Tried the code with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - Black and it's not working for me... Whats the 20% code that seems to be working for people ? I've not received any codes from Very and I've had an account with them for over a year now.

Anyone in a similar position ?

the note 8 is a phone, not a tablet!

I agree completely. They charge for extra warranty and call it applecare plus.

However just bought MacBook pro 13 and love it.

Now to get to the main point. Who is Dafuq?

I submitted my claim last night (32days after pre order. Safe side) I took a screen shot of my email of the order and a shot of my orders on my online Very account. Both show Order no. Product. Date. Retailer. Got a confirmation text saying they received my claim and will be in touch within 30 days.

I pre-ordered mine on the 7th September so according to the terms of the free DeX promotion, I can't claim for the DeX until 30 days after the pre-order date which means I can't check what you say is true until the 7th October. I can confirm that Very are an Authorised partner so the claim should work. I'm not sure about providing an invoice but I presume your Very Statement should be sufficient as it shows the order date on it.

I ordered through Amazon UK. The advisor I spoke to confirmed Amazon were part of the promotion. Once I went to process the claim I was told by Samsung they are not part of the promotion! Because of this I've lost the opportunity to get a free DEX as I found out after preorder window had ended

Got my Note 8 last Monday direct from Samsung - i needed dual sim version, started playing with it on Saturday with the intention of sending it back - buyers remorse etc and guess what I'm going to keep it. It is a lovely device, will take me a few weeks to figure it all out. Yes the finger print reader is too high, but the iris scanner works 99pct of the time even thru my

Same with me, I ordered on the 11th, I didnt get it on the release day, then it was ment to me delivered on the 25/9/17, not it is saying the 9/10/17.

They are saying it is because of no stock at samsung. Samsung is out of stock now, but will have stock to sell on the 28/9/17.

Same as you, if it was not for the 20% off and free dex, I would get a refund and buy from somewhere else

IMHO:

Had mine for exactly a week, and it's excellent, battery could be slightly better but when is it ever enough really compared to back in the day (sound so old lol) but get through a full day (12-15hrs) with few games, youtube, browsing, emails etc but with a fast charger takes no time to charge (mains) via a fast wireless charger takes just under 3hrs ;\

Apart from that S pen is a joy to use, have used it few times in recent days, i like the screen off memo feature, usually in evening/bedtime to note something i need to do next day/morning as a reminder to myself.

Bixby, I've not really ever used voice commands before (google assist etc) but i really like the feature, it's not perfect but it has its uses, for example you can set quick commands - pressing Bixby and saying goodnight trigger what ever features you set to execute. for me it turns on blue light filter (good for bedtime reading/looking at screen) puts phone to silent, sets my alarms. Another example I've set is "going out" turn my wifi off and data on.

Screen is brilliant, as is the finger print reader, more uses then just unlocking the phone, also use it to log into my banking app, PayPal (dunno why apple dropped it) You get use to the position of it & with a case on it its easy to find.

Always on screen is a good feature, you don't sometimes realise how many times you tap/switch screen on to check time/date, but with that always displayed its handy.

Camera is amazing! the live focus is a bit hit and miss depending on what you picturing. but looks excellent when taking pics of people.

This is my 1st edge type device, i like the side screen apps/short cuts very useful for apps/contacts you use often.

Split screen is another useful feature I've used and works well, when in car i used the sat nav/music player together on the screen at same time. at home i use YouTube to listen to music/video while browsing net.

Live messaging feature is fun but maybe not useful as such after novelty wears off.

Coming from a HTC one M8 found the single speaker at time bottom of the phone a bit disappointing compared to my HTC front facing duel speakers.

Plenty of YouTube videos if you wanna do any more research.

1. Samsung is not Android, Android Pay comes with Android which is a Google product, Now had you said Samsung pay....
2. USB-C is not Samsung, it is a port standard, also in use on Apple Macbook's
3. Android first public beta release Nov 5th 2007, iPhone first release date June 29th 2007 BUT Google actually bought android in 2005.

I agree though, Samsung copied a lot from Apple in the early days, Google did too with Android, Apple did, heck they are all at it

My wife's had one for about a week now, long overdue upgrade from Note 4. As you would expect from the price and being new, it's the best i've played with. I personally don't think there's been much advancement in technology though. Perhaps next year will find some more groundbreaking features. I'm happy with my £200 Lenovo P2 atm.

You have the option to pay for the items at checkout in full rather then put them on your Very account, but you still have to have a credit check (and pass) when opening an account with them to place an order regardless if you want to pay in full and not use the credit facility.

