You have to be very careful with software like this. Quite often it can install the wrong drivers if your PC or especially laptop requires specific drivers created by the manufacturer and not generic one's a program like this will often give you.

True, better set a System Restore point manually prior to installing any updates offered (if the program doesn't already do it by default).

Good program, only problem I have ever had with it is with graphic drivers so probably best ignoring those.

Have downloaded it for now however the only time I find I need a program like this is after a fresh install. Can I use the activation key then? Or will it allow me to use it now and later when I reset my laptop/others

Put it this way, as long as you KEEP the SharewareOnSale email that they send you, then ...
I did just so, some x-days back (with a different SharewareOnSale Freebie I'd already both downloaded and installed onto a Windows Laptop, then day's AFTER that particular Freebie had ended, I referred back to the email they'd previously emailed me x-days prior (of which I'd not deleted to the trash can, or whatever?), as a result of that, I was then able to re-download the exact same day's later!, hehehe.
But this time I downloaded it again, and installed it onto a Windows Tablet instead ...
And alllll worked perfectly! (as if it was rather on my Windows Laptop instead, or something?).
Simply put, both a download link + any necessary Serial Number's/Registration Codes etc are emailed to you ... (delete that, and your obviously screwed via it for a 'future date'?).
Note to self, keep everything!, hehehehe, job done, lol. :-)

Something weird... I just accidentally googled the serial number I was given and a whole load of foreign threads relating to this program came up with the exact same serial number...
Anyone else get a similar serial number

There was once a time when I would have used software such as this.
I stopped after a past partner never updated her operating system, didn't have any anti virus installed, and didn't check drivers. (after updating/installing all that it turned out nothing was wrong)!
I lost the use of my scroll feature at the left edge of my track pad after a similar program installed some generic 'upgrade' drivers.
It was hard work getting the original driver back to fix the mouse!

Personally I just feel this is another bit of crud creating more problems than it solves. Serious PC users update their own drivers manually, most others are blissfully unware of what a driver is or does and at best Windows updates do it. Auto updating drivers just mean problems crop up and you may not quickly find out why. Other than graphics cards what actually needs updaing regularly and makes a noticable difference, almost none I suspect for the average user.
These along with memory managers, auto cleanup software and of McAfee are things that should be consigned to the recycle bin of history.

I wouldn't recommend it. Third-party software like this is unnecessary, and often more likely to serve as bloatware which impedes performance and causes significant problems or minor annoyances (especially like popup ads) than fix any issues.
Spectral

It can be handy but dont set it to autoinstall new drivers, check what its found is right first. I find software like this useful for finding some of the drivers needed for older PC's.

Do NOT use this program because it's crap!
Use Snappy Driver instead and Driver Pack Solution they are both free, I much prefer Snappy Driver as there's simple no crapware installed, you have to be more careful with Driver Pack Solution and go through each section and untick what you don't want.
Snappy Driver is easy to use, as long as you have Internet access you can download just the program and download the indexes for your PC then it will tell you which packs to download. If you don't have Internet access then you can download the full snappy driver 12GB+ but I would just go on another PC and get the network drivers then download snappy driver and get the indexes, will save a load of downloading.
Either way the above two programs smash the crap out of IoBit Driver Booster, btw I sell refurbished computers and work repairing them, couldn't be without those two programs I mentioned.

Appreciate the heads up for these as I've never heard of them before. Snappy Driver looks interesting as its a portable install.
I don't really have anything to say about IoBit one way or the other as most people have pretty much covered everything. I've tried it, it found the most recent driver and installed it without any problem. The only slight annoyance was that it inserts an entry in Task Scheduler which you've got to keep an eye out for (though this appears to be the norm with any program installed on Windows 10).

As has been mentioned here, you need to be very careful using tools like this as for the most part they are not needed. If your drivers already work, they rarely need updating. Updating for the sake of it is dangerous, as you have found out to your cost. I hope for your sake you have some backups to hand.

if you go into the Settings dialog, and then click on the Drivers option (or scroll down to it), amongst the Tick Boxes are the following options:- - 'Automatically create a system restore point before a driver is installed', - 'Automatically back up a driver before it is installed' if you make sure both of these are ticked (and obv Apply/OK it!) then you shouldn't have any problems (famous last words?!?!) (you can also simply click on Recommended, where both of the above (and others) are selected )

That is useful but a) system restore is not always enabled on people's computers, and b) system restore is not that reliable (I've seen more failures with it than successes over the years). So having the driver backed up is of no use if you can't boot into Windows. Drivers really don't need updating like applications and games because most of the time they offer nothing new or different (apart from maybe gfx drivers).
You only have to look at this thread to see that more than one person has had a bad experience and updating drivers can be quite dangerous, much like the BIOS. The simple advice most sensible people will give is leave drivers alone unless there is a specific need to update. Simply updating because a program like this says you are out of date could put someone in a world of issues, and for what?

Yes I agree about system restore (had lots of times with that not working when needed) and I agree about drivers. If they are not causing problems then leave alone although sometimes updating drivers can stop future problems happening so its about weighing the pros and cons and deciding yourself. But for the job of updating drivers (if you decide to) this software is one of the best I have tried
DriverPack will install drivers for free and solve driver problems on any device

in the past i've had problems with IObit software .. whenever i've decided to get rid of IObits software due to crashing or causing conflict so ive tried to uninstall and try to get rid of IObit programs.BUT i couldnt.. I found it hard to remove IT ,,BUT IOBIT removed my sound card driver and graphics driver and corrupted DLLS AND dlls was missing. IT EVEN MESSED UP MY SYSTEM RESTORE POINT .. TOTAL NIGHTMARE ..i ended up reformatting my pc lol .. but with me IObit programs like to say ill teach you a lesson for trying to get me in the recycle bin and removed SO iobit remove important stuff and mess ya pc up lol happens on any laptop or pc problems with IObits software .. im no computer expert but through my experiences i avoid any IObit ..not saying this will happen to everyone just think and look into it,,,, people should look into reviews about ISOBIT software before considering downloading or buying thats all .. mind u the first search google ads on reviews on isobit is brilliant reviews ppl recommends it.. so try finding a forum for honest reviews or sites like here hot uk deals .. mums net ..e.t,c .. but becareful with all software you get ........... you never know if they wanna get revenge for uninstalling it and remove your folders files and drivers and movies . :fearful: blimey think i just typed a book .. soz
