A dark and violent crime thriller set against the backdrop of 1940's Los Angeles

Amid the post-war boom of Hollywood's Golden Age, Cole Phelps, an LAPD detective is thrown headfirst into a city drowning in its own success. Corruption is rampant, the drug trade is exploding, and murder rates are at an all-time high. In his fight to climb the ranks and do what's right, Phelps must unravel the truth behind a string of arson attacks, racketeering conspiracies and brutal murders, battling the L.A. underworld and even members of his own department to uncover a secret that could shake the city to its rotten core.

They won't, because under the bonnet the coding is a mess which makes a remaster problematic.
But the sequel Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out next year.

Well updated textures could give it a new coat of paint. Again, not sure if that's something they've done for the new console versions, or if they're just the same game running at higher settings.

When you're already running it at 4k and ultra settings you don't really need a remaster

On the contrary Rockstar don't normally do a lot by half measures, but maybe this is just a spacer game for an anticipated further delayed Red Dead. If you weren't a fan of the original in terms of story then fair play steer clear. I have faith it'll be a decent remaster, a trailer would be helpful at this point!

Remake or remaster, these games shouldn't cost more than £14.99. Dreadful easy for firms to quick convert these titles.

There are of course those who thinks Rockstar and many other studios have spent months remastering these games for next gen consoles. Laughable. :astonished:

Amazing game and such amazing news that it's coming to ps4/xbox , price is fine if it comes with all dlc. I own it on PC/ps3 & 360 but will buy this.

Yeah that's annoying. Although a 4k version would be nice on an already good looking game that still holds up (don't think the face captures have been surpassed yet), having it on the go on the switch would be my preferred choice.

Guess this isn't coming to backwards compatible till after the remaster then

I'm hoping it's already in the pipeline for release with the sequel! it's a no brainer.. a lot of people haven't played it and those of us that have want to play it again so to release a double box set to keep us going until gta6 lands would make total sense.. that way they can also finally bring it to the PC 'master race' losers that cry about it all the time

I only played this for the first time last year I can see why it's not for some but I totally enjoyed it, being case by case I could also just pick it up and carry on with the next one. I imagine I'll pick this up when it's a tad cheaper but still looking forward to improving some of my case scores

The draw here is the VR update. If you own a HTC Vive then I could see myself buying this game to play the VR case files. I loved the game, although found it fairly tricky to sniff out lies (was guessing towards the end)

I don't think it failed in consumers eyes, it reviewed well enough. But the overestimated demand and shipped too large numbers. When you do that the price drops, no matter who you are.

I know. Gutted though. The gameplay was so good though and multiplayer was great when you could get a match. I thought it would have been crap before release and assume everyone did as it's rare for a rockstar game to fail

The environments and atmosphere were wonderful but the gameplay was awful. The interrogation stuff was confusing, vague, made no sense. They look shifty and they move their eyes from side to side so I say 'lie' and it turns out to be the wrong friggin choice. (this is my recollection of it)

I paid 5 quid for the PC version years ago and this probably looks about the same so a hilarious rip-off. They should have remastered a game that people actually want like RDR1

I'm pleased that it's getting a reissue, I really enjoyed the original and was hoping it would be available as one of the xbone back catalogue titles.

Having said that, I'm not willing to pay £30 for it, I'll wait till nearer Christmas when it'll be about £15

Wonder who's doing the remaster? Thinking the team that made the game are no more and I can't see rockstar doing it as they only really published it in 2010.

Great news!

I finished L.A. Noire twice on Xbox 360, and twice on 100% (progress of game and Achievements).

Hope it will be in Polish as well! Especially, GTAV is in Polish, as a first R* game, thanks to Polish publisher Cenega.

This was £5 on the last gen consoles somewhere around 4 years ago. I wouldn't pay much more.
David23
7 Sep 17 #44
The visuals weren't the problem with it, I would be happy with the graphics as they were. It's the gameplay that's the issue and as with most remasters have shown, its usually just the visuals which get a bump. I don't believe they would overhaul this significantly, it's not going to be a massive seller so they wouldn't really bother.

