I'd like this offer. I'm with Three and currently coming to the end of my 12 month contract - 4GB, unlimited minutes and texts for £9 a month. Did they offer you this deal, or did you have to haggle with them? Thank you.

theres an offer on TCB for
4GB Essential SIM plan - £9 per month - 12 Months
All-you-can-eat Minutes and All-you-can-eat Texts
£40 cashback
works out to £5.66/mth
They did have the same data, mins and txts on an Advanced plan that was £11/mth with £50 cashback which works out as £6.83/mth, but that ended yesterday.

I'm not too sure if I can get this deal, as I am already on one of their £9 a month SIM only plans (for a year) which ends in October. Would I be able to get this offer and then activate it from October onwards?

18 Sep 17#29
Yes course you will mine was finshing in october as well . I called them i got offered the deal n accepted
potnoodle to Sophiasky
18 Sep 17#37
You could get it now through TCB and when your old sim runs out next month, just port it out to another network and port it back onto this new contract.....it just means u pay an extra month at start to cover now and your old sim
Sophiasky to potnoodle
18 Sep 17#38
I've just had a look at my direct debit and the start date was 23/9/16 and my last payment made was on 14/9/17, so my year is/nearly up. Do they continue with the direct debit after a year, or do they or I have to cancel it? Just wondering, if I could now go through TCB to get the deal. I'd like to keep my current mobile number, so would that be changed after I take this offer up? Thank you.
potnoodle to Sophiasky
19 Sep 17#62
It will effectively be a new account (so new direct debit) as u would need to close your current Three account and port out ur old number to another sim network then when u get ur new number from Three, you can then port back ur old number into that new Three sim. Unless you call up Three and see if they can beat that price without going through TCB.

I got 600 min with 12GB £11  £5 18GB add on gives me 30GB for £16 when extra data needed  worth asking for less minutes if you don't need unlimited - 600m plans are old discontinued plans (2 available currently - 1GB Essential £9 12m & £13 1m) but still available from customer services

Where I live the Three signal is better than EE and you can always use their Three in Touch app for talking through wifi. I got a Three paygo sim and used Opensignal App to check it and compared Three and EE. I was on Vodafone but Three are superior for me.

Depends where you live so please do not complain about network coverage like most people do it all trial and error

It's actually pretty good. I was on EE before who trumpeted their "signal is best" etc. It's been as good if not better than EE. YMMV in your area though...

Unfortunately Three uses VPN for all their clients abroad so limits you to really slow speeds and high pings almost a second. If you do a speed test you will see it does it for UK servers. One of the reasons I switched away from it to a EE network.
finnmaccool to hmsq82

Thanks. Didn't know that. I couldn't even use Google maps in France as the signal and speed to update was awful.

Sorry you don't know what you are actually talking about! I have just travelled around France for close to 5 weeks, in my car and it has been totally fine. BTW, the 3 network defaults to Orange France in any case, which is EE!
Why blame the network when it could be your dodgy handset itself.

The family had 3 payg sims with 3, every time I rang to see what deals they had for simo they only offered what's on their website. Didn't seem bothered about retaining us as a customer. I rang back to speak to different customer service agents but they were all indifferent. We are now with BT. Good luck getting someone to match the deal.

Various comments made on coverage and usability abroad. I can only speak for USA and EU but assume similar for everywhere (depending on any specific local arrangements) having been a Three user for several years.
One BIG bonus with Three outside the EU is the Feel at Home (same charges as when in UK) for various countries other than EU including USA.
USA - slow and patchy coverage away from towns but this is the US phone network. 3G and Edge connection and often seems like 2G for data. IT DOES WORK however and is OK for keeping in touch (email and news headlines) when on holiday but useless for much else.
EU (particularly France so I ASSUME everywhere else the same) - phone usage fine but DATA speeds too slow to stream or anything. Static web sites (BBC / Facebook etc.) load reasonably but anything with films or streaming just forget it.
Also, if foreign use is important you MUST read / understand the Three rules about Feel at Home / roaming. No tethering, no VPN, no streaming because they say this is to provide a 'fair' usage to everyone. Other UK providers have made better deals with foreign operators to allow 4G roaming (and streaming and tethering) but Three will only connect on 3G / HSPA at best.
UK coverage and speeds are variable as with other networks - just depends where you are and if there is a mast nearby.
If foreign usage including streaming data is important then look elsewhere.

Just got of the phone with them confirm this is the essential plan so no hot spots and you can only use your allowance inside the EU. I still went with it because I've never done either of those things. He initially offered it for 12 but I persevered and got him down to £10, thanks again for sharing.

As another option nobody has mentioned: having (or buying) a dual-sim phone then using one sim for calls and texts and the other sim for data can work out cheaper/faster still. For instance:
1) Continuing to use "feel at home" when abroad but buying a local data-only package if you need faster data temporarily. 2) Using a PAYG data sim at home if your data usage is inconsistent or you need a much higher data package than calls/texts package.

I haven't had too many problems with the internet in this country, but when we were in Portugal, I could hardly access the internet and when I did manage to, it was so slow. My children took their phones and they are on EE. They were on the internet a lot, even sitting in the same room as myself, and they had no issues at all connecting to the internet.

I have been with them since they came to the UK, October 2003 if I recall. 3g coverage was patchy to be fair as they got the worst of the 3g spectrum {being late into the UK market} , but with 4g {been out for ages now} they got a fair share of the spectrum, so the signal is better than ee for sure now, and can be said as good as or if not better than Vodafone and O2.

just managed to get the same deal as above!! persistence pays off!! Thanks for sharing
Okay I called again today to cancel my current contract (£12pm for unltd mins/txt and 4gb data). The agent told the same crap as the last one about how I am a valuable customer and he will offer me a very good deal blah blah. Anyway he told me I could get the same package but pay £10pm. So I asked him how does that make me feel like a valuable customer if you are offering this deal to new customers as well. So he then offered me the same package but £9pm. I then told him how I have a friend (made up) on Three and she got a recent deal (the same deal as this hotukd post) and she has been with three for a much lessee time than I have. After telling him this, he gave me the same offer!!
Anyway for those struggling, I suggest you try tell them about this deal. They definitely can give you better deals. If you have no luck. Just call again hoping it will be another agent. If no success still, then try get the PAC code. Think cancellation team will offer the deal there.

As others have stated, the first person you talk to can only offer certain deals. When you're put through to the cancellation department that's when they get interesting. I mentioned I was going through top cash back and they divided the amount I said I'd receive and took it off the monthly cost.
