Quite a good deal in my opinion. Very impressive battery life for a gaming laptop too (7-8 hours), drawbacks would be that it's from the Nvidia 900 series rather than the 1000 series which would mean though its performance is comparable to the 1060 it would produce more heat and be less optimised. It looks to be a bit heavier than other 15.6" models at 3.5kg rather than 2.5.
But for those on a budget this really does it if you don't mind this dated model. You won't find many like this for under 1000.

980M 8GB can easily beat 1060 and although it's slightly less powerful than 1070, it's still very powerful card...
It's actually very near, so if you find a much better deal for it it's very much worth it.

It depends on the type of 1060 as well. The 3gb max Q is probably weaker then a 980m for example (although it would keep all the advantages of being a newer card). The full 3gb version vs the 980m is very close so that extra power will matter.
In the end, for this laptop, I'd worry about that CPU. Laptop CPU's are still much weaker then desktop cpus.

I wasn't saying it's a bad deal. I think it's a great laptop for the price. I was just saying it doesn't easily beat the 1060
I know nothing about gaming laptops... but if I had a budget of £899 would this be THE laptop to get?

Yes. I have a laptop with a 960M which is quite a bit worse than 980M and it runs just about everything rather well with some setting tweaking. With a 980M you could probably run everything on higher settings.

I had a laptop with 965 which is a little bit better than 960 and now i have MSI Ghost with 970 and it's much faster than my old 965...

980 destroys a 1060, don’t worry about that. Really good price

A 980M though notice the M for mobile, means that the 1060 is the faster part, so if a laptop with a 1060 comes up for similar price then that will have the faster GPU. This laptop uses a 980M.

Serious question - in what way?
I'm looking for a gaming laptop at the moment and the moment all benchmarks shows 980 being slower than 1060

Every benchmark that I've looked at contradicts that. You must be looking elsewhere.
I have the predator 17. The battery is not readily removable on this, you also need to open her up to clean out the duel fans and I had to replace the thermal compound in less than a year as it is a known problem on these that the stuff it comes with seeps away leaving the processor and graphics card open to heat build up and damage. The graphics card is also built in so can't be upgraded.

This is a great find. A very viable alternative to a 10 Series gpu

The battery is a massive plus, the standard for gaming laptops round that range is 3-4 hours, with some exceptions like the Acer VX5 (VX 15) which is 5-6, at 7-8 this is amazing.

This laptop has got 980m, but there are many with 980...
Really good price

Not much between this and a 1060, but you won't get a new 1060 laptop for close to this price.
Personally, I'm going to wait until I can get a 1060 laptop for about a grand. Fingers crossed for some amazing black Friday deals
