Never been here, but have friends that have & they say it is a truly amazing place!
Thought this would make a fab pre- Christmas treat for the family, really help build up the excitement Plus if you fancy a night away, Travelodge have family rooms at nearby Borehamwood for just £23 on Friday 1st Dec HERE & Borehamwood Studio Way for £26 HERE from £29 for other 2 dates)

Booking up fast though, so be quick if you want to go

Once doors have closed to the public on Thursday 14th December and Friday 1st and 15th December, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter will welcome Groupon members for an exclusive event. Available for entry from 3.30 pm, guests will be granted after-hours access to the Studio Tour, which showcases authentic sets, props and costumes from the Harry Potter film series.

Guests can walk the flagstones of the iconic Hogwarts Great Hall in all its glory before viewing many of the famous sets, including the Ministry of Magic, Dumbledore’s office, and the Gryffindor common room. Visitors will also get an exclusive look at the new permanent expansion – The Forbidden Forest which opened on 31 March.

The Forbidden Forest may be strictly off-limits to Hogwarts students, but Groupon guests are invited to follow the footsteps of Harry, Ron and Hermione deep into the forest, which is home to an abundance of creatures.

Adventurers will be welcomed through the Hogwarts Gates by the beloved half-giant Hagrid deep into the forest which is filled with 19 trees each with a diameter of over 12 feet.

Visitors will walk beneath the giant entwined roots and will encounter a full size model of Buckbeak, which is new to the tour, and have the opportunity to bow to the majestic creature. As Groupon guests venture deeper into the depths of the forest, they will come face-to-face with Aragog, the Acromantula. Emerging from his dark lair, the enormous spider will appear before guests along with spiderlings from his family.

While exploring the attractions, attendees will also be able to enjoy experiences that have been specifically added for Groupon members like the special effect demonstration courtesy of Oscar®-winning Special Effects Supervisor John Richardson, from the Harry Potter film series. They’ll get the chance to learn wand moves and can ‘fly’ a broomstick like a member of the cast in the Studio Tour’s green screen experience.

During a short break in the attraction’s Backlot Cafe, guests will be able to enjoy a selected hot meal; a glass of wine, beer, hot or soft drink; and a Butterbeer™ served in a souvenir cup to take home. They’ll also get the chance to meet the Death Eaters as they patrol the Hogwarts Gates. All guests will receive a complimentary Forbidden Forest edition of the souvenir guidebook on arrival and the tour will stay open until midnight on these special nights. On-site parking is available, as is a return shuttle bus from Watford Junction station if required.

Validity: Valid for date and time specified on Groupon only.
Purchase: Limit 10 per person. May buy 10 additional as gifts.

I wonder how this is compared to normal entry, I hope everything isn't switched off and it be like walking in an abandoned studio?

I wasn't majorly impressed when I went at the end of 2014. They didn't have the Forbidden Forrest then. I absolutely love Harry Potter but I just wasn't feeling the love when I went. I wasn't impressed. BUT, saying that, I do wanna check out the forbidden forrest.
i suppose it's worth seeing at least once in your life.
Also, there was no cafe at the end of the tour then (which I didn't know about) and I missed my chance to try the butterbeer. Massive shame.

It’s a lot better now, the 2nd time I went, with Forest and Hogwarts Express was loads better, now a cafe as well

I went to this yesterday, it's great! the shop is expensive and the butter beer is creamsoda like. The experience was great.

25 Sep 17 #15
Its all massiely expensive and they are constantly trying to empty your pockets. With videos and photos of the broomstick and train "experiences" you can easily spend two or three times the entry price. Plus the food was overpriced and crap! Dont get me wrong, its a great experience, but I just think that they are being greedy

Butterbear is cream soda with a bit of butterscotch syrup and then some whipped cream ontop. It is okay, and worth trying if you like that.

25 Sep 17 #16
So is this just entry or do you get complimentary food or drink?

As per the title & OP, you get entry, a hot meal & glass of wine/beer/soda, Butterbeer in a souvenir cup & a free souvenir guide book + a special guest + exclusive events

I went to a Closed Doors event last Christmas and they allocated time slots for the tours so it was never packed out, even tho the car park was full. It was 100% worth it and we'll go again this year.
Be warned. There are 2 expensive elements that you can get sucked into: There are more than a few staged photo areas where you have an opportunity to dress up and ride a broom or pose with a group of wizards. These were quite a few ££s so as a group we decided on the Hogwarts Express picture and split the cost (you get an electronic copy to share on social media or get copies printed).