I dont recall ever making a statement such as "Apple always copy Samsung".It was you making the statement that Samsung were the ones who were copying Apple. Whilst once upon a time true, my argument was that it was no longer the case. USB C is the adopted standard by most of the industry. Not going to get into a dispute about which is best and who is copying who and as I made clear at the outset am not interested in an Apple v Samsung debate.

I am not going to comment further as you are clearly one of these individuals who struggles to admit if they are in error and absolutely must have the last word so I shall leave you to that privledge and bid you good day

Samsung (or generally android) have copied Apple on numerous occasions also (this is always overlooked)

1. Apple pay came first before Android Pay.
2. Reversible charging port (lightning) was out before USB-C
3. iOS existed before Android - many minor features were copied into Android from iOS

My point being that they both copy each other, you cant just say "Apple always copy Samsung" either.

It might not NEED more ram but they should just put more in to make the specs better and make it better value for money. I don't need the 8GB of RAM in my phone but it's nice to have and knowing it's better value for money and knowing the company isn't purposefully trying to rip off its customers.

Apple don't need to make their products so expensive. They own enough of the phone market as it is. It's the people who buy into it let them raise it to rediculous levels. Don't buy into it.

Oh, and this £45k isnt counting overtime, which may well be adding another £10K or more.

13 Sep 17 #101
But why on earth would you need more than 3GB of RAM?! A standard computer has 4GB of RAM because it’s designed to run multiple applications at the same time. How often do you have more than one app displayed on your phone screen? I frequently flick back and forth between apps on both my iPhone 7 and my Huawei P9 Lite and both of them hold apps in memory perfectly fine. On my Huawei P9 I’ve never been able to run enough stuff to have less than 800MB of its 3GB ram remaining because it will just close an app to save battery.

Waiiiittttt what!? A soon to be trillion dollar company has a sole focus of making money? That’s crazy... If only Apple could be like Samsung, Google and all the other manufacturers who don’t have a sole purpose of increasing profits

I agree that the price of the iPhone X is obscene but so is the price for this Note 8? Personally, I think a phone should never cost more than £600 but this is the world we live in and phones are going up in price. All I’m saying is that I don’t regard this Note 8 as better value than the iPhone X, especially when you consider how much better the iPhone X will hold its value.
mrT786
13 Sep 17 #100
Agree, each year they give a bit less and charge more & more, lower screen resolution, smaller screen/ battery vs competition, less Ram, dropped headphone socket, dropped finger print reader. This applies to the normal iphones aswel as the ipX.
ZeroEx
13 Sep 17 #99
But 3GB of RAM in a 2017 high end smartphone is laughable. Even standard computers nowadays have 4GB so it's apparently worse then a standard computer now.

Apple could add more if they wanted to but they won't
to save money and maximise profits. It shows they are only in it for the money and laughing at every sucker who buys into it.

Sure the facial technology is more advanced but not that advanced to the point it's £999. It's actually a joke.
leelukehope
13 Sep 17 #98
Oh cool, another one who does no research.

- Is the iPhone X using the same c*** facial recognition thats duped by using photos of the person to unlock it? No it's not, its far more complex.
- Are you seriously comparing the amount of RAM used? One OS uses less resources than the other. Does Linux need as much RAM as Windows? Check speed comparison videos on YouTube. The iPhone 7 manages to hold more apps in its 2GB RAM than Android phones with 4GB RAM.
- Wireless charging I'll give you, though I will miss having a completely Aluminium chassis
ZeroEx
13 Sep 17 #97
A few quick example that are being made a big deal on this phone:
- Wireless charging (S6 had this).
- Facial recognition (S7 had this).
- 3GB of RAM (S6 had this).

There's more but I don't have time right now to go into detail. Long story short... It's very, very, very overpriced - and people will fall for it

£40k between them is not a lot of money, and is just a little above minimum wage salary really.
If they continue to binge that bad on tech, they will have the debt collectors at the door shortly.

Just go for the Samsung, it will be a better scenario, in my humble opinion.

Pardon my curiosity, but what is this 'old technology' that's in the IPhone X?
leelukehope
13 Sep 17 #90
I'm a bit confused where you've said Apple are copying the 'bezel design' of the S8? The iPhone X 'bezel design' couldn't look anymore different from the S8's. If anything, the iPhone X will have copied the Xiaomi Mi Mix.
I wouldn't say increasing the screen to size ratio has anything to do with the copying the S8 because that's just natural progression isn't it? Just like processors are improved every year, so has the screen to size ratio of pretty much all manufacturers. The S8 does look fantastic in its own righ (I never said otherwise) but the S8 couldn't really look more different to the iPhone X.

