It already comes with English and the drivers are here.

As far as adding windows to the SSD, use the windows media creation tool. Having fitted it you need to format it with disc management, then restart with the media USB you created plugged in and keep pressing the esc key to enter the bios, change the number '1' boot device in the bios to the USB media tool. My only confusion was guessing which windows to pick when it was all finished, it gave option 1 or 4, didn't know which was the eMMC and which was the SSD.

Ordered on 6th September - still processing. Was told on 13th that expected dispatch would be 30th. Now being told it's 20th October, yet, as of yesterday, new orders had an expected dispatch of 17-21st October. How can that make sense?

It looks to me like orders placed at a higher price are being pushed to the front of the queue.

So now the wonderful Yodel have informed me that my package has likely been stolen from their Gatwick depot. Apparently it’s entirely up to me now to arrange redelivery from GearBest who won’t even discuss this with me until 04/10/17. Really poor on the part of both Yodel and GearBest (but especially Yodel...)

Mine never arrived on the 29th. Yodel just turned the status from out for delivery to back to at depot very late at night.

I live in a popular residential area. It’s not as though they would have struggled to find me. Very likely there are yodel deliveries every day.

But at least I thought, back at the depot. The site now said it would be delivered Monday.

Just checked their website and now it says it was delivered today (Sunday 1:38pm) Delivery status left in “shed.”

There is no card pushed through the door! I only know because I checked tracking.
I’ve checked the shed and every bin possible and with the neighbours. Nothing.

I didn’t even think yodel delivery on Sunday. What is going on?
What can I do?

Esc key gets me into the bios (mine delivered by yodel today as well, must have had a pallet of them! And it came from a UK address 'thousand shores').

I backed up the drivers from the original install first and put them on a usb stick to use once I did a fresh install of Windows on a m.2 ssd I also bought and installed, basically the things that didn't get detected automatically were the realtek audio and some intel system specific items (chipset and display related things I think).

Touchpad seems much better after a fresh install.

How to backup drivers: thewindowsclub.com/exp…ell

Like many others mine was delivered today too. Requesting some help though.

I too had the spyware so it's being reset now. When it's done will I have to reinstall drivers? The touchpad and WiFi didn't perform very well from the limited time I used it - are there specific drivers which will sort this issue out?.

I seem to have a issue with the bios loading up upon every restart, seems like a key is stuck - which key would need to be pressed to load the bios?

Thanks.

Don't bother trying to get this - I put in my order back on 7th.
Order has been "processing" since, and its now the end of the month.

After 2 support tickets and 2 sets of "we'll get them in 3-7 business days, honest guv", I've pretty much gone for a refund.

Nice of them to take orders when they have zero stock, with no ETA. Also, love the "24 hour presales and support" chat room that is disabled during UK time, and it taking 24 hours for them to respond to tickets.

"derisory" you are very kind, i would have said "insulting". They really should get their act together and give honest answers. I have ticket responses confirming it has shipped and also that it is held in customs.I notice that the Gearbest rep has avoided this thread!!!!

Hi,

When I ordered I was expecting mine to take at least a month because of past experiences when ordering with Gearbest. I honestly don't know how they process and ship orders, but mine did not appear straight away on tracking, I got an email on 13/09 to say it was shipped and with the tracking number but it was only the 22/09 that Yodel showed the tracking. Even then it was expected to be delivered on on 22/09 then 25/09 but it kept saying delivery delayed without giving any reason.

However it was delivered to my neighbour yesterday even though the card they posted through the door said we missed you and will try again the next working day 27/09.

I too got this email, does this mean it's in the UK and will be released on october 1st?

27 Sep 17 #124
Thankful you got yours mate

However what I cannot understand is that I ordered a week before you (30th Aug) and had it dispatched a week before you (3rd Sept) and its absolutely no where in site. Also sound like your tracking number worked from the get-go?

As the same with everyone who hasn't received their laptop, I also got the same rather generic email about the customs delay. It states the following:

------------------------------------------------------------------

"We are contacting you with an update to explain the delay with your order.

