably, the future.

My next TV will be OLED, but I am dithering over whether to pull the trigger now, or wait. My Panasonic plasma TV is currently in my living room and is working fine and this is what is holding me back from hitting the buy button.

Well known that 4K tv's do a worse job on normal TV picture. It's a premium TV and when it's fed high quality stuff it will do the job well. Feed it poor web rips and DVD quality sources and it will look bad.

I just want to add that my c6 has minimal stutter when configured properly , also 1080p Blu-ray movies upscaled to 4k are stunningly good and way better than any 1080p set and even the wife is in awe , 2k di uhd movies are fantastic are almost lifelike , don’t be put off by negative reviews here and please read up on these sets at avforums and they members there who are very knowledgable can help ..

yes definitely, I recently went from 42" panny plasma to this model and I am happy, the pq is much better, smart tv options are endless, research smart iptv and have free premium channels, it's a joy to watch.

I picked up the C7 over the weekend, I'm at the infant stage of setting it up, I've not touched the settings as of yet, already everything looks beautiful!
No issues to note from watching UHD football on sky sports, even Peppa Pig HD looks special.

No problem, there is nothing more annoying than not being told the truth,

All reviewers of these TV's just say the good things and none of the bad, pointless really just have a thumbnail with "BUY IT NOW" across the front of the TV, would do the job better than some reviews,

Most reviewers get the TV for free, or get paid to review it,

Reviews need to be done by low subscriber you tubers who have actually bought the TV with their own money,

Then maybe we will get accurate review,

This is the way everthing is going though, inferior products sold as fantastic, when they are not.

Hi,

I would just stick with a cheap LCD TV 32" for around £200 to £250,

There will still be issues but they will probably be different to mine,

At least the low end ariel signal will render better on a 1080P screen,

Content needs to catch up for 4K to be a good investment,

Talk to a sales rep in a TV shop and maybe your concerns will feedback to the manufacturers,

What will happen is QLED will take over as they can make far more of that type of TV,

It is still LED though,

And OLED will dissapear or will have to drop in price to £1000 or maybe less,

There is going to be a format war soon, LED v's QLED and consumers should benefit with the price dropping.

Glad I bought the 1080p OLEDs when they were around. They were as expensive as these 4K TVs, but hey no upscaling issues and downsampled 4K looks absolutely sublime.

Hi,

I am talking about the C6,

I don't think there is a massive difference between the the C6 & C7,

The C7 changes are as follows,

No curve on the C7,

No passive 3D,

The C7 is 20% bighter, not needed in my opinion, as will this effect the life of the screen ?,

It is to early to tell you will have to be the guinea pig to test that one,

Screen response down from 34 to 21 mill seconds,

Not a purple reflection on light sources on the screen, it is black instead on the new C7,

WebOS 3.5 instead of 3.0,

Dolby atmos instead of harmon cardon speakers,

I think the issues i have raised are still in the C7, as someone said above they looked at a C7 in a shop and saw the screen judder,

As far as i am concerned it is an industry wide problem, and they can't or won't fix it.

...Finger moves away from the buy button...

Christ - it's hard to know what to go for.

If I go for something this expensive I don't want major compromise. Could deal with that on a £500 Hisense, but it's just going to grate if there is obvious motion blur / stuttering...

I have only had my C6 for 1 week, and the upscaling on standard TV is worse than my old Phillips 32" LED TV that was £170,

If you only watch standard Freeview or catch up TV on channel 4 app the quality is terrible just really poor, massive big pixels, stutter, motion blur, con trails on moving objects, absolutely horribly painful to watch,

It is better if i take off my glasses and squint a bit,

I would prefer to watch standard TV on an old CRT TV, and save my money,

It is good when it gets a 4K signal but rubbish in every other way,

I have heard even some 4K blu rays are not proper 4K,

If the film was not shot in 4K, then they upscale it from 2K, so not true 4K,

There are websites to tell you if it was mastered in 4K.

Richer Sounds are good. To anyone else out there, stick with Currys (with codes) or Richer Sounds with cashback. Never go with Crampton & Moore, unless you like being greeted with shady sales who want you to ring them to place an order, so that they can fiddle the invoice and claim larger rebates from the TV manufactures.

Hi
I can see that you had a high quality plasma telly (like myself).
Because I own a plasma, I am very careful about "upgrading" to another technology. I have seen LCD TVs and they would be downgrades in comparison.
So, my question: does your OLED TV, feel like an upgrade, over your old Panasonic Plasma?
superhans0113
1 Oct 17 #103
I had the same problem with my C6,

I don't think any OLED is worth more than £1400 and that is the price they will drop to as sales for LG have slowed because they have run out of 2016 models,

I was really happy with what the C6 looks like in the shop,

But they only play slow moving 4K Blu Ray loops of Planet Earth 2 for example,

I saw the halo of larger pixels on the shop C6,

The stutter is a massive issue with all these TV's,

It is not mentioned by reviewers as they get paid to say good things, as they get to keep the TV,

If you say bad things you don't get another freebie,

I was in Curry's and another customer had the same problem with his Samsung QLED (LED TV) so he took it back,

Football was unwatchable for him the ball stuttered across the screen,

There is no menu fix for this, everyone on you tube has tried and there is no magic fix,

I got talking to him, and the salesman tried to get us away from each other as we both had the same issues, even with different TV's, i told him my issues and he told me his, and they were the same,

I am dissapointed as i feel i was lied to by the salesman, don't get me wrong it is a nice tv,

But you will be dissapointed if you watch sports or action movies, sometimes people just walking stutter across the screen,

If you are not happy take it back, if you can live with the problems, i can't see them being resolved anytime soon with firmware updates,

LG know they have a problem with these TV's and it can't be fixed, they have had 7 years to get it right,

So taking it back is the only way to show them you are not happy,

But which TV do you buy instead ??,

We can't trust online reveiwers as no one mentions the problems, they only say what's great about the TV's,

Are we supposed to ignore the glaring shortfalls of these TV's ??.

