Are these any good?
This looks like too much for £15 so just wondering what the catch is before I buy one.

720p l would pass. lm using sricam 1080p it makes a lot of difference to the clarity of the images. It was double this price but you pay for what you get.

Agreed, I would go for a 1080p. I've had the sricam sp019 for some time now, amazing quality for the price. Indeed twice more expensive, it just depends what you are looking for. Heat added anyway for the price!

I have purchased the Guudgo Snowman from Banggood following this post: hotukdeals.com/dea…377. Just received it on Monday and working very well. Manual and app are both in English and it's 1080p. Code is still working which makes it currently £15.06, lower than the price when the deal was posted.

Somebody says in the other thread it "seems to be tied to amazon cloud subscription" - is this true? Also, can one view what it's seeing in real time on a PC using free software?

It comes with a 15 days free trail of the Amazon cloud but you don't need to continue afterwards. You could record on the Micro SD card but obviously any burglar would remove your card. However you can set the cam to notify you when it detects movement and/or sound and I suppose pictures will be sent to your email but I haven't tested that yet.

Oh and yes you can view the live camera in real time on the app and presumably on PC too but I haven't tried

On that thread it mentions you have to have an Amazon cloud subscription though.

I also received mine a couple of days ago. My view of my experience is not as positive as yours.
It seems these things are generally pretty ok (for the price) in terms of hardware, but can be beset with software issues, which one should satisfy oneself that they are up for the job.
Cheers!

Thanks televisionhead, can one view what it's seeing in real time on a PC over the wi-fi using free software? I'm not too fussed about its other capabilities (or lack of). Edit: sorry, just read your reply.

It should be on PC I think I've read that in the instruction but definitely on the Guudgo app.

Ok thanks again, I just read it's an "IP wi-fi" cam, so should be fine in this regard.

Can this work standalone, doing motion detection and recording detected clips onto SDcard?

There is some free software (also pay version with more features) out there that may possibly be worth trying for those wanting live views on multiple cameras. I tried the free version and it does the job for me.
apparently is Onvif compatible, so should work with third party apps and nvrs.
Might still be better of with a fixed IP camera in the corner of your room, fitted with a wide angle lens.

I got the 1080p version a few months ago (although it doesnt really work in 1080 mode, but works great at 720p). Got 2 of them and they've been great. Cant ask any more for the money. Very good wi-fi range, My router is on 3rd floor at front of house , and camera on bottom floor at back of house. The XMEye app is pretty straight forward. Live streaming is the best feature, as playing back recorded footage remotely is not straight forward, and a bit hit and miss. You can always pull the micro SD card though to copy footage to a computer.
The set up instructions are a joke, but persevere and you will sus it out, just dont bother trying to use or set it up using a PC/Mac. Stick the iOS/Android apps and the Qcode on the underside of the camera. The basics are that you set an account up using the app, and then assign cameras to the account using the Qcode, which attaches it to your network. - they only support 2.4Ghz so make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network when you set it up.
Only issue I haven't been able to sort out is the clock. Its stuck on Chinese time. You can change it to GMT but it just reverts back to Chinese time within a few minutes. Picture quality is good, and the pan and tilt feature is impressive. Also note that these are indoor only, and you can't point them out of windows at night as all you get is a reflection of the IR lights. Daylight is fine as the IR lights automatically cut off.

Ahhhh no good to me then, needed one for pointing out the window to catch our local scum/chav milk thieves.

Stick an IR floodlight up outside and mask off the camera LEDs...might work...would cut out the IR reflection issue...might need to be careful of IR wavelength of floodlights to make sure they are compatible. Thinking about this myself. Anyone tried this?

Don't forget any items purchased directly from China won't have undergone any of the UK or EU safety testing and electrical testing.

I bin the mains adapter if it's either non-UK or comes with a product at this price-point (and is likely shoddy).

Good price, but I already have several IP cams with a single antenna. This one looks like it is going to say to you, "take me to your leader "! Or if at home " take me to your larder " LOL.

Bookmarking for later discussion. Any use in addition to a baby monitor? Have got a CAT6 socket in the room if there's something better quality without WIFI for similar money?

Ordered two of these hoping the mi home app will be better ? I know they don't move but stick them in the corner of the room. Preorder so out on the 18th September. Hopefully replacing the region locked older version
Thoughts ?
£26 after a voucher I had for 2 seemed good value for money

Have you seen the recent reviews of mi home at Google Play? I think it used to be good, would certainly like to hear your experience, cos it seems one can get the Xio Fang 1080p for peanuts.

It is geo locked, but that does not mean it can't be used in UK/EU. See e.g.
It is probably the best supported cam by "enthusiasts". :nerd:

Do you know for sure this can be used in the UK? Have you tested this? This is what put me off buying this a few weeks back. Any good deals on for the Fang?

I haven't got one so I haven't tested the various circumvention tricks, but google and you will find lots of people have. I am tempted but currently put off by the recent reviews of Mi home, which gets regularly updated, sometimes becoming worse, a phenomenon not specific to Xiaomi/Chinese software of course...

I think Tinycam is popular, but not sure if that supports grid/ multi view or not.
