I have enough trouble with buffering and annoying sound problems let alone streaming 4 K. I tried Rakuten and it was perfect. Why can't Amazon match them?

There won't be any links as its only available via the Amazon Video app on the eligible devices.

Really? I was sure you could buy them from the main site like you can rent movies and buy kindle book. I know you need the app to watch. Really stupid system if that is the case as it rules out anyone who doesn't have access to their device at the time or wants to build a collection in advance of getting a compatible tv...

Yep sadly that is the case... I asked Amazon UK earlier, as my friend sent me a message about the sale. That was why I posted the guide in the post on how to access it, as it is the only way to buy and stream.

If you do a advanced search in Google you can find them.. Try this
"buy movie uhd" "[Ultra HD]" "Watch online now with Amazon Instant Video" site:Amazon.co.uk
I just bought one it then plays on fire stick ok in HD. The search was on my phone and it then opened the amazon app, with the link to buy...

I've had a 4K Android TV for over a year now. Still no 4K content on the Google Play Store. Google are amazing in certain areas and appalling in others. I won't buy from Amazon since they don't support Casting and I have four other TV's in the house that can be casted to.
simonwakefield1 to Swarfega
26 Sep 17#23
Blame Google for that. For all there don’t be evil mantra they can be real dicks. To add casting to a device requires you to include Play Services on the device (outside of iOS who they decided to treat Apple as a special case) which then means including every single part of play services including all the apps which on many devices just ends up being bloatware (who needs chrome and google docs on a streaming box?) so if you are trying to make a quick and lean device you are screwed, it’s a major problem with Android phones which sees them run out of both space and becoming sluggish quicker than iOS because there are so many apps and protocols that exist for wide compatibility but which aren’t much use on the phone. There is also the payment problem where any inapp payment would have to go via Google meaning 30% of any transaction goes to Google, on digital items that wipes out Amazons profit margin
But then it gets worse, they will only licence play service you have to be running core android not a custom fork, any customisation has to be done via skinning which in itself is an inefficient system that cause slow down and is the main cause of most android devices issues. So Amazon couldn’t even licence it even if they were willing to take those hits because they use a fork
Now obviously they could add it to iOS Amazon apps (but not Android) but that causes confusion for their own devices and as Amazon really market their devices to the people who don’t know much about tech but may take a punt on it because they trust Amazon they just can’t afford that confusion.
Google need to get over themselves, break casting out of play services so the likes of Amazon can use it on their devices and maybe make it viable for casting to start being added to apps on other mobile platforms and windows/macOS apps without hacks
Swarfega to simonwakefield1

You're talking about something completely different. My point is I won't buy from Amazon or iTunes because both require you to invest in their ecosystem to use their services. I can't play back content from iTunes on my cast enabled devices or any other devices other than from the bloated iTunes on my PC from Apple. For Amazon I would need to replace my Chromecasts with Fire Sticks or like Apple watch it from a browser. At least with the Play Store purchases I can play movies on my PC, iOS and Android devices. Amazon Prime Video recently moved to the Play Store so you never no Chromecast support might be added one day.
simonwakefield1 to Swarfega
27 Sep 17#53
I'm not. My point was Amazon actually wanted to add cast but as Google basically blocked them from adding them to their Fire devices they had to take the choice not to add it for clarity, Amazon appeals to a less techy user base so complicating the situation where what devices you can and can’t cast from wouldn’t be good.
Swarfega to simonwakefield1
27 Sep 17#55
I'm not talking about their Fire devices. Amazon Prime Video is now available on the Google Play Store. There's nothing stopping them from adding casting abilities other than the desire to do so.

It is a good deal and about time but it is actually for a small selection of amazon customers. For this deal it is not just the price of the TV but also - Amazon Prime subscriptions - Having a correct UHD/4k television (like HD on SD screens you will notice no real improvement) +receiving equipment - Having a proper high speed fibre broadband connection, over 50 meg
After all of this the quality of the UHD picture is fractionally better than HD, it is a good deal for those that have the above but it is not worth buying a new television to get the deal

I've got all the above and have only really watched YouTube videos in proper 4k so far. It's a pity that the only film on the list that really appeals is the original Ghostbusters and I'm not sure that benefits from a 4k remaster. The TV upscales standard Blu-ray nicely though :stuck_out_tongue:

I watched Ghostbusters in 4K from the 1-3 4K Boxset, one of the first 4K films I got and while I'll always have a soft spot for the first film, I didn't really feel much benefit from 4K and the extra clarity just seemed to expose excessive film grain in some/many scenes. Though there will always be exceptions IME modern films seem to benefit more from 4K.....

You have forgot the 'rearranging your room for the perfect viewing distance'. Most people simply don’t have a 4K TV that’s big enough for them to notice the difference from where they sit (and if they say the can it’s either in their head or they are watching HDR content and that’s what they notice, but you can get 1080p HDR and they wouldn’t be able to tell of its 4k or 1080p.)
ST3123

I have the Fire TV box so thought these would show up on that, but I couldn't find them (not a fan of the boxs interface tbh) though it is possible I'm not looking in the right place as I generally just use it to watch Netflix/Youtube and actually watch surprisingly little Amazon stuff on it.
I also only have it on a 1080P set atm as I already have plenty of other sources connected to my 4K set, but I wouldn't have thought that would matter since the box itself is still 4K capable?
Does anyone with the Fire TV box know if this offer displays from the home screen? or do you have to go into a specific application?
These prices are actually pretty good for 4K films to own (assuming they aren't just rentals?) just wish Amazon would make it easier to actually buy them, it's like they don't want my money.....

I bought Lawrence of Arabia with this deal for a £1 using an Amazon Prime credit here.
The film looks absolutely stunning on our new Hisense 49" 4K HDR TV (£454 from Hughes). If you can, connect your UHD TV with an Ethernet cable or 5Ghz Wi-Fi. I have PlusNet Broadband 55/18 and the quality is perfect.

That's a bit of false advertising from Amazon them. The UHD industry standard is 4K, HDR-10 and a wide colour gamut. If it doesn't have HDR its just 4K.

absolutely. My first thought was that it might be to protect less tech savvy customers without the right equipment buying movies they can't watch and them tying up all Amazon's CS for refunds, but since they seem to just downgrade to HD on non-compatible devices, I really don't know what Amazon's problem is...

Proper 4K with a decent frame rate is unworkable over the internet with all but the best of connections. I've got trouble streaming proper full 4K internally over WiFi and even on a wired connection, have had to resort to a really fast drive plugged straight into the TV to avoid any sorts of buffering issues. To put some perspective on it you're looking at as much as 50gb for a decent frame rate full 4K film, and you're watching it in 90 mins (which is 500Mb a minute, or nearly 10Mb per second).
My experience of Amazon Prime 4K is rubbish. Terrible frame rates used to compensate for the fact that there is so much data in each frame. Even then despite having the top Sky Fibre unlimited I've been getting buffering on everything 4K, and when it's not buffering it's no better than 1080p as far as I can see.
Plus most of these titles are upscaled, so not proper 4K anyway.
Total waste of time, this is not what it is supposed to be (in my book).

I'd put that down to Sky. I switched from Sky to Vodafone because even for a fibre connection I'd have delays on Netflix, buffering on YouTube, etc and that was on 720p devices.