Maybe your c6 is faulty as My c6 is almost perfect then as I hardly notice stutter as I set dejudder to 3 and deblur to 10 with minimal artefacts, also I don’t notice these bigger pixels around moving objects , standard tv and Blu-ray are exceptional also , only low bit rate material in SD looks bad , Also there is plenty of 4k content on UHD Blu-ray , PS4 Pro which is simply jaw dropping on my c6 .. in all honest moving over to OLED was the best decision I have ever made

Went for the c7 on purely aesthetic grounds, all black, preferred the stand but it is a very personal choice. Both have same excellent screen. When I saw this tv at JL last month it had really awful motion control. Blurring and smearing of fast moving objects (they were showing a 4K tennis match) was noticeably worse than the high end LCDs next to it. The sales rep agreed with our opinion but could not find any setting to improve it. On avforums one of the mods pointed out that LG oleds don’t have any frame insertion tech which is why their motion control is poor.
So, can someone that has the tv let me know how it handles 1080p and 4K sports in the real world? What about 4K gaming?

I would personally go Richer Sounds. We've had nightmares with John Lewisham (High Wycombe) who use terrible third party repairers, they damaged my laptop scratching and denting it - and the Sony tv we sent in for screen maintainance came back with the bezel so scratched and damaged it looked like the 'engineer' (and I use the term loosely) had done the maintainance whilst simultaneously holding a big bunch of keys.

Be aware these TV's are by no means perfect there are a lot of compromises,

My C6 struggles with stutter and aura of bigger pixels around moving objects,

Standard TV doesn't render well on these upscaling TV's,

Not a lot of 4k content out there yet,

4k netflix needs 25 Mbps broadband connection speed to run at it's best.

29 Sep 17 #34
Depends on what you want. 2 different sizes, prices and big leap in quality.

I went with the cheaper and bigger Hisense. OLED prices are coming down quick so the Hisense will keep me busy for a year or two.

OLED every time.

It's 10" bigger and £600 cheaper no contest if value is paramount and your pocket not very deep.

29 Sep 17 #16
I can get it for £1584 using my works corporate discount (8%) but my girlfriend will literally kill me as I only bought a 49" 4K HDR about a year ago .......

Is this through one of those reloadable cards?
vig1lante to foxxes
29 Sep 17 #20
Similar I guess, but instant online voucher codes.
You can use up to 5 codes when making an online purchase and they come in £25, £50, £100, £200, £500 and £1000 so easily doable.
foxxes to vig1lante
29 Sep 17 #32
Ah right. mine is a re-loadable card, which I can only use instore but don't think I will be able to get this discount code applied instore.

Would anyone recommend this over the C7? There doesn't appear to be much difference between the two, aside from appearance. As the C7 is priced the same, I'm tempted to go for this one instead, however before making the purchase I wanted to see if anyone would advise against it?
dh12g09 to monkeyboyadams
29 Sep 17 #28
Purely aesthetic, all other elements are the same. There has been anedotal evidence of things being different but not in regard to the screen.
wide_dub to monkeyboyadams
29 Sep 17 #29
I would go for the C7 as it has the black bezel around the edge. Also i prefer the look on the stand on thr C7
OrribleHarry to wide_dub
29 Sep 17 #31
Code works on C7 too bringing it down to £1699
OrribleHarry
29 Sep 17 #30
Potentially £1,588 for the C7 if paying by voucher, wonder if that would still be eligible for cashback? Hmmm

Got a price match from JL for the same price valid for 28 days (Y)
David_e to dh12g09
29 Sep 17 #25
Nice! Is that with 5 year guarantee?
dh12g09 to David_e
29 Sep 17 #26
I assume so. They've said to purchase as normal and then claim the difference back which they will then send to your bank direct so I would see it as a normal purchase. I don' think JL offer a lesser warranty.

That looks small for a 55" unless the cabinet is huge?

The cabinet is 165cm and the tv is the same size as my old 50” gt50 @123cm wide

Might just be the small bezel?

Hey,

Was this using the new customer 20% code or another promotion. Might get a family member to sign up if its new customer...
vig1lante to dh12g09
29 Sep 17 #22
It can't be the new customer code unless it's slipped through somehow as the code is only 10% off Electrical items.

Ii thought that maybe the case but thought it was worth checking

Isn't there an issue with screen burn on these? I'd love this TV, would JL price match?

Nice price. I would buy at this price if end of the months bills didn't bring my bank balance down. Hope price stays or goes down leading to Christmas as that way I'll so get it

I cant ever remember a decent TV like this going on sale on black friday. Its always the crappy ones like a Polaroid from Asda, which people will queue up and fight for lol
