What's the input lag like? Could make a good monitor if it's reasonable, this comes out to 89 DPI so a little on the sparse side of the golden 96 dpi but not bad.

25 Sep 17#8
Have you calculated this at standard 4K res, or the usual gimped "4K" res of cheap LG sets?
Not checked resolution but imagine it's the old 3K bs.
CampGareth to The_Hoff
25 Sep 17#16
Standard 4K. Unfortunately I've just googled what you mean by the fake 4K of the cheap LG sets and it's absolutely horrible. Put me right off this TV as a monitor.
Regular 4K TV: This utter piece of rubbish:

CampGareth to morrig
25 Sep 17#35
You've missed the point, the point is this TV doesn't actually have a resolution of 3840x2160. It's more like 2880x1600 (ish) with some white pixels filling in the gaps. It means that if you feed it a native 4K video (no upscaling whatsoever) it'll lose a lot of fine detail. That's why the text looks horrible. The text is a 4K feed, the TV cannot display it properly.

The whole RGBW thing is blown massively out of proportion. Two things;
LG are the World's biggest TV manufacturer, and make 'proper' 4K sets too - they just cater for various budgets, their 'faux 4k' TVs still have a MUCH better picture than any of the budget brands
And I use a 1080P TV as my monitor, never seen anything as bad on it as the provided example...
CampGareth to ezzer72
26 Sep 17#64
You're saying things that don't counter the facts. Yes the picture quality may be better than other budget sets, but that's not the point. We're not talking about colour reproduction or any of the other factors that go towards picture quality. We're purely talking about this '4K' TV not actually being 4K. At the least that's dishonest, but if LG can do it, I'll release a 640x360 TV and label it '4K, HDR, BBQ' because they're just meaningless labels! To heck with the people who actually need fine detailing or expect to get the advertised features.
*edit* oh yes and this constitutes false advertising if they're not very careful with their wording. That's illegal.
ezzer72 to CampGareth

No TVs are actually 4K, that is a cinema grade as far as I know. The correct term for 3840 TVs is UHD, so the whole 4K thing is misused right across the industry.
CampGareth to ezzer72
26 Sep 17#67
There's a difference between DCI 4K (the cinema standard you're talking about) and 4K in common usage (which does actually refer to 3840x2160, blame marketing execs for making this a thing).
However this TV goes beyond that and is actually a case of false advertising. If a pixel is a full set of RGB sub-pixels, what we have here is 2880x2160. If you're okay with Red Green White being one of your pixels so long as Red White Blue is next then White Green Blue then it's the full 3840x2160. Thing is a pixel is specifically a set of RGB in pretty much every standard ever like all the ITU ones for broadcast television, all the VESA standards for communication etc, so this is 2880x2160, so not 4K, so not a 4K TV.
Also here's a video that explains it better than I can.
ezzer72 to CampGareth
26 Sep 17#68
I'd say that it is the point.
LG should not be vilified because they offer a cheaper, lower pixel count TV for people on a lower budget - it is still UHD as it's more than 1080P, and as I said, none of the TV manufacturers should be using the term 4k, technically.
Ultimately if I only had £300-400 to spend I would prefer a '3k' LG, than a '4k' Bush, Polaroid, Digihome et al, and you would too...

What you going on about? 96 dpi! You must have read an article on PC "Monitors" not TVs, this is on the smaller side of 4K TVs, so a 65" 4k TVs Dpi (dots per inch) will be far less.
