What's the milk frother like to use?

Its good but by the time the milk has started to froth the milk way above the optimum temperature according to my barista thermometer!

Hold the frother end towards the surface of the milk that lets air in and froths it without heating it much. Then once its frothed put the nozzle towards the bottom of the mug to heat the milk.

Try lowering the cup so that the wand is at the top it will froth the milk quicker

Coffee noob here, what does frothing the milk add to the drink instead of just say pouring? For reference I currently just pour milk in the cup first and heat in the microwave

I used to microwave it before but that just boils and ruins the milk, frothing helps to keep its flavour and makes the drink smooth

It's really just if you like cappuccino's to be honest. The comment about microwaves boiling the milk is rubbish, if it's boiling you are microwaving it too long. For me the frothy milk gives it a creamier texture and sweetens the milk very slightly making the coffee taste smoother, but it's all down to persaonl taste.

From experience De'Longhi machines are unreliable, they unnecessarily need serviced and after sales aren't great. I bought a Melitta after my last De'Longhi experience. Much better quality, better performance, their brewing units are taken out and clean, not service required.

Never had mine serviced once. I give it a thorough clean every few months (10 min job) and descale when asked when under warranty as it keeps a check but I know wait a few months after because it's overly cautious IMO.

The brewing units need lubricated, well mine did and they charged £75 to do it. There isn't much else involved in their service process other than eating. I'm sure at the time a new unit cost less than they charged to service it.

I've had De'Longhi esam 4200 for nearly 6 years now, has one issue that was sorted straight away by their 2 year return paid warranty. Excellent machine, and still making 6 cups per day min now with it. Amazon want £400! for this john lewis deal

If you get one of these make sure you use freshly roasted coffee! The difference is astonishing.