Unfortunately, due to an unexpected Customs delay, your parcel is currently being processed. We have approached the shipping company to expedite the issue. They have confirmed that the package can be released by October 1, 2017; it will arrive shortly after this.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the matter. As a goodwill gesture and to apologize, we have credited 50 points to your GearBest account on September 22, 2017.

If you require further assistance, please contact us on the GearBest Support Center.

Thank you again for your kind support and continued patience."

------------------------------------------------------------------

What I don't understand is the reference to the shipping company. Is that the company which ships it from China to the UK. Or is Yodel? Looking at my dialogue with Gearbest, they keep referring to Yodel being the problem.

Could it be a case that the item is actually in the UK and Gearbest are telling the truth

I'm in the same boat. Order supposedly shipped 03/09 but status at far end and with Yodel is that the consignment has been notified but not collected. Chase Gearbest repeatedly, but just get the 'please be patient" message. Latest ticket update made some comment that DHL is faster than regular delivery!!!! DHL is no faster if Gearbest don't ship. I too have the email mentioned above.

To add insult to injury, I think 50 points == $1 not £6.50

I have never had this sort of problem with Banggood.

25 Sep 17 #118

I had exactly this email - and they gave me 50 points (less than a pound) in value for the inconvenience (mine was 'dispatched on the 3rd Sept and tracking is 'with sender' or some such vagueness) - now normally I would relish having some credit with a retailer but now I have to order something from Gearbest to use that and I don't find them the best at dispatch - probably be less cynical when I get the laptop ;-)

Hi. No, how would they 'ensure' it gets all around the world to you without some kind of insurance? They wouldn't pay that, hence the option to add insurance. With any purchase from China having a faulty item is a risk as your responsible for the costs to ship back to them which may be relativly high compared to the cost of the item; especially if they then say its not faulty. Buyer beware - no regulations or consumer protection laws to help you.

The add-on offer is to 'encourage' you to buy something else at a discount....

Generally if you choose a courier servcie as opposed to a free (and slow) postal service then your 'more likely' to incur import costs - but that's not guaranteed. Again buyer beware.

With regards to replacing the OS with a fresh install of Win10...
What does the activation status say when you go to "Settings > Update&Security > Activation?
I assume it's activated by digital entitlement/license.
Also I'd suggest you run license status manager from command prompt (slmgr /dlv) to make sure that it's not licensed through a (non-genuine) KMS server. If it's OEM or retail then I think it should reactivate itself once you're reconnected to the Internet.
Of course, as you guys have already mentioned, just ghost it in case anything goes wrong.

I bought one of these last week for £187 - chose 'Euro Express' postage (free) and it arrived in 6 days, with no customs payable (came by DPD). I'm really, really impressed with it. 6.5-9.5 hours of battery life, depending on use (lower is mostly video, higher mostly just normal web use).
I love how thin and small this is. To put it into perspective, it's 1/3 of the thickness, half the weight and about the same width/height as my Acer Switch 10 tablet, which has a 10" screen and is plastic! It seems fast enough (faster than my 8GB RAM / I3 processor HP laptop), it's great that it's all metal. Really premium look and feel - insane at this price!
I also love the screen - viewing angles are terrific and it's super bright and sharp. Exceptional at this price point. Trackpad is acceptable to good - I definitely don't think this V4 has the same one that people have had all the issues with. It's a rougher texture, which takes a little getting used to, but actually allows better grip / accuracy IMO.
All in all, I have no complaints (apart from the fact it has a Euro charger with a flimsy UK adapter chucked into the outer packaging), and I would say this is one of the best bargains I've bought in a while.

Thanks but I've tried tweaking every setting associated with the wifi chip and no real improvement.

What I've found is that some of the settings in the version of Windows 10 supplied with this aren't setup properly by default. I suspect that they've cloned a corporate version of Windows and fiddled with it. You need to re-enable Windows Update - it's in one of the system settings menus. When I did it, it added a few updates and checking the version / build of Windows showed that it was latest build.

When I try and update all I get is the following,

There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070422)

edit- followed the instructions here to enable it although now it just seems to be hanging on 'checking for updates;' I have to agree it sounds pretty dodgy to me.

