I just loaded up the Amazon Music App and noticed that Alexa is showing as a menu item down the bottom, I just tried it asking her the weather and she replied just the same as the Echo device so looks to be fully featured.

Very handy for my hue lighting and tp link wall switches thank you
Seems pretty good. One has to wonder why this isn't available in the actual Alexa App though...

Hmm, I just tried to turn on my heating from my parents' house & it wouldn't work - anyone else tried to use the home automation functions away from their home network?

I have Amazon Music on my Android Phone (LG G2). Other than via a bluetooth connection, is there a way to use Alexa (via the Amazon Music app on my phone) to play music on my Echo and Dot devices?
I know that I can ask Alexa on the Echo and Dot themselves to play Amazon Music. I am just wondering if I can do this via Alexa on my phone.
Hope that makes sense.

Yes and no.
If you use the Alexa app rather than Amazon Music you can play directly to Echo without the Bluetooth.
The downside is if you want to play a specific song you seem to have to have put it in ‘My Music’ or a playlist first.

Yes, thanks. I was aware that you could play via the Alexa app. But, as you say, there are limitations on the ability to play songs which make it less useful that the fully fledged Amazon Music app. I would have thought that it would make sense for Amazon to make the same functionality available in both apps, especially since both now have Alexa.

Agree... especially as Spotify supports just that. Crazy that Amazon’s own music app doesn’t work as well with Echos as Spotify does!

Yes, I've just done this - you can ask the Alexa on the phone to play music on the various echo devices around the house

Yep, I often find myself wanting to ask: "Alexa, please ask Google to answer the question you were unable to".

It's entirely possible to set Alexa up to do this, apparently.
Interesting. Now I have google assistant on my S7 i'm starting to prefer Google to Alexa.. really like the voice shortcuts feature, but the "Ok Google" wake up puts be off switching from the Echo dot. Might take the plunge when the new mini version comes out.

Do you need to update your apps? Have a look in the app store to see if there are updates available (released yesterday)

You need the latest version of the App.
Alexa appears as a button next to My Music (does on the iPad)

If you can't see the Alexa button (bottom right hand corner), it probably means you don't have the latest version of the App. I updated to latest version today and there it was!
good spot op, just updated app and alexa has appeared as if by magic, ooooo nice. ps i am easily pleased heat added

Do you have to be a prime member or free customer to get Amazon music

you can get a lot of music as a free customer but, like most services, you have to pay to get there premium service. free music is ok for most though. hope that helps

Don't really know much about Alexa but if you have Amazon Prime/Amazon Music and a Sonos speaker set up could you use use this app and ask it to play music stored in your library?

Whereabouts? I have it installed (to set up my Echo) and Alexa's not available in there in the same way that it is in the Amazon music app.

Can anyone get this to work (and/ or Google Now) with the screen off or through a bluetooth headset with the screen off?
On the contrary, voice technology is really useful for people who struggle using phones and devices with their hands. I have an app in mind where communication with a device at height would be a danger to the user and a risk to dropping the phone hence my question. I can get voice controlling to work, just not with my phone when the screen is off hence my question.

There is a setting in Google Assistant (the replacement to Google Now) to enable always on voice detection, hands free mode with the device locked and to also allow voice control through bluetooth

I've came back to this issue after trying a couple of weeks ago.
I can get OK Google to work on the lock screen but not with the screen completely off. I think this is a problem with Google and there may be a fix at some stage but it sort of defeats the purpose of having Alexa on this app. I'm using a Ulefone Power 2 (Android 7.0 but I couldn't enable it on my previous phone)
If anyone can control their phone or use this app while the phone is off then I'd like to know what phone are you using.

You can install the companion Alexa app to get extra visual results to your spoken requests. You need both for some reason.

Voice control only becoming popular as app control through a locked phone really isn't that practical. Light switches and standard remote controls still way better for a quick result.
e.g.
1) Find phone, turn on phone, unlock phone, open app, find function press button to turn on lights. 2) "Alexa, turn on lights in the kitchen" 3) Click
