I also got this from three replaced a Sony z5 with dreadful battery life. I wouldn't go back to a Z5... But one niggle is the signal strength definitely isn't as good as in where I used to have no problem calling from inside certain places I have to venture outside alot more.

Could this be the answer to the first quoted post - no band 20 = poor signal = three dropped it?

The model 3 sold (P2a42) has band 20, and I find the signal better than my last phone(LG G2).

Edited to add.
I don`t think the Gearbest phones are the P2a42, on the last deal posted they seemed to be selling the P2C72.

I've been using this phone for a few weeks now, got it on Gearbest when they had it at that this price. Banking apps and android pay will work on it without issue. The main chinese phone I can think of that doesn't support it despite having NFC is the Elephone P9000 which i believe was due to the release of android they used on the phone.

6 Sep 17 #25
I've had one of these from three since they came out. Fantastic phone, I charge it every 2 days, the battery is honestly a game changer when it comes to smart phones.

I used to carry around a battery pack, my phone would rarely make it to the end of one of my 12 hour work shifts. Those days are gone.

I'm sure it's not as fast as more expensive phones, but its more than fast enough for myself, and when you no longer have to worry about your phone seeing the day out, who gives a ****
barbiegirl to mikejbry
6 Sep 17 #35
I get that it's nice to not have battery anxiety, but don't they have electricity where you work? What stops you from a charge / boost during the day? Genuine question.

6 Sep 17 #26
I have one of these, and to echo what others have said, the battery is a game changer. I can use 3 hours of Spotify streaming with Google maps on my daily commute, and do lots of heavy tasks (YouTube, Reddit, games) and usually still have more than 50% left at the end of the day. The camera is ok... Images look better in Google photos than they do in the stock image gallery for some reason.

Great phone, especially the battery, but first one had to be returned to Three due to it randomly resetting throughout the day. No way I'd be buying this from a company not backed up by a standard UK returns policy. not voting either way

I have bought 2 of these now, first for my eldest then when I saw how good it was I got one for myself to replace my Note 4 which has the dreaded mmc issue.

The phone is superb for the price, I don't use 4g anyway so don't miss band 20 as H+ is plenty fast enough. The battery life is 3 days use, 64gb storage is so much better to live with and it updates straight to Nougat. 2 things I miss from my Note 4 are the S pen and the great camera. Speed of the phone is fast everything opens instantly so can't really see how flagship phones would be noticeably quicker, just on paper. Oh and the fingerprint scanner works a dream unlike the Note 4s which what utter crap.

It's hassle, 2 days without a charge, what's not to like? Everyone I know who owns an iPhone, carrys a charger around with them. If you're happy to do that, you crack on. I'm not interested, nor do I have to worry with this.

Different priorities I guess, everyone has taken a daily charge as the norm, but really when you think about it, it's rubbish. I used to forget to charge mine sometimes, missed alarms etc, no phone for the rest of the day if I didn't have a charger. No thanks

Have to agree, that phones like this deserve a more prominent place on the UK high street/web stores. It's sad the one of the best USP's is battery life longer than 18 hours, when all phones should be targeting it rather than making phones 7mm thick, and taking things like headphone jacks out, and SD slots etc. It's fine on the small 3.5-4" screen phones that want all the power, but have not a lot of room internally.
However since I had the first Galaxy Note, which people used to laugh at and say it was stupid, and who needs a phone that big, we've lost features and yet all the other manufacturers have now move to that form factor for flagship devices.

HEAT! for me, and here's to hoping some company with common sense start making, thicker phones with 5000mAh batteries like this one.

Would be fantastic if we saw flagship phones with these big batteries. I know I’d rather have a thicker iPhone to have a bigger battery. Though when it comes to iPhones, a lot of people just upgrade when the battery has deteriorated so if they were sold with big batteries then it would harm Apples future sales.

I’m only on the Apple yearly upgrade program because I use my phone a lot and the battery has taken quite a beating after a year.

It'll be absolutetly fine for most people with a mid-range phone & average camera, but I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for somebody who has a high-end one with an excellent camera. Also, the lack of 4G Band20 could make it a bad choice for you here in the UK.

To echo and answer...

