Reading the feedback on GSM, this model seems to have fallen well short of HTC's usual standard and they've now abandoned it in terms of updates, probably ok for the price but as long as you don't think you're getting a premium spec phone at a budget price.

That was when it was sold as a flagship handset at much higher price. It is much better than the Chinese handsets available at this price sold directly from China and missing B20 and full of spyware. You can use it without worries , unlike other Chinese advertised on this site missing UK bands and full of malware. Take the current price into consideration.

I never mentioned Chinese phones? You should get some help with your problem, this obsession with band 20 is taking over your life.

Its not my obsession , it is general knowledge. I am merely stating the obvious. The 4G handsets sold in UK by the networks are B20 compatible. All the UK The networks have invested billions of dollars buying the B20 band and building infrastructure for it. If that fact can not go into your tiny brain because you want to buy phone shaped objects from China, or work as Chinese phone reseller, I cannot help you . But don't tell me, not to tell that to others . You can keep your lemons in your house or shop and play with them and curse your luck for a poor signal.

Xiaomi Mi5, on 3, with no band 20. This is slower than usual. Also, notice the full bars near the 4G logo. If this is lack of band 20, I'm OK with it. Pint?

Well people were ok when there was no 4G . Some people still have feature phones . One of my friends will never have a mobile phone . But if you are in UK and in the market for a 4G phone , it important not to buy a phone that will miss the best 4G band in UK. Soon there will 5G phones and 4G may lose relevance if it is much faster than 4G . But all the moment B20 and 4G are very relevant.

7 Sep 17#52
Who said the photo is a lie . Even if it was fake,I have no way to verify. All I know is you need carrier aggregation to get fast speeds . And for carrier aggregation to work, you need more bands . That is how EE proved their network is capable of Gigabit internet speed in Wembley Stadium using the Sony Xperia Premium which has Cat 16 LTE and B20 band . Other than that lower frequency bands like 800/B20 are better for mobile as they can penetrate hard to reach places. In America they use the 700 band for 4G for the same reason .

So you think you're not obsessed? so why did you bring up Chinese phones and band 20 in reply to my original comment about the HTC phone?
sam_of_london to Infiltrator
7 Sep 17#46
You have said I am obsessed with B20 . Only the local Chinese phones miss B20 , not the ones sold in UK . So it is one and the same thing. Maybe you are not even in UK so don't even care about B20 band in your phone or in the network .

You've got it now, in fact I don't just not care - I didn't even mention it in my original post where you then lectured me about Chinese phones and band 20 !
For what its worth neither of our phones have band 20, we're on the BT (EE) network and our phones are mostly in the AB41 and ZE1 postcodes - which I'd suggest are fairly rural (try goggling them..) We've never had problems with 4G coverage where it's available - current speedtest on 4G from inside my house is download of about 32 mbps, seen closer to 50 before but its raining heavily today with low cloud.
But lets not drift off into band 20 - this post is about the HTC, isn't it?

Actually p2a42 is a global version, available in UK. Has B20 and works on 4G just fine. Battery size is a killer feature in my experience. If you want a killer camera, buy a camera. These megapixel counts mean very little so don't expect Stella photos from either phone. But 12h of heavy usage screen on time and a charge every 2 days is pretty unbeatable in this price point. Maybe you are an htc fanboy, but there really are better phones than this for similar money. Your concern about band20 is a little obsessive...

Bought from eglobal arrived within the week haven't quite worked out if it'd the phone being a dual sim or Vodafone settings to enable 4g, but overall the wife seems happy over our Sony Z2's especially the front facing camera and having 64gb, seems plenty fast enough and finger print sensor is faultless soo far

I'm going to help you out a bit, friend - 'Zen1984' actually made a really funny joke that seems to have gone over your head. Sparklehedgehog initially tried to assist by informing you that the correct terminology is 'bought' not 'brought'. However, you still have missed the joke and with every response you are making yourself look less and less intelligent. So basically, you said you 'brought' many phones from them, with that incorrect terminology you are implying that you in fact completed the action of 'bringing' multiple phones from this seller to another (undisclosed) location - without no mention of buying (bought being the past tense of buying not brought) these phones. Therefore, Zen1984 asked if you had to pay for these phones as you only said you brought them. Hope this helps...

Hi,
It's either;
"with no mention of buying",
or
"Without any mention of buying",
By saying "without no mention of buying" , one would by implying "with mention of buying" because of the double negative, unless of course, that is what you were implying.
Hope I clarified that.

For non possible software updates is somewhat a bit worrying?.
And many on here in the past on HUKD have mentioned that the MediaTek processor (unlike that of the SnapDragon processor's) in these sorts of phone's are not as very 'Custom ROM' friendly, or something ...
I'm assuming there's an easy solution to this minor hurdle right?, thanx in advance for any feedback.
But saying that, it still looks like one hell of a phone for the money. :-)