I was hoping it wouldn't come across that way but I don't have a preference towards iOS compared to Android. I have just as many androids, if not more, in my house than iOS devices.

Re. Claiming Samsung DeX, does the 30 days start from date of order?

e,g, if ordered 1st Sept 2017, earliest you can claim is 30th Sept, and no later then 30th Oct 2017?

Also looks like demand is high or they holding back stock as the delivery date has been pushed back from launch date (15th) to delivery on 29/09/2017 for new orders on Very site.

13 Sep 17 #87
No one will agree to pay £800 for this - or £1200 for the new iPhone, but they will be happy to stump up even more to have it on a drip, drip contract; then dump it in a drawer in less than a years time, when the new shiny comes out.

My son and his GF earn over 40K between them, but are always claiming poverty; because between them they have nearly a dozen "Flagship" phones on 2 year contracts they are still paying premium rental on; and I can guarantee one of them will turn up with either the new Sammy or the new iPhone in the next few weeks.

Interesting. The Iphone X looks similar in design to the Galaxy S8 and even has the same screen size. Not going to get into a IPhone v Samsung debate as both have their merits but to say Samsung are copying Apple is kind of misleading. Think Samsung have been more innovative in recent times and with the launch of the S8/S8+ it seems others (LG, Apple etc) are copying the bezel design. I have the S8+ and isn't in the slightest laggy, has a great battery life and is the most comfortable smartphone I have ever held in my hand. Appreciate and respect your preference is or Apple but Samsung know a thing or two about innovative design too

Iphone X

- No expandable storage
- Overpriced
- No headphone jack
- Less than 2k screen resolution
- Battery capacity unconfirmed
- Screen brightness unconfirmed (visibility of the screen in direct sunlight?)
- Face ID instead of touch ID
- Stainless steel edges will be a scratch magnet

At this moment in time I'm swaying towards the Note 8, LG v30 or waiting to see what Google Pixel 2 has to offer.

This is just my opinion so please remain calm.

You can call bs on whatever you like if ignorance is your thing. But next time I use one I'll remember to record it and send you the vid! Touchwiz has always been regarded as clunky. And no I have a Huawei P9 Lite which funnily enough, at half the cost, is much more responsive and smooth than any Samsung I've ever used. I use the P9 Lite everyday with most of the same apps I have on my iPhone. I haven't got one widget set up on it simply because I don't have a need for it. I also spend very little time in either phones settings app. All I need is a wifi and Bluetooth toggle, music player controls and a brightness slider. Both phones have this!
I don't blame you for needing widgets, with the speed difference between iOS' and Samsungs UI and in app performance I'd probably want widgets too.

Mentioning Apple copying Samsung is beyond a joke. Samsung has been trying to copy and imitate Apple from day one, whether it's designs or marketing. All these things you say are amazing for efficiency or ease of use might help you but literally not one of them is relevant to me. So I'll reiterate because apparently you didn't see it the first time. For your uses Android is better - fine - but that doesn't mean Android is just better than iOS.

Then we have completely different experiences on these phones. I have an S8 which I find to be super smooth and fast. I call bs on your "laggy" experience.

As for all the extra features you find gimmicky, I doubt you've actually used an Android phone beyond an occassional browse (if that). How are full widgets "gimmicky" for example? They're the opposite of gimmicks, and the funny thing is Apple fanboys have been saying vastly better designed features on Android are gimmicks, but when Apple start copying Android's functionality (e.g. the swipe up for contextual pages) they view it as a fantastic new feature.

Widgets make using a phone 5x better - if they weren't Apple wouldn't be introducing them (albeit poorly at the moment). Just to give you an example of the benefits of full widget luciousness, I live in London where I take a bus on a daily basis to and from my local station. I have a widget that I only need to tap once to immediately see when the next bus is coming at whichever station I want to check. There's no apps I need to open, no menus to go through. On my company iphone that would require opening the bus app, waiting for it to load, then pressing the menu item for favourite stations, and then clicking on the bus station itself to see the next bus. You'd have to be a bit of a weirdo to say the latter is a better method then the info being instantly available on your phone screen.

Or another example. I use the internet alot on my phone. I have a widget for my bookmarked sites (linked to my Chrome account so I have the same bookmarks synced) where I've set the widget size to an entire screen. This means I have a row of all of my bookmarks instantly clickable. In iOS you have to either open up the safari app or manually create an icon for each individual bookmarked site you want quick access to.

