Think it's the fan curve TBH. I haven't looked at it since I installed the card. Swapped from a 970 which was whisper quiet.

There is no way this model of GTX1080 should be noisy even under full load, it's not a very high TDP GPU in the first place and this has a good cooler on it. It is one of the quietest models going. It is either faulty or you need to dabble with a custom fan curve.

Urm, slightly embarrassed. Took the side off to investigate last night and the card was quiet. Found issue, cable management. :disappointed:
When I put the side of the case back on it was pushing the spare 6+2 adaptor onto the end fan so the card was only running on 2 fans so had to work overtime. Tidied the cable up and as if by magic.........

This for £422 scan.co.uk/pro…mhz or should I go for the Gtx 1080? Will be running on 1080p 144Hz monitor

At just 1080p both are going to be very fast cards. I would argue the GTX1070 isn't that overkill for it if you want high framerates and it'll last a while. £420 is too much for a GTX1070 at this point. You can get them for £370 even in this inflated market.
GTX1080 is kinda overkill for 1080p you'll be hitting 100FPS+ on most games. If you are going to spend £400+ on a GPU though the GTX1080 is the choice at this price for the moment. Don't be paying over £400 for a GTX1070 now, it's mad.

Thanks for the reply, I couldnt find 1070 for around £370 other then the mini's, I might just hold out for longer for now lol.
vulcanproject to Undercuva
18 Sep 17#31
To be fair, the minis are generally good cards. The Zotac one may have no back plate but it really doesn't seem a big deal on a smaller card like that, and the cooler is very good. It's not like the GTX1070 is a very hot GPU. It doesn't require some monster cooler. It doesn't really use any more power than a GTX970.

Definitely go for the 1080.
Even 1080 doesn't hold 144fps at ultra settings @ 1080P - anyone who says it does, don't know what they're talking about.

If you've got £420 to throw down, save the extra £40 and get the 1080, both are possibly overkill but you're future proofing yourself.

Have 3 silent inlet fans and 2 silent outlet fans, all extremely quiet with water cooled 7700k. Air drawn in through front and back and pushed out top. No issue with airflow at all. Processor cool and so is GPU. Stays cool but is very noisy.

Sorry, airflow in front and out through back and top. Have water cooler taking air from case to push out the back. Have negative pressure in the case as larger outlet fans on top. Have bottom of case sectioned off for power supply taking air from bottom and pushing out the back too. Case very rarely gets warm but is usually extremely quiet.