- TBH this is an amazing phone and despite a few tiny niggles (actually with the OS and minor hardware issues) it's basically as good as it gets.
- If it's a P2A42, get it, if not, YMMV.
- Don't get it wet
- Don't lose the charger
- The camera is pretty average (especially in even vaguely low light)
- Upgrade to Android 7 (Nougat) is perfectly feasible, there's a genuine 3UK upgrade, and a bloat-free ROW (Indian) ROM kicking about
- Battery is insane *beyond your wildest dreams* (within obvious physical parameters)
- There are models with 32GB and 64GB, the 3UK one was only available as 32GB - watch yourself
- There is a headphone socket (speaker is quite loud additionally)
- The lenovo OS in the ROW ROM I'm using is absolutely spot on
- Three stopped selling them because they ran out, AFAIK. I tried to get a replacement, couldn't (see below)
- It has a USB2 Micro USB port
- It is dual SIM and can be used instead as SIM/SD (actually you can have SIM/SIM/SD too, look on YT but it's mega fiddly)
- You can charge other devices because the battery is so big! I would be careful tho because... (see below)

Known issues

- photos not saving to SD card: big issue, I lost some photos recently that defo took. Research showed this could be ongoing, might be a prob in the card drawer? Mine worked again immediately after I reseated the SD card and reinserted
- I bought two of these handsets (3UK P2A42) - however one of them quickly developed a fault in the USB connector - it will charge ok but a data pin is broken, and it will not communicate with anything. 3UK were unable to replace this and advised me towards Lenovo who I eventually (it took some work) got to agree to a repair, but we didn't bother sending it off. You should note though that this is your only recourse in terms of a hardware failure
- Android Doze in Nougat is a total POS. You can't turn it off in the UI, and it's completely useless when you have a battery this size; you just don't need it. With the connector broken, the fix for this is not possible without rooting, which may also not be possible without a USB connection. Because Doze is broken, it screws up ALL your notifications. If you have this device, suggest you turn off Doze using ADB (link not supplied) and also installing Tiles app to control Heads-up notifs, and there are some other tweaks if you can't/won't do this (link not supplied).

If anyone is struggling with the OS BS I will push more links as hinted at here but I'm working so CBA to re-research them ATM.

I've had this phone for about 4 months from Three, with an EE SIM.

Stick a 128gb SD card in it, select "adopted storage" and you'll probably never run out of app space ever.

Hello - this thread has one "fix" - forum.xda-developers.com/len…e=1
In this thread someone posts a pic about the data settings. This helped me until I was able to get the other unit off my GF and hack it properly with an ADB setting. See the link that I posted on this same thread, to a page containing the ADB command. You need a computer with ADB to do this and working USB connection with developer settings. This ADB setting WILL NOT last past a boot I'm afraid and I've found no better solution yet.

Furthermore, you can execute another command via ADB which allows the Tiles app to work, and the author of that has made a Tile that turns off Heads-up notifications, which was my other bugbear with the OS. Check the app info for Tiles here for more info. play.google.com/sto…les

I've had the best success with ADB client on PC using Ubuntu, as it's all command line. Either way, you want "standalone Android SDK Platform-Tools package, you can download it here - developer.android.com/stu…tml"

*** If you have this phone, I recommend Tiles for a few quirky settings that you might want but don't have, but primarily (after some perms/ADB futzing) it gives you extra gizmos for your notification drawer including turning off Headsup.

Ordered from Gearbest and took 2 weeks to arrive. No customs duty. So after a couple of weeks use I would say this phone is a bargain. Build quality is solid and has many features of premium phones. One of the best things about this device is the screen. There aren't many phones at this price point with Super AMOLED display.

This is my second Chinese phone (previous was Huawei P8 Max) and they are getting better and better.

Had mine a few weeks, coming from a Samsung S5 LTE-A prime, its an amazing phone for the money. Battery lasts ages, squeezed 4.5 days low usage out of it with 8% battery left lol. Over 2 days should give you 10 to 15 hours screen time no probs.

I'm trying out Open camera and Bacon camera which are better than the stock camera. GPS and compass are spot on when I use as satnav and hiking and the Snapdragon 625 is nippy enough for my needs. Build quality seems good too, if Lenovo continue to make phones like this then I will say goodbye to Samsung
