1 spec seems a bit off on the CPW site. Max clock speed of the 658 is 2.35, on the phone it's 2.1. CPW have it at 2.5.

Hmmm, I bought this phone at CPW 2 months ago for £ 250. Mine is definitely a dual sim version. Anyhow, for this price it is a great buy. Only minor trouble is that available screen protectors don't cover the whole screen. That makes swiping in the corners or sides of the phone sometimes a little bit tricky.
fishz to thomvog
20 Sep 17 #33
The website specification says that it doesn't have dual SIM. I'd be in at this price if it did. It's a budget phone but I'd expect it to be good for a year at least.

As it stands, I'm looking at spending a LOT more on a OnePlus 5.

Voted hot - seems a good deal, just not for me.
thomvog to poundmaker
20 Sep 17 #39
I spoke with CPW. Yes, it is the single sim version. That explains the lower price compared to most recent offers for £ 250.

This or Honor 8?
tickedon to Jonnyblock
20 Sep 17 #17
Honor 8 seems to be marginally better (better CPU, better extra features, USB-C etc.): phonearena.com/pho…168

I have an Honor 8 and it's brilliant. Will really depend on whether you can get the Honor 8 for a similar price (I did in Sainsburys Mobile fire sale).
OB1 to tickedon
20 Sep 17 #19
I was wondering what the catch with this would be - turns out to be the charge port. I definitely wouldn't buy another micro usb phone. Oh well.
Speculator to tickedon
20 Sep 17 #20
I bought the same deal @ Sainsbuys but my Honor 8 developed a fault within 2 weeks and randomly turned itself off and had to hard reset to get it working again. Eventually, it wouldn't turn on at all so had it repaired for free.

Honor 8 as tickedon says. For me, the better SoC, double the internal storage (64 vs 32Gb) & dual-rear cameras win it.
tyr to Crossbow
20 Sep 17 #24
honor 8 is £300 so you can't compare with £200 phone really imho
Crossbow to tyr
20 Sep 17 #26
He didn't mention a budget - simply asked, "This or Honor 8?"

I'd still pay the premium & get the H8. There are other ways to get a new/like new H8 for less - EGC & eBay for example.

is this better than Moto G5 which was available from Tesco Direct for £125.
thomvog to user12134
20 Sep 17 #25
You can't really compare the two. Double Ram of 4GB versus 2, internal memory of 32 GB versus 16, slightly bigger screen, higher resolution, slightly better battery. There is a reason for the price difference

Great price, cpw pricing seems a little erratic at late, some of the prices do not match the description, although in final checkout true price is displayed, i received the blue P10 plus last week from them and it is now showing as £150 more expensive,if you are on the fence regarding the P10 lite just buy it, you will not find lower for sim free, also £10 TCB and official flip view cases ( highly recommend) can be had from £9.58 on amazon.

Been looking at this phone for a while now and this is an excellent price, the only thing holding me back is that I don't think it has gorilla glass, however I can't find out what protection it does have if any? Does anyone know? It also has a glass back .
RebTheRebel to awoo
20 Sep 17 #40
I could be wrong, but I believe it's Gorilla 2.5 corning glass. So it's an old version of the technology now. Still scratch resistant and tough to a good degree, but as ever, you can't go wrong with a screen protector. This will probably come with one supplied knowing Huawei.

About Huawei fast charge...
Am I doing something wrong. I recently bought the P8 Lite 2017 (love it) from Carphone Warehouse, and it's supposed to have fast charging. Now, from almost empty to full, it takes about 2.5 hours, is this classed as fast?
Because my Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 would go from empty to full in a little under 1.5 hours.
To me, that's fast. Or have I just been spoilt with that charge speed? I'm tempted to use the SU6's charger and see if it chargers the P8 quicker :unamused:
thomvog
20 Sep 17 #41
It does not have gorilla glass. I would definitely recommend to buy a screen protector and a case because with the metal coating on the back it is a little bit slippery.