This is easily a full day's outing, enough content to spend two days there for a Harry Potter fan, yet alone one day.

25 Sep 17 #23
How long does the tour usually take?
SimyJo to snoozeyouloose
25 Sep 17 #25
Not sure what the closed door thing is, but on a standard day It's not escorted. You are free to browse and see the different sections and displays at your leisure. Check with the website though which days you go on, because sometimes they do special events; for example when we went it was 'meet the animals from (starring in) Harry Potter' and that one did have key times as an event.

Went to the Studio Tour a couple of weeks ago, for the second time. Loved it again, but the Forbidden Forest was a massive disappointment - like a cheap ghost train ride at a second rate funfair. The rest of it is as good as ever, and the Butterbeer is lovely (but £4 for what is a small glass of pop is just taking the pee).

Bought 4 tickets on two accounts, used NEW15 got £7.35 off of each making it about £45 a ticket. If you really wanted you could make 1 account per ticket and it would be £41.65 per ticket!

I think this is classed as a "local deal" but I would not consider myself anywhere near local to leavesdon

Good deal, it's normall £37 for an adult anyway, or £118 for 2 adults 2 children - and so adding the souvenir guide (normally a tenner) and food makes it the cheaper way unless you only want to walk round.

Having been 3 times, my preference is to look for times and dates that are less busy. Otherwise here's a long queue round the entrance lobby before you get to sit in the auditorium and listen to the rules before they...... no spoilers.

Weve done this through groupon before. Its a little misleading.

The place is packed to the rafters with groupon-ers so technically its after hours but dont expect it to be any quieter.
The"hot meal" was a hot dog in a bun, three chicken nuggets or a small portion of maccoroni cheese. Eat before you go!
Im also sure we paid less than that which im glad for!

I went on the harry potter studio tour this week

I WAS MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED

Why ?...
First and foremost, it is akin to the extras on a DVD/bluray, i.e. the making of harry potter, rather than experiencing the harry potter world first hand
spent 3 hours wandering through the different harry poitter themed halls looking at how they did the makeup, the costumes etc
there were a few TVs setup to give narrative of the "making of"
the costumes from the movies were used as props, but with faceless mannequins, so when walking past the set for dumbledore's office, the costume was present, but no kind and friendly richard harris waxwork

some of the highlights...
great hall...nice, but a bit rushed as pressure from the next group behind
the next area were the random film sets...gryffindore common room; bedroom; dumbledore's office, hagrid's hut; potions class etc....they didn't flow and were just the film sets reconstructed in a warehouse
unicorn blood demo was interesting, mirror + glycerine; troll snot demo appealed to kids
a chance to make your own flying broomstick footage looked good ...but at huge cost... but I already have a mortgage so no thanks
the hogwarts express and platform 9 3/4...they were OK, but not a patch on the universal version...people just milled around taking photos and walked through the carriage...you also had a photo op to push a trolley through the wall
the backlot cafe was a huge rip off, butterbeer is nothing more than cream soda with a cream frothy head...£4 for about 330ml (can sized)...at £7 you got a plastic mug to take home
privet drive...just a walk through in only the hallway downstairs...knight bus...just look from the outside
the rest of the tour was unmemorable as it was about the props and makeup, however, the finale...
huge model of hogwarts...which you can see on youtube anyway...the model was very detailed and very large, mood music in the background gave some atmosphere, but the music wasn't from the movies

I don't think I will go back any time soon, I would rather go to orlanda and the universal studios version of the HP experience
tubbyasstoo
6 Oct 17 #50
oh yeah
there was diagon alley...cobbled streets with about half a dozen shop fronts, people filing past...this is a very poor version of the orlando universal studio version...compare them on youtube and you can get a sense of my disappointment...worlds apart
the forbidden forest was nicely done with buckbeak and aragog...but not so much a forest, but a clump of trees
ford anglia was in the backlot

I saw this when first posted last week and was all excited to take kids for first time, but it's no good if you don't live within easy travel time and have kids in school! I guess that's why it's a special deal. Ho-hum.