Some people online have suggested that it's a Windows licence key hack but it's odd because this is supposed to be Windows 10 Home. I do wonder whether whether they've simply cloned a corporate version of Windows as I can see references to Bitlocker which only comes with Pro. They've also disabled Windows update by default (though you can re-enable it). Either way, it's all a bit fishy....

Absolutely certain it's version 4 as it has the panel on the bottom to get to the sdd port. It was bought when they were shipping version 4.

Finally plugged the charger in and cannot believe how short the lead is. Can anyone recommend another charger? the one supplied can't be longer than 2 metres. Surprised noone has mentioned this as it's quite annoying.

Paid £194 for it originally, might not have been that bothered at 169. The list of problems seems to keep going on.

Download speeds are less than half that of Chromebook (Acer InviLink Nplify 802.11a/b/g/n).

It's like using a 56k modem from years ago where you can see the different page elements loading one by one with graphics being the last to load....Wifi performance has been the biggest annoyance for me thus far.

31916019-4jmyO.jpg
12.66Mbps (ie 1.58MB/s) is pathetic as alot of webpages will be more than 1.58MB in size. Takes a couple seconds to fully render and that's not even any media heavy pages with embedded video etc.

Having a quick Google, it seems other people have experienced poor Wifi speeds with this Intel AC 3165 Wifi chip. Just goes to show that having a 'big brand' Wifi chip is no guarantee of performance. If any techies out there have any ideas, I'm all ears.....

Using one as I type this post and I don't think I'ver used a more crappy trackpad. Press left click and the cursor moves as you're doing it, sometimes very wildly. The keyboard isn't much better to be honest, you have to really hammer down on the keys to get the strokes to register. I had to type the first r of register twice for example. Also oddly if you edit a senence and press backspace more than one in a row the cursor goes straight to the end of the sentence. Very annoying indeed. The touchpad also has a strange and completely unnecessary matt finish to it.

The machine looks good but at the end of the day it's a crappy unknown Chinese brand with all the issues that comes with that. Sorry but this thing may have nice specs but it's awful to use.

You seemed to have missed the sentence where I stated that the machine looks good but good specs does not make it a good machine. Tat's (thanks for missing the H there you crappy laptop) not the be all and end all of a good machine. Otherwise people wouldn't like Thinkpads for example.

Go find me a laptop that doesn't have these problems, Tomardy.

Some of the problems with the keyboard show up in that chunk of text I posted a few posts back.

I have given up on using the touch pad buttons, just using the double tap on the touch pad to simulate left click and trying to hammer harder on the keys.

I have only had the product for a few hours. It was delivered today.
Picard123 to sotomonkey
6 Sep 17 #40
Are you sure you've got the v4 and not the v3 (which had a poor touchpad)? v4 uses Windows precision drivers rather than Elan or Synaptics. Cursor and pointer movement is fine on mine. It's the drag/swipe sensitivity (or lack of it) on the trackpad that annoys me.

Keys need slightly more effort than other keyboards I've used and you definitely need more definitive keystrokes, but it's sort of 'okay-ish' though definitely not great. The spacebar on mine is a bit hit and miss if you press right on the edge of the spacebar (rather than towards the middle). I wouldn't want to be writing novels on this keyboard though - it's clear that its a rubber dome membrane keyboard rather than one with a quality scissor switch key mechanism - increasingly rare these days, certainly on sub £500 laptops. I do wish that they had sourced a better keyboard though - I would have happily paid another £20-£30 for a better one. The Microsoft Surface Book keyboard is the gold standard for me - but that costs £1,000+. Apparently the Chuwi Lapbook 12.1 has a better keyboard than the EZbook, so it is possible to have a decent keyboard at around the £230 pricepoint. I guess Jumper had to cut costs somewhere to hit that £170 price point for this...

There is an excellent overview on TechTablets which I think evidences some gaming capabilities at lower end. This is v4 of the model and there have benn improvements. The forum also references tweaks that can be made to improve performance further.