I use the AUKEY Quick Charger from Amazon much faster. The charger supplied with the Huawei p8 lite 2017 is very slow to charge its only a 1 Amp charger.
RebTheRebel
20 Sep 17 #47
Ah, right'o. Thanks for that. So using a quicker plug won't cause any issues with the phone? I only ask, as I might just use the SU6 one I already have. Or the one you've pointed to. Cheers.

The J5 (2017) has a lower res screen, half the storage, half the ram & arguably the weaker SoC, but will most likely have better cameras & battery life. All for ~£25 more.

Check supplied charger, it should have 9V 2 A on it as well as sticker "Quick Charge". Otherwise it is a normal 5V charger like i said before you need to buy Quick Charger, best option is ebay if you are looking for original Huawei charger, i bought it for tenner from Hong Kong and it does the job perfectly...

I purchased this phone from CPW when it was £250 and is is dual sim and had a quick charger in the box (says quick charging on the screen when using it).

I think it is a great phone, the only slight annoyance is not being able to get a screen protector that covers the whole screen due to the curved edges.

I have been using Android phones for years and my biggest gripe is the micro usb cables as they get faulty pretty quicky even high quality ones.
The USB-C on my P9 is brilliant and I have yet to replace the cable even after 10 months of every day use.
Its also reversible like the Apple Lightning chargers.

20 Sep 17 #77
Yes, that depends on chargers. What you got in the box is a normal charger (5V1A). Fast chargers are like 5V2A or 9V2A. The bigger number you see the quicker charging time you will get. But honestly Huawei is a 'tricky' vendor, their method works only with genuine Huawei quick chargers.

Tempted. Been holding out hoping the LG G6 will come down in price to under £400. Don't fancy chancing Eglobal.

OnePlus 5 looks nice, but too dear.

Had the LG G5 and loved it but it had a slight screen issue, took it back to Argos who un-be knowing to me palmed me off with a G5 SE (they stopped doing the G5 and started stocking the SE at same price!) When I realized I took it back for a full refund. Currently using a Moto G4, which isn't too bad. Think I've had the Moto G4 ghosting issue a couple of times, when the screen flickers for a bit, then eventually stops, if that's it?

This is Nano Sim only so I presume Giff Gaff would send me a replacement Sim?

Decisions, decisions!

From what i can tell you is on the previous P9 Lite Huawei used Aluminosilicate Glass which is toughened glass same as Gorilla Glass. So I'm guessing maybe same on P10 Lite. I found this info out via sending an email to Huawei. Apple used it on the iPhone 4

Trust me, Huawei have made better handsets since the P9. The new EMUI is so much better now too. From my experience Huawei now make some of the best cameras and you can see that on many highly rated reviews too like Pocketnow etc. The Honor 8 and 9 and also P10 Plus

My box says its was-lx1a which indicates its a DUAL SIM as already mentioned by dws19920th.

Would appreciate if someone can confirm (those who has ordered the phone from the website and already opened it). Best way is to check if it has TWO unique IMEI numbers (dial #06# - it could be that they disabled in the software).

Also, does it have a factory screen protector already installed?

Thanks

Damm....lol...I am assuming your box says was-lx1a and with one IMEI like mine? Same when you Dial *#06#?

Googling indicates its a DUAL SIM....If anyone root the device, it would be nice if they can access OEMinfo Partition and see if there is a 2nd IMEI by any chance? Then potentially can be flashed with DUAL SIM firmware. Otherwise, no point of converting as it will have same IMEI for both SIMS.

Received mine on Friday and it is a single sim version.

Good phone for day to day use. I only miss my LG G5 when i press the finger print sensor to switch off the screen.

Don't understand how Huawei defines the the term fast charging as it took over 90 minutes to go from 0 to 93% with phone completely switched off till 70% charge. I was using the provided 2A charger. My LG G2, G3 and G5 all with same size batteries used to take 60-70 minutes with phone switched on.

I hope there there is no harm in plugging this phone into a quick charge 3 charger.?

