This will probably go cold, but I’ve had one of these since January after seeing it on the grand tour.

yes, it’s expensive for what it is, it’s embarrassing in car parks, and it doesn’t have cup holders (they’re a £140 optional extra!!).

But, test drive one and you’ll fall in love! 3 things:

- not sure whether leasing is worth it. I’m paying about the same for mine (ex demo with lots of extras - no cup holders though!) not leasing.

- these are probably scorpione - cheaper but you lose a few things (Bose I think, leather seats)

- do not under any circumstances buy the auto! Manual is the way to go on this car

Most dealers have demos available - fiat try to get rid of them after 400ish miles (mine had 300 on the clock).

And PCP, so same price but have the option to buy it - seems better than leasing. Either way, it's a fantastic car.

Sorry dude... I love lease deals but voted cold on this one.
Not disputing the fact that it might be one of the better deals out there for this car & spec but just dont believe this is genuine value for money....
This works out at circa £3.7k per annum. I'd be happy to lose that sort of money on a very premium German motor but not on a low powered, 2 seater, Italian fun-mobile.....

Please do some proper research before assuming/advising that German cars are a good idea.

27 Sep 17 #33
Have done plenty of research over the years through ownership, renting, borrowing other people's, etc. Overall experience has always been positive in the grand scheme of things for me personally. Not suggesting it would be a good idea for *everyone* of course...

You're right though, definitely a bad idea to buy one if you can't speak German as you'll never figure out how to operate it... :unamused:‌

You probably own a potting shed and green house.

I swapped from an Italian fun-mobile to a premium German motor due to fiancee having a baby.

I do have a shed full of pott, so you're not far wrong and my house was green but I just painted some brown bits on it, so as to make it camouflage, now the police won't find it.

Know exactly what you mean about an "engaging car" vs a safe & sensible one. I've gone the other way, had a Merc that was beautiful but pretty boring to drive. Now recently bought an F-type R which makes you feel alive like nothing else I've ever experienced on 4 wheels.

Let’s pretend for a moment that’s true - you recommend against a car that’s brought to us from the same company that breed the World’s best supercars (whilst mixing in the typical ‘pub goers opinion that German cars are best), yet have spent c. £90,000 on something built by Brummies (soz Brummies, nothing personal) and developed using curry tokens.

Epic

27 Sep 17 #38
"Let's pretend for moment that's true" lol.... Alrighty then :joy:

Pretty much ....(although I didn't actually recommend against the car. I said I didn't feel this deal offered value for money) I genuinely think the car is pretty cool and quirky shall we say...? Would love to borrow one for a day whilst wearing a full face crash helmet... :ninja:

But as the saying goes "opinions are like ars*holes, everyone has one"

P.S. It was £75k nearly new. Was worth every penny if I get run over by a bus tomorrow.

MrSweeney to m5rcc
27 Sep 17 #35
Not sure which part of my very general, Italian reference is "curious" given that Abarth are an "Italian racing car and road car maker" as per wikipedia link below:

en.wikipedia.org/wik…rth

Pretty easy to join the dots on that one I would have thought regardless of which country the cars' nuts & bolts come from and who tightens said nuts & bolts...

The chap who designed the original Fiat 124 in 1966 was an American national so should we just say it's an American car to remain in keeping with your logic?

#Comment completely unrelated to the deal#

Don't people say the 2.0 Mazda MX5 version, whilst a bit slower, is actually better to drive than the Fiat/Abarth Spider because the turbo spoils the power delivery? That said I saw a Fiat Spider today, for the first time, and it looked prettier than the far more numerous new model, still nice looking IMO, MX5s I've seen. But then I think that was a standard Fiat Spider, all these contrasting panels on the the Abarth probably look silly.
bma1445 to VDisillusioned
27 Sep 17 #9
In person the Abarth looks far better.

ive driven the Mazda - yeah the Abarth is a bit sluggish in the low end because of the turbo lag, but keep it above 2.5k and it’s great

the Abarth version is much better than the standard fiat

I do love the car "experts" on this forum all the knowledge combined from rumours, Google and Jeremy Clarkson makes them qualified to comment on vehicles they have never owned or driven, it's actually both hilarious and pitiful in equal measures.

I am no expert by any measure but have worked in the automotive industry for 20 years for some of the largest automotive companies in the world, I have been in dozens of car factories and spent years studying standard deviations for reliability, quality and throughput.

Every car manufacturer attempts (some better than others) to emulate Japanese car factories by adoption of Kaisen methodology and lean manufacturing techniques yet the Japanese cars are not the most popular.

Generations of perfecting manufacturing techniques and honing reliability are nowhere near as powerful as rumours and boy racer opinions.

