Never owned one before... Just how much Faster will the Watch 3 be in comparison? They say 70% But that's the only reason why I'm holding of... I'm planning on getting the X for this on November.... In all honestly I'll never usually be without my iPhone when using the Watch...

I'm getting the x, been to look at s8 and decided no thanks.
For the watch I would definitely get the cellular it's the downfall of the watch 1 and 2 having to have your phone with you. Suppose it depends if you exercise and don't want your phone with you . It's why I bought tomtom runner 3 as you don't need a phone with it. But iwatch 3 cellular now does music tracking and you don't need the phone.

I would want to try that facial recognition first before deciding the to buy the phone, if the senior vice president cant get it to work first time then it seems like it might be a bit annoying.

Even though I find it hilarious when things fail for apple (I own iPhone 7 and s1 watch). The face recognition failure was just the iPhone being locked, so you need to put your Touch ID in. Like when you restart your iPhone, so not really a failure
Nutkin to worf201

Apple don't make mistakes :P Also it wasn't a restart as the Apple text for restart is different. it was reported as multiple failed attempts from the backstage crew trying to unlock it to make sure the screen cap worked.
Im OK with this to an extent but It is the speed and angle of it im worried for, i don't want to have to get my phone out and hold it in a certain way to get it to unlock. Especially if it is not instantaneous. I don't see why they couldn't just stick a fingerprint scanner on the rear.

If you always have your phone with you, then you're only really paying for the faster processor, which is not worth the extra ~£160 in my opinion. (I suspect OS upgrades have much more impact on the responsiveness than the processor speed, and the series 2 will still be getting the Watch OS 4 upgrade).
BTW, it has built-in GPS/2GB music storage, so you can take it for a run without your phone and still track data/listen to music.

I am not sure about that - because having owned iPhones for the past few years - they do seem to get progressively slower as newer OS is installed on them - wonder if there is an element of obsolescence built into the hardware with respect to the OS and its processor hungry nature?

True - I never upgrade my OS on my phones for this exact reason.

Can you use the cardiogram stroke detection and gps tracking without an iPhone. That's all I want it for
BrianM to pengwyn
20 Sep 17#24
Neither of these rely on an iPhone. The watch DOES use the iPhone GPS in preference to its own to save power but the Series 2 (as this is!) can, when out of range, switch to using its own inbuilt GPS. Cardiogram needs - I think - one to download the free app (of the same name) from the Apple App Store.

I made a mistake with getting an s4 from cex. I used my s4 active to take photos of bands but it started taking black photos. The iphone 5c has a decent camera. Im slowly moving up the iphone series' however i might jump to an se because they are competitively priced as well im sure you saw the o2 refresh deal at just over a

It will work it's apple. Had every iPhone since the iPhone 4 skipping the s's. If it don't work give them it back.
S8 got stuck in the shop when I was playing about with it, froze up . Told myself no thanks can't live with that so sticking with Apple even thought it's a fing £1000. Selling iPhone 7 for around £350 so £650 not as bad hit

Seems like a great price for 2nd Gen one.
Personally the cellular is a huge thing for me - I hate running with my phone - so I have one on preorder!.. but for anyone who knows they will always have their phone on them - it might be time to dive in..

applewatch with cellular, only works with EE. They are charging around £600 for 2 years (£25 times 24 months) Direct purchase from apple around £400, so around £8.33 per month (the £200 difference) for the connection. On top of the iphone contract. Nice technology, but this is something I want, not something I need...

20 Sep 17#18
Someone has told me the cost of the data if you buy the device outright is £5 per month - so a little bit cheaper for anyone on EE who is considering it..
BrianM to justingalore
20 Sep 17#21
This is true BUT you need to have an EE PAYM contract (possibly of some minimum - this is not yet clear) - not PAYG
It would be useful to me in almost no situations as the iPhone is rarely not with me. Other operators should offer watch service when the EE exclusivity period ends. It would need to be "no extra cost" to be worth it to me!

Confused between this and Series 3 - is the latter really worth paying an additional 100 bucks? (not so keen on the cellular as I can't think of why I would ever be out without my iPhone anyways) - thanks for your help.

Series 3 is also available without cellular. It's slightly faster and has a barometer for more accurate height. Neither of these minor changes would be worth paying extra for to me....the series 2 (as I have) does everything I want fast enough

Not really sure why people are all excited about having a cellular Apple Watch to run with out your iPhone. You’ve been able to do that since the original Apple Watch. After few runs with the phone it learns your pace. I’ve found it pretty damn accurate too. Following to Series 2 and Series 3 (minus cellular) they both have GPS and are even more accurate with phoneless running. Coupled with the phone automatically offloading playlists to the watch for you to listen to whilst running... I still fail to see the use case for most people needing cellular.

Apple Watch 3 Reviews have started to flow in. Mostly unimpressive battery life being the issue and and issue connecting to cellular as opposed to WiFi instead. Glad I waited as I may Just got for the Watch 2 on the basis that I will always have My iPhone with me!

But then there is also the Watch 3 without cellular which is a lower price than the original series 2 RRP (£329 for watch 3, £369 was the watch 2 RRP price although obviously this Nike deal is fantastic compared to that). So I'm thinking of getting the watch 3 without cellular as its not a bad price, and like you I always have my iphone with me, watch 3 has faster processor and will be compatible with the same wireless charging acessories (Apple AirPower) as the latest iPhones