Look at the pull down notification bar on Android vs the pull up settings bar (and useless notification bar) on iOS for more "gimmicks". On my Note 5 I can access over 40 settings instantly, full notifications, complete ease of use, all fully customizable. I want to turn NFC on and off regularly for example, it's instant. On iOS there's only 5 settings on the pull up (airplane mode, wifi, bluetooth, do not disturb, orientation) with no customization, and an absolutely shoddy and archaic notification system.

Sure, all of these Android superior designed functionalities are "gimmicks" if you view things like efficiency, ease of use, etc, as gimmicks. And of course they stop being gimmicks when iOS copies them.

Samsung phones are the best Android phones on the market by a country mile (or any phone for that matter, as Android > iOS and Samsung's flagships have been light years ahead of Apple's for a good few years now in terms of specs, technology, design and features). Yes, Samsung release major updates less frequently or more delayed than Google's own devices, but they also release more stable updates from my personal experience, and I'd rather go for a vastly superior handset with less frequent updates than an average handset with frequent updates. It's not like the updates are that big a deal most of the time, it's often aesthetics or a new feature that I'll never use anyway.

I have a Note 3 bought 4 years ago and it's still getting updates, albeit not the latest android version. But if you're really that bothered about software then after 3-5 years when the updates stop you can root your Android device and have a custom operating system on there that blows anything that Google or Apple or anyone else releases out of the water. Obviously rooting isn't for newbies though, particularly Apple newbies.

Its fairer to match the Note 8 to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 which is similar in size and probably the same spec on paper if not Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 slightly faster and looks better for probably £250 cheaper!
leelukehope
12 Sep 17 #66
Would never spend more than £350-400 on an Android. Only Google's own Androids are kept updated for a respectable amount of time. This isn't a problem at ~£300 as you can just upgrade every year. Shame as Samsung do make nice looking hardware.

Say what you want about Apple but at least they keep their devices updated for the life of the phone.

Leaked specs arent always the correct specs, and cpu speed isnt really something that can be compared between different cpu families,.. so I will wait and see what they come out with, rather than speculate.

I certainly wont be spending nearly £800 on a phone I know Samsung wont support with updates for more than a few years (if that).

CaptainSocks to Gentle_Giant
12 Sep 17 #36
Xiaomi Note 5 spec leaks show:

5.5 inch screen at lower resolution. 3gb ram. Significantly slower processor. Etc etc.

Not really fair to compare it with this tbh.

It'll be a very capable budget device but nowhere near the spec of this.

This is my first ever post on HUKD so be gentle!
Using code LWWRW from the Very.co.uk Website I was able to Pre-Order the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 for £769.00 + £3.99 delivery and get 12 months 0% Interest Free Payments. The normal price is £869.00 +£3.99 delivery, so a saving of £100.

The detail:

I was going to Pre-Order the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 last Friday, so was checking prices out and noticed that Very have an offer currently on their Website which gives you £50 back as a credit on your account on Computing £299-£499.99 or £100 back on Computing £500+, using code LWWRW. The code is valid until 05/10/2017.

I thought I might as well give the code a try on the Note 8 (it's basically a 6.3" computer) so whacked in the code and sure enough, it worked as in it applied the 0% 12 Months Buy Now Pay Later. I couldn't see the £100 credit showing against the order, so I called Very Customer Services, explained that the code had worked but the £100 credit wasn't showing. The advisor then told me to remove it from my order so that she could then place the order on my behalf. She then added the code and told me that the credit would show up on my account in 24hrs time.

I checked the next day and it was still not showing so I called Very Customer Services again, explained the situation, the advisor got their manager to approve it and when I refreshed my screen, hey presto, the £100 credit showed up bringing the cost of the phone down to £769.00 plus £3.99 delivery. Total cost £772.99.

The phone comes out on Friday 15th.

I know there is a bit of faff involved here and you either have to have a Very Account or open one up, so the deal may not suit most people, but it was worth it to get the £100 off and 12 months Buy Now Pay Later 0%. Presumably, this will work on other phones provided they are £299 or above. Alternatively, use it on a computer purchase knowing it should definitely work!

Here is the Offer Screen:

Very has the worst website I've seen in a while.
I try to log in but it says my account is locked.
They send me an email saying to click forgot password.
I click forgot password and enter my dob.
It then says they don't have an account registered with that information.
I try another email I know I registered with. Same thing again.
I then remember why I have several accounts registered, because this has happened before.
I fact I called Very CS last time to try and order over the phone only to be told by a half dead sounding woman that they can't apply the voucher code and that I need to call back in the morning
