Skoda are running a promotion at the moment for a real life test drive. Take their Superb hatch or Octavia estate and drive it for three days.

There's no catch - you pay the fuel, they cover everything else, including the insurance. Only restrictions really are no taking the car abroad and hand it back like you got it. Note the cars are fitted with telematics boxes so best not to drive like Lewis Hamilton.

Promotion runs to the end of the month so get in quick - great if you've any long trips planned such as weekend away or taking kids to their new university miles away etc.

Not the same, with seat you must insure the test car. Taking cars in this way is a way too risky as s**t happens all the time when you don't need it. I wouldn't take any vehicle for a test drive that i need to pay to cover it or with excess unless i really want to try it and purchase.

I got accepted last week for an auto Skoda superb but logistics for collect were a ball ache so left it, I have a new Passat GT I just wanted to compare the two.

I ordered a Skoda Trial, at the address where I was shown from the promotion page from Skoda. I booked for reservations, but said they did not have such an offer. Maximum 30 minutes. driving is possible.

Just had a conversation with dealer - Willis Motor Company, in Hounslow, they said that they not participating in the 3 day test. That made to look at the skoda website and under the skoda 'Real Life' test drive, to my surprise I found that there is a text that this test is no longer running but you can request your normal test drive.

Just to comment I've had my test drive and there were no issues and no heavy sales stuff. I'm interested in the Superb as my next car it's a great big machine for the fraction of the price of the A4/A5 it shares much of its mechanicals with!

I was an early adopter of VAG Skoda got my Fabia Mk1 Classic back on September 2000 cost me £8000. Test drove an Astra and Focus and then the Fabia and it was £2800 cheaper than a focus and was pretty comparable performance wise and way cheaper.

Had loads of people for years just standing there looking at it and asking loads of questions, even had a petrol garage manager come out and asked to sit in it to get a feel, his 306 was a bag of crap LOL and he loved it. Got so fed up with people asking I said look it is great value for money and great overall go buy one.

The snobbery got beaten easily and people don't even bat a eye lid when they see a Skoda nowadays. Remember when my mate had a Passat and he said there nothing in he Passat that's in the Skoda so we parked them together and he sat it in and went white at how many parts in his Passat was in my Skoda, he got his coat and now owns an Octavia.

17 years later still going strong pass the last MOT with no faults or notifications.

Would have brought another but Skoda are not the Skoda of the early VAG years, prices are higher now then they should be but the quality and build is still the same, solid, dependable, nice drive.

Replaced it now with Kia C'eed 1.6 GDI 2 as it offered better value and is a massive step up in terms of kit and drive and is as great a car

But I still have the Fabia, its the work horse now for shopping, going to TIP, etc and its still great.

I never got a call or email in person. I received a generic Email from ŠKODA so obviously they are happy to keep me on record which is obviously pointless. Due to this poor dealing I’ve told them thanks for nothing basically. Well at least I spent the time to email them !
I’ll stick with Volkswagen. They might cost a bit more but you get treated much better.

I always thing the measure of how good a car is, is how quickly you appear to want to finish your journey and get out of it.

VWs, BMWs and Audis must be really uncomfortable/painful to drive. Spikes in the seat?

But these skodas must be like a limousine with champagne on tap or something.

I still haven't heard anything from them. I emailed customer service today to complain and find out when I can have my test drive. Will see what they say. needless to say, if they decide not to honour it, i'll take my custom elsewhere. If they are poor BEFORE I buy a car, imagine what it would be like after . . . .But fingers crossed it works out.

So, I did not get a call. I called them to check and they were happy to go with me for a test drive!! I said, "wait a minute, was I not supposed to have the car with me for three days!!?" to which the chap responded that the offer is now taken off and we are no more offering this any longer. Not even to people who requested when the offer was on!

What a waste of time and effort.

I don't know what I've said that upsets you so much, but I didn't say ALL TFSI engines are Skoda built. I also have nothing against Korean cars if that's what you think. I just found it odd that a driver of another marque that makes good value reliable cars would poke fun. I looked at the i40 but there was nothing close to the deal I got from Skoda. I also have no desire to get personal with anyone but the fact you think all German cars are trouble I'd bet not!

Why compare the reputation Skoda had in 80s with now, when we all know they are rebadged VWs? Why drop the name? For those who don't want or can't afford an Audi/VW/SEAT, Skoda allows them a very similar vehicle for a lower price. It's called brand positioning. :face_with_monocle:

Yep. Someone summed it up perfectly with the Jim Davidson 90's jokes. Skoda don't top reliability and driver satisfaction surveys for nothing. The ignorance is laughable but it always comes from vain, materialistic types that don't have a clue about cars other than which badges cost more so they can impress the neighbours. I replaced a 330i with a Skoda, which is still on SORN because it spent more time off the road than on it...

I'm not the slightest bit surprised that your 330i was trouble, most German cars are.

i don't know if I'm one of the people that don't know anything about cars in your book, but been in the industry since 1988.

Actually you can get an extended test drive quit easily. I had a Tiguan for a full weekend picked up Friday took back Monday - didn't have to pay for anything even petrol. All you have to do is ask! Oh and I didn't go for it in the end

I've owned Astra SRI, Mondeo Zetec etc. and my current Octavia 1.6 SE L blows them away for quality and driving experience.

Easily average 60+ mpg with plenty of power when needed.

Skoda make all the 1.2 and 1.4TSI engines in their factory. Nothing wrong with the LED clusters but I agree the standard bulb clusters aren't the prettiest. Then nothing compares to the sweeping indicators of the A6, they still impress me every time I'm behind one.

There probably was an element of knowing their place within the group but VAG is repositioning Skoda. Range toppers pushing £40k aren't a poor man's car.

The badge snobbery is shocking. You even get from from people who drive inferior cars like Vauxhalls (no offense to Vauxhall but their cars are nowhere near Skoda quality). I even had it from a Hyundai driver. Yea, like Korean cars have always been great...

They've even overtaken Seat, which is now VAG's value brand and there's a flipping Leon in every other drive. I was looking at the Kodiaq back in May when picking my car up and the model in the showroom was £35k!

On the subject of Audi, I bet there's a fair few driving around in TFSI A3's oblivious to the fact their car has a Skoda engine.

Just tried Cardiff and Newport - my home and the dealer postcode, no go. Shame as I really want to try the Octavia and the Superb. I have the Rapid at the moment (1.2 TSI Greentech 105BHP) and it is great, although the suspension in the Octavia and Superb will be more plush.