Depends what you're looking for - I swear by the Nillkin range, particularly the nature version, which only covers the back of the phone. Had a couple of them for my Honor 7, and got one for this as well.

Now, if anyone has recommendations for a screen protector? I like glass ones, but am put off by the lack of full screen coverage because of the curved edges.

So the mirror covered this story and stated this phone has up to 6gb ram and a lecia camera.... Pretty sure that's incorrect?
happpychappy
23 Sep 17 #146
That would be the standard p10 spec rather than the lite.

Ordered for my mum. A big improvement from her really old Moto G (the original model!). £10 quidco too, cheers OP.

Hi, has this deal expired? or am I just incompetent! as I can't seem to get the price below £299. tx in advance for any help.

Make sure you go to sim free it's £199 there

Mine didn't have an update out of the box - guess it depends how long it's been sitting on the CPW shelves.

Well, depends which software you have, mine ends with B79 on the build number with July security patch

I know how it works. Having had a Huawei (Honor) phone for the past two years, I know how good/bad they are for updates.

Mine is B179 which I assume is the current - need to dig into XDA to confirm that though.

How does the camera compare to the honor 7
alg
25 Sep 17 #155
I'm not a person who takes many photos - it's not quite as good. But that's not unexpected. It's a lower pixel count, on a mid-range compared to a 2 year old flagship. However, for what I'm likely to do, it should be fine.

Definitely NOT the Wileyfox

Nope it hasn't your probably looking at Pay as you go which is £299. Sim free is £199

I decided to purchase one of these again and have regretted it. Everything was working fine but for some unknown reason the settings menu often takes ages to open. I've reset it and cleared cache partition, formatted memory card and had an exchange but to no avail. Often the settings menu can take 15 seconds to open and I've no idea why. Returned

Thanks. I was looking at the PAYG

Hi. Just got this phone and am very happy with it so far. Thanks OP.

The only problem I have is just how slippery/slidey it is! When I pit it down on a lot of surfaces it seems to have a mind of it's own and start to move-sometimes even several minutes after I've put it down.....

Can anyone recommend a good, unobtrusive(not anything that will greatly increase the size of the phone please) back cover for this phone?

Would be really grateful for any input.

Cheers

Excellent, many thanks for that AND the OP. I wonder if you could possibly confirm that you think it might help with reducing the "slippiness" issue that I have encountered? Many thanks again.

Is this better than the Moto Z phone?

No not possible without a case that's just the nature of glass backed phones they are all the same. Either that or have sweaty hands

I've seen nothing to suggest that collecting from the store invalidates TCB cashback. Where are you getting that information from?
rred88
1 Oct 17 #172
I got this case and it fits the phone perfectly and looks nice too

Spigen

Actually, its the first and the last images of the cover that is accurate. The middle images are incorrect. I cross checked with Spigen site when I ordered and received whats on 1st and last image.
alg
1 Oct 17 #173
You're mis-reading my comment - I was saying that if you purchased it in-store you wouldn't get TCB. I did the collect (not purchase) in-store, and TCB is showing up as confirmed.
alg
1 Oct 17 #174
I agree - Honor 8 is a year old flagship. The P10 Lite is slightly better in most ways than the Honor 7, but nowhere near the specs of the Honor 8. The only real advantage would be possibly longer term support from Huawei. (They have a stated 2 year updates plan for most phones)
alg
1 Oct 17 #175
I replaced an Honor 7 with this, and have to say I'm delighted. Everything seems at good as the Honor 7 was except possibly the camera, but as I don't really use the camera much, I can live with that.

Seems like a daft question, but have you actually tested the dual sim / does it mention it on the packaging? Just been in store at CW and they say 'this is impossible...' and asked the questions above. Would love it to be dual sim and thanks in advance.

I'm looking to replace Note3 and Note4, does anyone know how this compare performance wise?
thomvog
9 Oct 17 #178
This deal is only for the single sim version. That is one of the reasons why it is cheaper than the 250£ offer during which I bought mine. I have a dual sim which works perfectly well.
