Picked mine up yesterday. Popped the SIM card into my tablet and registered the SIM card via the website that it redirects you to when you try browse any website. For some reason the SIM card's phone number failed to register on the website and I had to call EE customer serivce on 0800 956 6000 for them to associate the number with my new account.
Strange fact, the section of the My EE website that shows which plan you are on/how many MB you have left, add-on.ee.co.uk/status, only works while the device in question is connected to the Internet via the EE SIM card, it does not work when using my home broadband.

Thinking of getting a GPS tracker for my bike. So a free/cheap data SIM would be useful as they all seem to require one. Anyone know if 200MB a month would be enough for a tracker or would I need 500MB?

If you do go for this I recommend you try to activate in near the store. I got two a while ago and one for correct 500mb a month for 12 months. The other was a flat 200mb for one month. EE won't, or can't help and you will have to go back to argos for sort it. I don't know how that will be as I just skipped the bad one.
You can't tell from the packets as they were both labelled up correctly. You will only find out if you got a duff one when you attempt activation

Thanks for that, am looking to put this with a 321 sim in a Chinese phone, tbh though it's no big deal if it doesn't work this is only marginally better than a data reward sim and like you I would take the hit and put one of those in

Porting your mobile number from Three to Three
Note: It might not be possible to transfer your mobile phone number between the same network provider using a PAC code.
Leaving Three How to switch from Three & take your mobile number to Three
Call Three on 333 from a 3-Mobile handset or 0333 338 1001 from any other phone or landline, and ask for your "Port Authorisation Code" or PAC number.
Three will provide your Port Authorisation Code (PAC number) either over the telephone, by SMS text message or via email.
A PAC code is valid for 30 days. If you don't use it within thirty days it will expire and you will need to request a new one.
Your Three account will remain active until your number has been ported over to the new network. After the transfer is complete, your Three account will be automatically closed.
Three must issue you with a PAC number within 2 working days of your request, or a reason for why it cannot be issued, in accordance with Ofcom's "General Conditions of Entitlement". ofcom.org.uk
Once you have received your Port Authorization Code from Three, look for the best Three offer that is suited to you. Many of the best mobile phone deals are available exclusively online, directly from the network providers listed here.
Finally, provide your PAC code to your new Three mobile network operator who will then be able to port your existing phone number from Three. They will tell you what day the transfer is due to take place (usually within 48 hours).
Important: Do NOT cancel your contract before switching, otherwise you might not be able to port over your number. Once you provide your new network provider with your PAC code, your old account will automatically be cancelled when the number is migrated over.
Note: Credit on a PAYG (Pay-As-You-Go / Pre-Pay) account cannot be transferred and any remaining credit will be lost after the switch over.

Three's customer service told me that the "internet with legs" or data reward sim is a mobile data SIM and hence "not intended" for use in a phone. In general, three seem unable to switch your plan from a "data SIM plan" to "phone SIM plan".
I was on a mobile broadband plan (12GB/year) and wanted to switch that to a 123 sim, but they couldn't do it. They also moaned a bit when I requested a PAC code for the mobile broadband SIM. You'd probably get the same reaction when you eventually tried to port your number from the data reward SIM back to some other plan.
That said it all worked out fine for me and I kept my number (now with a different provider).
My plan is to use the 200MB/month in a dual sim phone.

That is why I am getting a 2 sim China phone, I wouldn't risk putting my 200 gbp gold number on a data reward sim, they are right there's no legal requirement to allow ports,even if they do now they may get greedy and change the policy to force people to stick with them. I don't have any confidence in companies to not try to rip you off anymore.
No good for me. ..self regulate, who does that? :smile:

What is the tenancy on these sims. I don't trust argos, they may give me the 90 day one instead of the year one. Can someone post a picture of were it says 1 year on the sim

How long do you have to activate? Thinking of buying a couple and using in and old iPhone for for a sat nav in the car on the rare occasions I need one... it works ok with offline maps and no data but would be more useful with a bit of data to do real time maps

I have a couple of the free 200mb Three sims for use with an old phone for Waze, very rarely have I ended up getting texts telling me I was about to run out of data. Only problem is I can't remember when the counter resets each month.

Once you put the sim in your device, switch the data on and fire up the three app and it should automatically recognise the sim number.

Thanks, just after posting this I downloaded the app, all seems fine but it does not (or I haven't found it yet) the actual remaining allowance. It could be that it needs a decent signal to retrieve it and I am in a poor signal area and it is currently connected via WiFi.

You need to connect via data not wifi for the app/go to 3.home/?in…ash - will take you to my3 website and you should be logged in. The Three app can be a bit buggy - that's what Three staff tell me, I've had to delete and reinstall so a price plan change updates on the app lol technology eh!

I have two phones with these free data Three sims in them, the first one in a Sony Experia is not showing any data remaining (no figure displayed) the other, in an HTC One, is showling 58mb so at least I know what to expect when I get the Sony to connect. Thanks for the help.

I believe so, yes. I've had one on the same deal in my ipad since last November, and it worked fine in Spain earlier this month (until the monthly 500MB ran out). If it runs out, you can buy a 1GB add on for 7 quid.

Looks like it's 6GB loaded at the start which means your not capped at 500MB per month.
Technically you could blow your lot in the first month.
You would have to self regulate your usage to make this last the entire year.

If it's the same as the one I've had before, it is 500MB per month rather than 6GB up front. I paid £24.99 last time though. Collecting mine from the local branch Monday.
It looks like these are old stock as EE's current offer is 2GB a month for 6 months for £24.99, which is vastly less useful to me, so get them while you can.
(Argos limit it to max 1 purchase, annoyingly).