Think I tried Max Payne 3 right after completing LA Noire. Gave up on it, never grabbed me. Seemed to revolve around doing slow motion dives everywhere.
reddragon105

It's unclear whether the PC version is getting any sort of remaster/patch/update - I'm not sure how the VR missions are going to be sold, whether it's a new standalone game or DLC for the Steam release (and whether that will include any improvements to the base game). But yeah, I'm assuming it's already as good as it's going to get and they're just bringing it up to PC level on console.

I don't know, were you in a coma for just the last 12 hours?

Probably because Nintendo.

I think it's a fair price for an average game. I mean lots of people seemed to dislike it because they were expecting a 1940s GTA, which is unfair because that's not what it was trying to be, but it doesn't quite succeed at doing what it does actually try to do - the animations aren't quite what they were hyped up to be and it's quite repetitive with little replay value. But it's a beautifully cinematic game, if that's what you're in the mood for, with good characters and story. Personally I won't be paying £30 to play it again because I've already bought it twice (on PS3 originally and later PC, which I'm assuming is on par with the console remaster although I'm interested to find out for sure) but for anyone with a PS4 or XB1 who hasn't played it, it's a new game that's just been made accessible to them, which is no bad thing.

They spent forever making this and it was massively over hyped. It wasn't developed by any of Rockstars main studios which is probably why technically it wasn't great. The developers weren't exactly happy when making it. This game is not worth £30!

Have you considered with a whopper overhaul both in graphics, mechanics and facial expressions by today’s standards won’t hugely increase some of the components that may have initially let the game down because it was an idea ahead of its time in gaming possibilities? We should be surprised they don’t want the full ticket price on day one.

Again with the moaning straight off :joy: a remastered game made in 2010 which was fantastic for its time, and people are blubbing straight out the gate about the driving mechanics and facial expressions before a trailer has even dropped. Despite the blindingly obvious improvements that come with a remaster including the previously mentioned points people are still straight into the whining. If you didn’t like the style, don’t buy it! If you loved the game and are excited by a 4K remaster on the pro, good for you, I am too! £25-£30 for a remaster of this calibre is a billy bargain on pre-order. HEAT

Think I made 1p by blasting through this in three days when it was first released and trading it straight in. I did enjoy it and then had a blast through the DLC cases at a later date on a JTAG but even after rebuying it when it dropped to a few quid, I never felt motivated enough to play it through a second time.

might be worth grabbing if you've never played it before and have no access to a PS3

It's a re-release for console with updated textures and graphics. It releases 14th November.

LA Noire for consoles: 14th Nov

From the Rockstar press release:

"Today, we're proud to announce new versions of the blockbuster detective thriller L.A. Noire are scheduled to release on November 14, 2017 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Alongside these three new console versions, we're taking our first steps into virtual reality with L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, featuring seven select cases from the original game rebuilt specifically for a virtual reality experience on the HTC VIVE.

Set against the seedy and violent underbelly of 1940’s Los Angeles, L.A. Noire is the story of decorated veteran and newly minted detective Cole Phelps as he investigates an escalating series of cases inspired by real-world crimes. Each successfully solved case brings Phelps greater success, but also brings him closer to the dark criminal heart of post-war L.A.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files for HTC Vive delivers seven of the original engrossing, self-contained cases from L.A. Noire rebuilt specifically for virtual reality, blending breathtaking action with true detective work to deliver an unprecedented interactive experience.

L.A. Noire for the Nintendo Switch features the complete original game and all additional downloadable content, with specific enhancements including a Joy-Con mode with gyroscopic, gesture-based controls, HD rumble and new wide and over-the-shoulder camera angles, plus contextual touch screen controls for portable detective work.

L.A. Noire for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One delivers the complete original game and all additional downloadable content with a range of technical enhancements for greater visual fidelity and authenticity, including enhanced lighting and clouds, new cinematic camera angles, high resolution textures and more. Plays natively in 1080p for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, and stunning 4K for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, these versions capture the grit and grime of the City of Angels like never before.

For more information, visit the updated website at rockstargames.com/lan…ire and keep an eye out for more from L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files and L.A. Noire for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both there and at the Newswire in the weeks ahead."