Excellent point Harry, and very well made. The only things I would like to add is that in many countries, Japanese cars are the most popular - the UK is a bit of a one off, and in particular, is the German car industry’s biggest single market (outside of Germany, anyway). Those rumours have worked wonders here.

You assumed wrong, Yes I've owned a couple of VW's and owned a couple of Fiats.

I would hope that things have improved since then, This looks a nice car and since it's pretty much an MX5 with a Fiat engine it might not be so bad.

I think £3.7kpa cost is very reasonable for the right car, at least by my own affordability status, others may disagree which is fair enough. I said I think £3.7kpa is too much for the car in this deal, not in general. By my estimations I'm looking at losing circa £5k pa (give or take 1k) in depreciation alone on my pretend car at present, which I'm not over the moon about but hey it is what it is.

I bought 2 of these yesterday just to further enhance my own illusion that I own an F-type:
32106307-fntvm.jpg

and these:
32106307-X3gbz.jpg

The sudden price drop was insane, which is great because it makes no sense for me to spend good money on a fictional car that I pretend to own.. :unamused:

Wouldn't say I'm a groupie or fanboy of engineering in the welfare safaris of the grim north (midlands lol), I just fell in love with everything about the car (apart from the price tag and the JLR Sat-Nav system which absolutely sucks!, give me a command or i-drive system any day). Sorry for stinking up the thread by the way people lol.

Only thing I'd add to this deal is Abarth servicing is much more expensive than Fiat servicing. For some reason Fiat think that they can charge a premium on them, so just take that into account.
I've had my Abarth 500 for 8 years now and refused to pay their premiums so always gone to a specialist. Not sure if lease deals allow for non-stealer stamps in the book though?

27 Sep 17 #57
Define "better".....better for you? is not the same as better for someone else, I applaud anyone that dares to go with what they believe in and be different.
I for one am bored the droves of certain brands of cars day after day, this is different and will turn heads and inspire conversations.
bowdiddly
27 Sep 17 #58
bear in mind this is a 3 year lease,,most deals on here are 24 months.

Most new cars lose 40% + of value after 3 years.

I havent looked, but guess most cars in the £300ish per month leasing costs are in a lower new car price bracket

I've only ever gone for German cars. Not because of the brand but because I'm my opinion they look the nicest - but that's obviously subjective. I've currently got a TTS which is immensely fun to drive but a coil went at 26,000 miles and the TPMS system pops up saying malfunction every now and then... it's a very well built car that's great fun but I wouldn't say it's been as reliable as a japanese car would have been.

Didn't really need to as the reference I made to it being Italian was a pretty loose label and at no stage did I make an argument for exactly who produced the car and where. The response I gave to the previous poster with info on Abarth was purely to highlight the pretty obvious link between the cars' Italian motor heritage, styling and the Company/Brand to dismiss the absurdity of it being "curious" to use the label Italian as if the two things were totally and utterly abstract which is obviously not the case. Bottom line is the brand itself is synonymous with Italian cars & styling and their badge is on it.

My Hugo Boss Polo shirt I'm wearing right now says "made in China" on the label, that doesn't mean I consider myself to be a wearer and advocate of Chinese fashion.... The boss brand is still synonymous with and considered a luxury German fashion house and as such I would label the clothing as being "German" not Chinese, be it technically right or wrong. We can split hairs on most topics in life really given the desire.

No, better for you, clearly.

You either win or lose at leasing. The only way to win is to not be selective or on any way fussy about model or type. It's purely a numbers game.

Choosing a car to be different in the context of leasing is quite possibly the most stupid thing I've read. Plus, different in this case is a run of the mill Fiat.

Poor deal.
OrribleHarry
28 Sep 17 #73
I never said it was better for me......

So by your measure you lease cars purely by cost? So even if you don't like the vehicle you will lease anyway if it's cheap?

So I assumed you snapped the sub £100 deals on the Cactus or the C1?
The_Hoff
28 Sep 17 #74
You're deflecting, your advice to lease a car that's of poor overall value to be "different" is the worst advice I've seen on a leasing thread. And yes, I lease cars based on cost, not to lose more money than is needed by wanting to be "different".

If I needed a small city car and the Cactus or C1 deal was available when I needed to order one, it represented good value versus other cars in their class, then yes I would have ordered one. If I needed a family wagon I'd have ordered a Peugeot Traveller.

As it happened, I was in the market for a hatch, and based on that and the value proposition I went for a Seat Leon Cupra.
OrribleHarry
28 Sep 17 #75
I'm not deflecting nor did I advise.

My exact words were "I applaud anyone that dares to go with what they believe in and be different."

That's not advice, it's endorsement.

OrribleHarry

I assume by the fact a Cupra impresses you that you are 20 years old?
But to everyone else it's just another Seat in just another carpark, boring.