Can Windows 7 be installed on this? Hate Windows 10
Picard123
6 Sep 17 #17
I've got the v4 of this. Took just over 2 weeks to arrive from Gearbest (UK priority mail / insured). Been evaluating it for the last week or so.

Things I don't like:

- Wifi performance is very poor. Not sure if its a fault but my speeds are about 30% of my other two laptops. Signal drops out completely if I move to the other side of the house. Random disconnects, drops in speed etc. I notice one of the reviewers online had this problem as well. Intel AC 3165 wireless chip used here. Not sure what the fix is for this.

- Trackpad pointer movement is okay but the sensitivity for two finger scroll and lower trackpad buttons is very poor. No way of adjusting the trackpad scrolling speed either or setting up scrolling zones on the left/right edge of the trackpad. Trackpad surface is a rough texture which I dislike. You wouldn't really want to use the trackpad for long periods anyway as your hand rests on the bottom edge of the laptop which is bevelled and therefore uncomfortable. I decided to use a mouse instead.

- Speakers are rubbish and very tinny. Sound through earphones is fine though.

- Keyboard is 'okay' but no more than that. I can anticipate some of the keys failing at some point in the future, particularly the spacebar as you have to press much more towards the centre of the key.

- N3450 is okay for basic tasks but it maxes at 100% constantly when loading media heavy web pages. Windows feels surprisingly sluggish compared to my i5 laptop. Really would benefit from a faster CPU and subsystem.

- Screen would benefit from a higher contrast ratio. It's sharp but there's loss of detail in black scenes of films as the contrast ratio isn't quite high enough. Fine for office work though and internet etc, just not ideal for films where there's alot of black or dark areas.

- in built microphone isn't very sensitive. You have to point your head 2ft from the microphone for Cortana, Skype etc!! You need to plug in earphones with mic for that...

- MeiMengMeng.Win.Clients.exe is loaded on startup which is not native to Windows. Looks like someone has fiddled with the original installation. I ended up disabling it.

Things that are good:

- Very low price for what you're getting. You'll never get a Windows laptop anywhere close to this for £170 in the UK.

- Aluminium build makes the chassis very rigid. Feels pretty durable.

- Laptop is thin and not too heavy.

- IPS 1080p screen is a bonus at this price (though the note the comments about contrast ratio).

- m.2 storage expansion slot is useful as 256GB SSDs can be had for £60 or so.

Overall:

Good for students and light users.

Bear in mind that you are buying an entry level laptop, so don't expect it to have the usability of a Macbook or XPS13.

Not really suitable for someone looking for a heavy duty, comprehensive, daily 'workhorse' of a laptop as those usability niggles will become a real pain over time.
Actionnotwords69 to Picard123

Hence the reason not to buy junk like this and spend more on a recognised brand
Picard123 to hotukdealz
6 Sep 17 #27
It's not junk - it's better than any £200-£250 Windows laptop you'll get from PC World. Like I said, for students or light users, it will be fine.

Buyers just need to think about their usage profile and make sure that its suitable for their type of usage.

This is the updated model. It has a slightly smaller screen but the extra features such as IPS display, improved CPU N3450, extra 2GB (6GB) memory. Upgradable M2 SSD slot, tweaked BIOS etc is more than worth the extra IMO.

Only thing making me hesitant from pulling the trigger is ordering from abroad. The highest amount I've ordered for is £30.

Any programmers out there know what this does? Is it spyware? Anyone able to disassemble it? I've uploaded the .exe here: ufile.io/wqo0g

It's clearly not part of Windows, so Jumper or some 3rd party must have injected that into the Windows install.

The tdp is already unlocked on this v4 model. It also has a cover on the back so it's easier to add a ssd. For the price it really is a decent bit of kit. Sure you can't really game on it, but for watching vids, doing office work etc it's brill. The screen is very nice, better than even my hp envy ultrabook.

Although I did install csgo on it, ran at about 45 fps going above and below. I think the emmc storage struggles quite a bit with it so I'll be looking at adding a ssd in the future. I also installed songbringer (new game on steam with zelda like pixel gfx) and it runs really nice, no slow down etc. Just don't be expecting to play gta and battlefield and you'll be happy
